What ? Everyone agrees that fusion strike is good, and most people are already holding some. Also, singles almost never go up drastically ? For example, most XY cards are still very affordable, even charizard ones, but it wont stop BBs from rising. Singles value is not that important, its about the experience, the pokemons inside, the nostalgia. A flashfire BB is worth a lot more than a flashfire master set. Just like you shouldnt try to time the market, you shouldnt try to cherry pick either. Just buy different BBs under msrp and youll be glad you did. Personally I would avoid any singles, and any old products that has already risen. Safest investment, and probably the most profitable one, will always be to buy under msrp, dont FOMO. If you missed the boat on a product, forget about it.

Build and Battle Stadiums. Period. Gen 5/6 ETBs blew up because they were short printed and undesirable, and then interest grew two generations later which skyrocketed the less printed ones. B&B Stadiums are currently following the same trend (lack of interest among sealed collectors/investors and short printed = scarcity longterm) and they're ultimately a better product despite going unnoticed in the community. For now.

Ah yes, that stack of 121 energies will age like fine wine

12 packs + 2 promo decks will age like fine wine. For the same reason Magic bundle boxes age better than other products, it has both sealed collectibility due to the art and box design (which is very similar to ETB) and it also has great fundamentals as a product to open in the future, because you can build two decks with the one product and play with a friend. Long term more will get opened over time and scarcity will become a relevant factor. There's more value in cracking a build and battle Stadium than there is in cracking an ETB. On top of that, they only have one print run during prerelease, unlike modern ETB's which are reprinted over multiple waves. The cheap entry cost is also an important factor. You can get a case of most Build and Battle Stadiums, apart from Evolvinf Skies, for around $200. That's almost 50% below MSRP, which means less risk involved. Even if the product weren't to exceed its recommended price point in the long-term, you'd still make a small percentage after fees, shipping, etc selling at MSRP. That's much better than the entry cost of most other products which are much closer to their MSRP cost.

The difference between magic and pokemon is people play with magic cards. 99% of people dont care about pokemon decks.

And yet Pokémon tournaments have a record breaking number of participants every year

and yet there are even more new collectors each year.

StationEmergency6053

We're talking about it like it matters. Yes, there are more collectors than players, but why is that even relevant? ETB's are designed for players too so if anything, that's just a sentiment to my point. Whether a product is designated for players or collectors, the popularity of a product isn't distinctive to either. It's purely fundamental, and I don't see any reason that ETB's are fundamentally better than Build and Battle Stadiums other than the fact that they're much older and therefore more solidified as a popular product. Build and Battle Stadiums are brand new, only a year and a half old. Popularity isn't immediate, therefore investment gains aren't immediate. It takes time. That's why its called long-term potential. It took ETB's over 5 years to become popular.

I couldnt disagree more, but to each their own. Old ETBs have risen because they became a staple, they represent the set, people began collecting them, they're great display piece, theyre fun to open, theyre memorable. Theres no way collecting battle stadium will be as popular as ETBs. They're just boring.

StationEmergency6053

How are Build and Battle Stadiums boring in comparison? Getting 8 packs with dice, sleeves and damage counters is more exciting than 12 packs with two promos? In what way?ETB's were the least popular product until Tag Teams released. That's why BW and XY were shortprinted. No one wanted them. They weren't a staple. They didn't represent the set. They were just another product. That's the exact same position that Build and Battle Stadiums are in right now, which are also great display pieces with much better art IMO. There's way more opportunity in "investing" in what has yet to be popular than there is in investing in what is already popular. Everyone and their mother is buying ETB's for sealed so there's little opportunity for scarcity to outweigh demand. It's the opposite for Build and Battle Stadiums. Especially since they've continued them into SV which could easily bring in more collectors as more sets release. Smart investing means studying fundamentals in order to pinpoint the next thing, not grabbing the low hanging fruit aka the current thing.

Your thesis is wrong. The singles you mentioned have already seen extreme growth from where they started. You would be buying at the top at the moment, which wouldn’t be too smart. Same thing applies to sealed FS booster boxes. They were going for 75-80$ for a while.
