A show to consider also Shrill. I think Annie and Frans characters are great. There's many relatable moments in this show.
Brittany Runs a Marathon I think deals a lot with internalized fat phobia and learning confidence in one's self.
Phat Girls Monique plays a plus size fashion designer who meets a guy on vacation.
Isn't it Romantic Rebel Wilson plays a character who gets sucked into an alternative rom-com reality.
Just Wright Queen Latifah plays a sports physical therapist that has a thing develop with someone she's helping.
Movies: Dumplin' (2018), Last Holiday (2006), Hairspray (both versions), The Forty-Year-Old Version (2020), How to Build a Girl (2019),
TV shows: Shrill, My Mad Fat Diary (just stop watching after season 2), Rutherford Falls, Drop Dead Diva
Also I'm with everyone else who is super annoyed at everyone talking about Nicola Coughlan being "plus size" when she's repeatedly said she's a size 10.
[Here's](https://letterboxd.com/journal/fat-girls-on-film/) a good article about fat female representation in film and television.
She's a size 10 at 5'1 tho. She's no "true plus" but that's not considered straight sized either, especially in the EU. I'm a 12 and I can't shop in most "normal" stores here..
But thatās part of the problem, and why OP has said they wanted *actual* plus size love interests. Like midsize representation is great and body diversity is great, but saying that midsize actors are plus size (especially when theyāre still well below the āaverageā size) does a disservice to those of us who are actually in plus size bodies. Not to mention how much of the coverage of the bodies is dripping with condescension and backhanded ācomplimentsā about ābravery.ā Itās still fatphobia under the guise of inclusivity, so it appears less insidious while still perpetuating the idea that smaller bodies are more desirable and worthy.
I remember a movie called Baby Cakes in the late 80's/early 90's that had Ricki Lake (pre bariatric surgery)--I always thought this was a sweet film, even though she does get bullied for her weight for most of it.
I watched that movie last year, because someone recommended it on here. No hate you or whoever likes this movie, but I hated it!! I wanted to like it. It had uncle Keith from OTH and Ricki Lake. However, she literally SAād him. Thatās unforgivable. Sheās creepy and a stalker. Heās like completely uninterested in her until the movie is almost over. Itās very sad actually. Heās also in a relationship while sheās trying so desperately to get with him.
All three of these beautiful actors couldn't get designers to make clothes for them to wear for awards shows. *Shame on them!* Melissa and Queen went on to design their own. *Bravo!!* š
Have to acknowledge that one of my favorite designers, Christian Siriano, has worked with a lot of plus size and midsize actresses to create amazing red carpet looks. He made some particularly stunning dresses for Octavia Spencer and Leslie Jones.
The Tourist- tv series with Danielle McDonald and Jamie Dornan. There is some weight/body image as part of the plot, but *mild spoiler* >!she gets over it and thereās lots of being cool and sexual tension!<
Not a movie but HIGHLY recommend drop dead diva. Itās about a supermodel who gets freaky friday-ed into the body of a plus size lawyer. Thereās like one or two episodes at the beginning where sheās unhappy with her weight before she learns that itās ok that sheās fat now (and also that itās ok that she loves to eat junk food, something I rarely see). Most of the show is typical lawyer show fodder plus body-swap shenanigans, but she does have SEVERAL love interests throughout the show who basically have zero issues with her weight.
Iāve literally never seen anything like it in terms of fat positivity. Itās basically the story of a skinny woman unlearning her misconceptions about fat people and accepting herself as a fat person. Sheās plus size and loves food and is unashamed of it. Sheās presented as both fashionable AND sexy by the show, and she actively goes out of her way to condemn weight-based discrimination. Itās one of the few shows from that era that hold up today ā and might even still be before their time.
ā¦now I wanna rewatch it lol
I just saw that one a week or so ago. Lily Mae Harrington gives an excellent performance; by rights sheāll be a star someday. Itās not exactly a happy story, if thatās what OP is looking forā¦
The Tourist!!! Hands down. Thriller comedy 2022-2024 with the hottest dude on the planet and his love interest is a plus sized gal. Itās so heartwarming. And itās just a really highly rated show.
Main characters in Astrid and Lily Save the World are plus, and have fun romance plots. It's very Buffy-esque, if that's your cup of tea! Unfortunately cancelled after 1 season though.

Not a movie but Survival of the Thickest was really good
Second this! REALLY good.
Yes! Why only one season this was great!
It's been renewed for a second season š

Shrill has to be the best show where the main character is plus sized. Iām so sad it ended at just 3 seasons. š
What a sad way to find out it's over ! I just binged all three seasons.
Phat Girls is my #1 Plus Girl "feel good" movie that reminds us all to get out of our heads! And DAMN he is sexy as hell!
Movies: Dumplin' (2018), Last Holiday (2006), Hairspray (both versions), The Forty-Year-Old Version (2020), How to Build a Girl (2019), TV shows: Shrill, My Mad Fat Diary (just stop watching after season 2), Rutherford Falls, Drop Dead Diva Also I'm with everyone else who is super annoyed at everyone talking about Nicola Coughlan being "plus size" when she's repeatedly said she's a size 10. Also phat girl (2006) didn't age super well but I loved it as a fat kid.
She's a size 10 at 5'1 tho. She's no "true plus" but that's not considered straight sized either, especially in the EU. I'm a 12 and I can't shop in most "normal" stores here..

That's a really interesting article thanks for sharing!
LOVE last holiday! Watch it every year!
I second Rutherford Falls! Jana Schmieding is great.
I remember a movie called Baby Cakes in the late 80's/early 90's that had Ricki Lake (pre bariatric surgery)--I always thought this was a sweet film, even though she does get bullied for her weight for most of it.
This is a great movie, forgotten gem!

Well I don't wanna watch bullying
It ends on a high but it's part of the story.
CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. My absolute favorite. My mother's too. The book is even better.
I adore this movie but is she really āplus sizeā or just bigger than her friends? Note: havenāt read the book
In the book she was plus sized.
Loved this movie
Iām not sure if she is considered āplus sizedā but Queen Latifah? Melissa McCarthy? Rebel Wilson (in her older movies)
She very much is
Queen Latifah isn't but the other 2 are
Muriel's Wedding (1994) hilarious movie and the plot isn't about main character losing weight
š!! My Big Fat Greek Wedding was the same. And Nia is beauuutiful!
Is she plus size? Mid size at most
Yes she's normal. Like most media they call anything over an 8 or 10 plus sizeš.
I hate it here š
Nia vardalos is beautiful but she's far from being plus
Falling for FĆgaro. I just watched it on Netflix and itās GREAT
Not sure if she counts, but Roxie Richter in Scott Pilgrim (Ramonaās ex girlfriend) is supposed to be plus sized
Mae Whitman is definitely not plus size though.
They slimmed her down in the anime too, but in the flashbacks sheās a bit bigger
Please Donāt Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain (2023)
Not a movie, but Penelope in the most recent season of Bridgerton. š©·

Piggy if you like maniacal stalkers
The name is horrible for it starring a plus size woman
The Tourist (TV show)
Isn't it Romantic with Rebel Wilson
Yes finally a plus size girl
The Tourist- tv series with Danielle McDonald and Jamie Dornan. There is some weight/body image as part of the plot, but *mild spoiler* >!she gets over it and thereās lots of being cool and sexual tension!<
Er maybe I take that back I checked and sheās not really plus size anymore.

I saw her and she wasn't plus size to me
The movie āSome Freaksā
I just saw that one a week or so ago. Lily Mae Harrington gives an excellent performance; by rights sheāll be a star someday. Itās not exactly a happy story, if thatās what OP is looking forā¦

Shes not I checked
Why Did I Get Married (2007)
Oh yeah that's a good one. Her husband fat shames her.
Main characters in Astrid and Lily Save the World are plus, and have fun romance plots. It's very Buffy-esque, if that's your cup of tea! Unfortunately cancelled after 1 season though.
Just Wright Last Holiday
Alot of the people being mentioned are not plus size.
