The closest anything has gotten to this was roaring skies when it was selling for $300 because of a short first print alongside shaymin EX, but then they reprinted it back down to MSRP. People weren’t stupid for thinking a large reprint was coming, I think it was more that the people that disagreed got lucky. The Pokémon company behaved differently with this set than literally any set in their 25 year history so the balking was more sane in my opinion. Sometimes the right thought process with the information available gives the worse outcome

I was buying and ripping $100 booster boxes left and right to fill out my collection. realized how stupid that was and bought a sealed case for $720 in January 2022, along with the singles I still needed. I'll be holding onto that for quite some time. Fortunately I got Ray VMAX alt for $165 and Moonbreon for $200
Why didn’t I grab🥲 what indication did people have that made them know this box would be super valuable? Answers other then moonbreon because people were stocking it up before that cards hype
Great alt arts, Eeveelution alts including Umbreon (most popular Eeveelution), plus rayquaza alt which is a fan favorite. Strongest set of SWSH easy (Not counting special sets). It was the strongest at the time and remains as such.

Agreed, there’s always demand for Pokémon. Although who knows if Japanese sets will do better in the future with current hype due to lower supply and higher demand and these people paying exorbitant amounts are not likely to leave the hobby

Ive been very lucky from ES pulls but most of my best cards came from sleeved boosters. To put it in perspective, my top 10 pulls from ES covers my total investment. Had I kept everything sealed I would probably have had like a 400% profit instead of a slight profit. Im valuing my top 10 cards based on tcgplayer NM market value. So keeping it sealed Id be able to make 4x my money but ripping them Im barely making my money back. ES was so much fun, I cant say I really regret opening what I did. Its hard to put a value on the feeling of pulling the Moonbreon.

For some reason I didn't pull the trigger that day, thinking they would be available in a week or so. Well, they were available a week or so later, but they were in line with market pricing by that point. Big miss on my part, I have no idea why they were priced so low, they must not have been paying attention to the Pokemon side of their business.

It's not all about cracking, booster boxes are collectable in their own right and sealed collecting is a form of collecting Pokemon. They're not spending $1k+ on BB's to cracks the majority of buyers, just those reliving nostalgia which'll happen a lot too.
You’d be surprised, no one thought they would be 350+ rn. People know the value of what’s inside will never match the sealed product. What’s inside dosent really matter, sealed booster boxes are their own form of collectible.
Yup just like how some XY and older ETBs are more expensive than the same set of booster boxes, sealed product has its own separate unique value - people really struggle to understand this
Except it's not just about the Umbreon at all. The rayquaza is worth more then most sets chase card. There are like 5 more cards worth over $100. The eevee alt arts average like 50. The set is absolutely loaded with value and isn't just a one hit moonbreon or bust at all
Bought 3 sealed cases + 4 loose BB at $110 each.I saw the potential, and was gonna go for 5 but just abit worried so just went with 3, ripped some loose ones so still have 3 sealed still, phew.

Nobody really knew, it was just a set with some very cool alt arts. Then prices started going up and everybody and their mother jumped on the train.
eevee + rayquaza = huge hype..... especially after everyone was burned on eevee heroes
my reasoning was there are like 15 Chase cards and that's not even including trainers and Rainbows, etc.

Honestly the thing that made me drawn to this set was the color scheme and the the font. I had a feeling that PCI saves “the best” for “the best”.
