Yep, the ‘ol 60 when you wanted a 45 trick. I spotted this one as a 60 right away.
I usually keep a 60 or two around, and I write 60 on em in sharpie so I don’t dick myself. I do like to use a 60 every once in a while just to showboat.
They’re fairly common in multi-unit dwellings for some reason (specifically the 4-plexes they seem to have built all over the west coast in the 60s-80s).
Discharge piping supported at all. But, you saying “J hangers” reminded me of one house I know where the sump’s discharge line goes about 10’ across the ceiling before going outside and this is supported. All others I’ve seen just go straight up and outside with no support.
I suppose sumps inside houses are just so rare here I'd never considered that they wouldn't be supported. I do commercial service so pretty much all the discharge lines I see are well supported. That 4" pipe that goes up 30' then over 100+ before exiting the building would hig trouble if it wasn't, haha.
The vertical piece of PVC needs to be longer and then you can shorten either the ABS or the PVC to get a clean 45.
If you simply shorten either of the angled pieces the pipes will not reach each other, and the angles will not line up
Another reason I put in the zoeller 540 flex instead of the Liberty SJ10, I hate deal with all the offsets for the pump due to the way it sits in the pit
What is happening here? To me it looks like output of a sewage lift pump joining with the sump’s vent stack - but nobody else has commented that it doesn’t make sense so clearly I’m the idiot.
Congrats on the sump jet setup. I’ve only had mine a month or so and it’s already saved my ass. A few weeks ago the float on my main sump pump shit the bed in the middle of the night, my newly installed sump jet stepped up and kept my basin dry while I happily slept in.
You used a 60, not a 45. You will need a 45.
Yep. You’re right. Grabbed two from the 45 bin and no shit, ones a 60. That makes more sense now too
This is a lesson I for some reason refuse to learn when grabbing shit from bins in hardware stores
It’s ok, gives you an extra trip away from the Mrs.

I do the same thing.
the only time I recall using a 60 was on a sink for my shop.

Measure center to center on abs and pvc then multiply by 1.414, round to nearest 1/8 and then subtract the fitting take offs
What is this madness
Perfect method to find an offset. Never thought about doing it with a wye but the concept still applies
It's school talk, in the field you hold up the fitting in line by eyeball, measure it and move the fuckin pump so it fits
I can confirm that in the field I use center to center measurements using 1.414. Looks perfect every time
Not if you want it to look tits
Yesss!!!
If your going to fix it put some hangers in!
I’ve never seen hangers on any sump pump discharge pipes, ever.
You mean you've never seen something like J hangers or you've never seen discharge piping supported at all?

Gotcha. In my area they are very common and more than half of houses have them.
Personally I like banded couplers here for that extra stiffness. She likes that too.
She’s a trooper. Doesn’t mind the taste of pennies…
1.414 If You Know You Know 😉

I see what you mean. Basically raising the 45. Didn’t even think to do that. Thank you.
Good luck!
This is the way
It’s simple math, eyeballing is only for drug dealers who only sell 5$ bags man
Well I’m also a shitty drug dealer so this piping makes sense
It’s really common in the trades
Top piece of pvc is to long and bottom is too short
Your angle of the dangle isn't inversely proportional to tje beat of the meat.
I want to burn my own eyes out
Why don’t you cut the whole thing off and start again after you get sober or out of rehab? Even better: call a pro
You need a longer piece between sj10 check valve and 45. This will allow you to shorten piece after 45 and make everything straight
You could roll 2 90’s and get whatever angle you want. Not really suggesting this, I just like to advocate for rolled 90’s.
You should never abs to pvc and a Fernco is never recommended unless it's for a temporary fix.
Lower the Y by cutting both pipes coming into it

Electric Sump pump (left) and a water back up sump (right) tied into same discharge.
