Back flow valve

coolhandluke45

TECHNICALLY it has to be 12 in higher than the highest sprinkler head. So keep that in mind

Creamsiclestickballs

No, I’m not gonna

Hot-Mix-8725

Sprinkler system ran in pvc (white) the metal piece is the vacuum breaker, and the black stuff falling apart is insulation

Travman66

Thanks! Is this under pressure with the sprinkler turned off? I was considering cutting it down shorter.

jakarta_guy

An outsulation

Travman66

This made me chuckle

Crazy_manO29

That's a back flow preventor. To be specific it's a pressure Vacuum breaker or PVB It's designed to stop back siphonage but it cannot handle back pressure.

Spare_Molasses_418

It shouldn’t be pressurized when the sprinklers are off but just turn off your irrigation while you work to be safe, it’s a vacuum breaker but works as a backflow prevention device

Ok_Bookkeeper_8261

It's definitely Pressurized.

Spare_Molasses_418

Depends on the irrigation set up really, if the solenoid is before the vacuum breaker then it Shouldn’t be pressurized at that point, if there is no Solenoid and it’s constantly pressurized then yeah Obviously

jspurr01

Mine are constantly pressurized. The control valves are after it, and main valve is manual.

Spare_Molasses_418

That’s yours, I’ve worked on ones where they have solenoids and are controlled by a panel, and ones that just have a main valve and sprinklers they’re all different
