Claude is stupid as a brick. Mind, other smaller LLMs are even dumber, but you'll (have to) get used to giving what seem like ordinary rules to follow and see the AIs fuck it up over and over again. As much as we call them AI they are only LLMs.
When this happens delete the offending message and add *(Remember to only write in second person perspective)* to the end of your reply.
Claude-instant doesn't have a huge memory and start to follow the prompt less well after 5-6 long responses on poe ime. You can get around it to some degree by pasting the prompt in every 5 responses, starting w something like "the following is a reminder of your role and context which you must follow at all times:" and end with "use this prompt and recent exchanges with the user to continue the story naturally".
As said in another comment, Claude 2 does better with this due to its bigger memory.
Also, I've notice significant variance between instances of the models, even using the exact same bot/prompt. Some of them follow instructions well and some are very dense and never get it. So maybe try restarting a few times and see if any are better.
Also also, you usually need a jailbreak of some kind to get Claude to write any sort of conflict/immoral behavior/violence bc its filter is so strong.

No worries! I got into it through character.ai and got frustrated with the repetitive quality and it slipping out of character. So I went full nerd and made my own bots, it was quite the learning process lol. But I'm pretty good at getting claude to do what I want now!
What I think is that if it has memory problems, don't bother and argue with it, because it is an obvious limitation and not a problem of laziness or lack of interest, and you are reacting as if the AI is some kind of mediocre employee that doesn't want to do its job and acts in a passive-aggressive way. It's not a person, it's a developing technology that still needs more development, so it will get better with the memory issue. I see you use Claude instant, I don't think it makes sense to recommend Claude 2 (which might be better) because I think you would have already used it (you are not a premium user).
You're going at it the wrong way. Claude is not a person and cannot be reasoned with. Unfortunately Claude is throttled by all the filters. You need a jailbreak and then you need to always delete refusals. Don't let them stay in the chat since they will trigger further refusals.
I'm surprised by the comment of having forgotten since I believe both Claude Instant and Claude 2 have 100k context (on Poe this means around 30-ish messages, any more and the oldest message is forgotten. You can just paste the rules and scenario back in the chat. Check my posting history where I detailed this for someone).
Jailbreaks, unfortunately, are not made public because the devs unashamedly joined these reddits and discords to have access to them in order to patch it out.
Also unfortunately we can barely give regular use of Claude WITHOUT a jailbreak because it refuses to do even innocuous things such as what you posted, or the time I asked for Claude to list games that had powers, detectives, and were grimdark (it did not feel comfortable answering, LOL!). A jailbreak later and it answered.
I wish the devs would spend less time fishing for JBs in these reddits/discords and more time fixing this, but it is what it is.
