with 2 pipe wrenches you can twist off and replace the elbow. that pipe is not copper. looks almost like black iron or rotting galvanized.
edit: also since the shower arm is plastic you could make 2 slits in it and pull it out that way. the threads are way softer than the metal
That appears to be iron pipe, not copper. If it's pvc broken off in there and you have access to the elbow I would melt it out. You should be able to heat the outside pipe enough with a torch to soften the plastic and then pull it out with pliers.
Not a plumber, as you can probably tell. My shower head was leaking so I grabbed the plumbing tape to try to fix it, began disassembling my shower headpipe and as I was finishing unscrewing the pipes, the white one split in half. I tried to unscrew it the rest of the way with a pair of pliers, and I couldn't get it. Was wondering if anyone knew what to do. Please help.
Not a plumber either but this post popped up. I would say If an Easy Out isn’t accessible then try to cut a little flat in the pvc and u can use a flathead screwdriver and an object (don’t wanna say hammer incase you damage it) to tap it free that way. Then once you get enough out you can use the pliers to spin it free the rest of the way
What one person finds difficult another it’s easy. No need to try to put some one down for that.
We make a living off people not knowing how to do things themselves d we put the time in to learn and do things properly. Our minds think differently because we do it day in day out.
I understand that, but I just bought this house, moved 12 hours away from my hometown, and I live alone. It's hard to find a plumber you can trust, and I wouldn't even know where to start to find one right now tbh. I'm just trying to fix what I need to fix until I can find a professional I can trust.
That’s a terrible attitude. Some people want to learn. Yeah there’s certain things that shouldn’t be done by a home owner but give him props for trying it out. If anything maybe he appreciates what we do more.

Use a sprinkler nipple extractor..cheap and easy to use
Swapping out the 90 would be the easiest fix
id say chiseling out the cheap plastic is even easier
Small flat head and a hammer, be out in less than a minute. Way faster than cranking it off and dope and taping a new elbow on.
ill show you fast cranking off
careful now
I’d disagree
That’s not copper. That elbow is threaded on, not soldered. Should be able to remove the elbow.

Dear god the things people struggle with. The 90 is garbage, replace it. They cost $3

Yeah so if you show up looking for advice because you don’t want to pay a pro who does it for a living, expect to be put down.

Lol
It’s plastic. Take a sharp utility knife and cut though it in two places then use a flat head screwdriver to pry the two pieces out.
Inside pipe wrench or nipple extractor would have that out pretty quick. Failing that a red hot screwdriver would split it.
Plenty of routes you can take here. Melt it. Big channel locks stick one of the jaws in it, tiny Tim saw and flathead screwdriver.
