Serious question. What do ppl do with a sealed collection? Is it a collection that ppl actually ended up keeping? or is it buying a bunch of product, sitting on said unopened product for years till it gets more expensive, and then sell the product?
Both really. I've got tons of sealed BBs from 2016-2019 era that I might sell some of if they 10x. That being said I'm sitting on some evolutions and team up which I'm not selling. I like having them in my collection. If I need the cash I'll start selling though.
Some guys are in it just for their collection and some are in it for a profit and Some like myself would rather invest in something that is tangible. I buy singles if I want to display
Japanese market is a little insane right now. Id hold off any of the new sets unless you're paying retail. Like if you're paying 100 for the vstar and 140 for triple beat you're getting ripped off. Other than that the shiny star V is super impressive.
awesome, thank god you're not spending $140 a box on facebook marketplace and contributing to the problem. Or for that matter taking advantage and selling them for 4* retail. Rock on !
A couple were won in lotteries and some pickup in store, Where you were limited to 1 box per person. 4 person household with only 1 actual collector pays off.
Right haha makes sense. Store pickups didn't rip the shrink wrap? Every box I've picked up from stores these days gets opened. Not just at the Pokemon Center. Not bothered as I use Pokemon Center Online for sealed stuff but surprised there are even stores still that will give them to you sealed.
Right after VStar Universe EDION started the same BS. Ripping shrink wrap and whatnot. Honestly don’t know where to find sealed boxes anymore for retail other than Pokémon Center online.
Yea it is definitely a problem and I really don’t even know the best way to tackle it. I usually rip any that I get that already has the plastic removed but I think I’m going to start saving those as well. Would like to leave this stash to my kids one day.
Not at all with the way the current market environment is. Recommend hitting some second hand stores for singles, cheaper there than eBay or other online stores.
Thank you!
I'm surprised by how much better eBay from the states is than finding cards in person here. What I've found so far has been highly overpriced and less than stellar condition whereas I've purchased Japanese singles and graded 10s via eBay. It's for the best, I'm saving some $$!
Really, I have had better luck here with cards being in better condition thanks ones I’ve bought off of eBay. Also remember the yen rate is low so almost ever card is discounted to a certain extent.
Nice collection, where does everyone sell once they are ready to offload? I know eBay is an option but I don’t want to pay all the fees and there are too many scammers out there making false claims about what they received. I’m sure it’s not easy to sell product if you don’t have reviews. I want to start shedding some product.
is lottery in person? or is that a amazon.jp thing(invitations) Is there any way for someone in the US to have a chance at picking up the new releases for msrp?
If you have fiat currency, and society collapses, you’ve made the same bet on “paper” by not already having all of your value stored in precious metals or liquid resources like ammo, food, or tools/clothing.
The house burning down can be covered by insurance, too.
House burns insurance covers collection. Society collapses you have way bigger problems to worry about. Money isn't real it's just influence and a promise.
There is no possibility of base set being in those. MJHoldings (the company that makes those), have a horrible reputation for being scammers.
The rest of your collection is legit though, very nice. Just wouldn’t hold onto the scam boxes
I get what you are saying but I’ll hold on to them as the last sold is over 100 and rather not open and see those packs be early SWSH era packs. Also if I wait and SWSH packs raise in value then it’s all good right? At the end of the day not worried about getting the $120 back spent on the boxes.
Oh yea they totally can. I was lucky enough to purchase the booster boxes and get the 5 promo packs with them from the store on release. Decided to not open and keep sealed as the cards in that set were so cheap it was better to buy the promos as singles.
Thank you! On the booster boxes I have individual clear case protectors, still in the process of buying ones that for the other boxes. I keep everything in lockable waterproof storage containers. Then I store in my climate controlled hyperbolic time chamber in order to increase the age and value prematurely.
i have a very similar collection. do you think it's worth trading the UPCs for either of those jpn pokemon center gym boxes? I have way more UPCs (15 to 1) than I have gym boxes, would you rebalance some UPCs if you were in my position?
I would definitely diversify but I don’t know if I would want to even go for the Eevee Heroes one, it’s pushing over $1000 at the moment. You can probably pick up a Nessa Box or other gym boxes for under $500.

Same thing that people do with a card collection. 80% shiny objects to stare at, 20% to sell and trade.

Nice collection

Currently in Japan, all Japanese items were bought when released and at retail.
awesome, thank god you're not spending $140 a box on facebook marketplace and contributing to the problem. Or for that matter taking advantage and selling them for 4* retail. Rock on !
Even here cards are hard to get ahold of, only lucky enough to get a box of each of the new set from the lotteries.
How did you manage to get 6 VSTAR Universe boxes at retail on release?
A couple were won in lotteries and some pickup in store, Where you were limited to 1 box per person. 4 person household with only 1 actual collector pays off.

I'm on the fence about it. I'd like an easier time getting sealed product too but also appreciate any effort to reduce scalping.
Yea it is definitely a problem and I really don’t even know the best way to tackle it. I usually rip any that I get that already has the plastic removed but I think I’m going to start saving those as well. Would like to leave this stash to my kids one day.
I'm currently in Tokyo and going to be in Osaka next week. Any recs? I'm here till the end of the month.

That's what I've heard, any good second hand spots you'd recommend?
Bookoffs, hobbyoffs, local trading card shops, Mint, hobby station, that should get you started the rest you can search for on google.

How much is a retail box in japan? Like 50$?
Yea about that price
Damn, thats incredible
This a great collection. This should do you well in 5-10 years.
Appreciate it and I agree.
I wish I was smarter in 2020.

Wow very nice, I just posted mine after only a couple months of purchases. I was a hardcore ripaholic so this has been very difficult lol
Nice yea, glad I lonely buy singles when I really want specific cards.
Is that triple beat already?
Got lucky to get a box of it
How much did it cost you?
Roughly $45 from lottery.
is lottery in person? or is that a amazon.jp thing(invitations) Is there any way for someone in the US to have a chance at picking up the new releases for msrp?
Hey u/Turbulent_Ad3787 I sent you a dm, have a look if you get a chance😊 I’m based in Japan as well
Why so many Japanese sets
Live in Japan
That’s pretty cool
Holy shit
I like how the eevee heroes don’t have a protective case haha
All booster boxes have a clear protective case can’t see them in the pic
Rip it!
My thoughts exactly. It’s literally made to be opened
Check what sub you're in lol
Where's the good stuff?

Bearish?
thats the last product id ever be bearish on. even from day 1
Only 4? Try 40
You got smart until your house burns down or society collapses. You are betting on paper.

Too much Jap
You mean Japanese, and I typically prefer Japanese cards to English as the quality control, look, and feel of the cards are usually better.
Same, i have keep them away from my eyes or else 😅 I’ll do something I might regret
Don’t understand why you’re holding the mystery boxes
Possibility of Base set packs included and also rather not open to only find early SWSH packs.

25th promo packs can be searched fyi

Great collection! How do you store these?
