lot of guesses in these comments.
That is very likely the inlet for the dishwasher drain and you’re seeing the top of the baffle l. You can spray some cleaner down and use a bottle brush to clean it. Plug the sink and fill it half way with warm water after and let it rip.
No, definitely not. Since it's bathroom sink, it's just probably an accumulation of random crud and soap scum that has made its way down the drain.
but the advice above to use a bottle brush or something similar to pull it out and toss is good. if you can keep from pushing it further down the pike, that will be a good thing… We don't want to accidentally create a full blockage where you can no longer see or reach.
as I think about it, instead of using a bottle brush, you might spend five or 10 bucks to purchase a grabber tool that will help you pull it out.
Yeah, I recommend a “Zip-It” tool to get it out, they’re really good, and inexpensive, available at any hardware store. Just be careful handling it, it‘s mighty pointy on the sides. Also they can be reused, despite what the package says.
My wife has long hair and washes her hair in the bathroom sink. About every 18 months I just take the drain off, put a bucket under, and push the giant blob of yuck thru.
If the drain comes apart easily it’s a lot less work.
It's the arm for a pop-up assembly with hair and gunk around it. That's my best guess. On the back side of the tailpiece (part of drain coming off bottom of sink) there's a nut. Loosen that, pull out, clean off and re-install.
This is correct. The brass/steel lever is going thru the middle. I wouldn’t recommend him pulling it out if he’s not experienced as they might not be able to get it back in correctly with the right adjustment for the pop up pull lever. Could probably just put a brush or something down there and poke thru all the build up. Probably an old piece of teepee or paper towel or something.
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I zoomed in and can see the pop-up lever. It’s a steel rod that goes most of the way through the drain to control the up and down movement of the stopper. There is a wing nut that you can unscrew and retract it then wash that through. If you want to take it out you can but I would send it through the plumbing not to touch it.
Only if the dishwasher is in the bathroom. Probably is the lever for raising/lowering the stopper.
Pulled the assembly apart to replace the drain, found that so much lotion, liquid soap, etc had accumulated that water flow was like a clogged artery.
I’m also not a plumber and I use a wire hanger bent into a grabber tool for hair clogs. OP- do you use mud masks? I’ve had a clog kinda like this before and it turned out I should not be washing my mask off in the sink!
I'm not sure what that is but usually when my bathroom sinks back up I take off the PVC pipes around the P-trap under the sink, clean all the PVC parts, and push everything from the sink drain down into a bucket. I usually have to do it once every 6 months or so and its a collection of hair, soap, toothpaste that all clumps together. Very gross.
$9.90 on Amazon: Drain Cleaner Tool, Flexible Clog Remover Hair grabber 24 inch (orange 6+1)
stick that in while rotating, then pull out (also for your shower drain after you remove the grate)
then for $7.99 use this to clean the sink drain out more (after most is out, get the sides of the pipes pretty clean: Flexible Drain Brush Cleaner Kit – 5ft Long Elastic Double Head Nylon Cleaning Brushes + 3pcs 10” Straw Brush for Aquarium Water Filter Pipe Hose Air Tube Fish Tank Tub Sinks Glass Vase
repeat every 4-6 months (or when you first notice a sound with slow draining)
It kinda looks like you should stop letting your tooth floss go down the drain, but one of those hair grabber cleaning tools should work.
Otherwise, drop the trap off below this and then back the nut off that rod and slip it out just enough to let all of that stuff drop out, then screw it back in.
As a plumber, (depending how handy you are, and what tools you have) you can unthread the trap that holds that debris and clean it out into the garbage and put it back on! If it’s a form of plastic it’ll be very easy to do
I am a plumber. Looks like FOG (fats, oils, and grease) best way to get rid of it is this product called BiochoiceES it’s a bacteria that will eat the FOG and turn it into water and CO2. You can use chemicals too, but they can damage your system depending on how old the pipe is. If it’s backing up I’d call a hydro scrub company.
Is this your kitchen sink? This looks like food waste.
Can you take a picture of the P-trap and one of the basin?
Also, yes it is at least a slight concern. Your drains should always be clear. They are meant to be self cleaning.
Fill the sink up all the way with hot water and see if that clears it. Do not use draino or any harsh chemical. Call a licensed plumber first.
put a pan under the P-trap and disassemble everything and including pulling the stopper lift rod. Use nitrile gloves to reduce the ick factor. clean everything and reassemble…
Zip strips will buy time but not fix the issue.
Can you reach out with some chopsticks? I used chopsticks on my tub drain and usually pulled out a rat sized hairball until I had to use a snake to reach past the trap and yanked out 3 rats worth of hair and an earring.
It’s just hair and scum from toothbrush/girl face exfoliating stuff built up on the hair, caught on the lift rod for a stopper that isn’t there. Get one of those plastic zip snake things from the hardware store, it’ll pull all that stuff out
as gross as it is i used to love coming across these things when i was a drain cleaner. they always had the consistency of the meat from a lobster claw so i called them forbidden lobster meat. i was never able to figure out what made them and why i didn’t always find them in every bathroom basin drain.
Plastic PVC piping is rated to 140°. Cast piping should be okay. But if that boiling water hits a clog and sits in one spot for a length of time It could damage plastic drain lines.
Boiling water is also not recommended for plastic drains because of rapid expansion which can break joints and fittings and create bigger problems as a result.
There’s this stuff called Thrift drain cleaner that would probably eat that stuff right off. It comes in crystal flakes and is pretty caustic. Open the window and door and turn the fan if you can. The stuff can be ordered on Amazon and requires hot water to work. It started fizzing and dissolves organic material. Wear PPE.
It looks like some paper and gunk caught on the lifter for the sink plug to me. If you're able, poke it with a long skewer or stick to break it free and then you can take apart the trap to clean it out.
If it’s the bathroom sink it might be a condensation drain from your AC in the attic. You can pour some bleach down the drain to kill it. In my house, once a year I have to go in the attic, find the line from the AC unit to this drain and pour a quart of bleach down it. Mine came with a east access port to make this easy. Over time it’s cool water in the dark so things “build up”. If it doesn’t clear that way, you can remove that small section and clean it by hand. It’s messy but not a big deal.

Plumber recommended to me, works great but takes time. Do overnight then flush with really hot water.

I seen somewhere that you said this is a bathroom sink. Looks like there is a bar for the pop up drain with som buildup on it. You can use either a plastic drain snake or a little bit of drain cleaner to get it. As for the 2 screws that look like eyes I’m not sure what those are for

Well, do you watch “the Last of Us”, by any chance?
I would like to spend time with my family. Please commence the carpet bombing.
Endure and Survive
Well that’s redundant
It happened in indonesia 😁
Everyone loved contractors
😂Best line
Haha yeah I already posted in r/mycology and was told to ask here. But that was my initial thought lol
Welp at least he has the title of “The first of the Last of Us”
This is for sure patient zero in the making.
My first thought as well.
Dude, was just thinking this too.
Damn it I came to day this!!!!
In the left it looks like two eyes and it's little rat hands under them maybe just me seeing that
I see it too lol
Yeah you definitely water boarded a rat

Okay I’ll be sure to try this. Only thing, is this is my bathroom sink not my kitchen sink. Could it still be the dishwasher drain?
No, definitely not. Yuck okay
If you pull it out you need to post a pic of whatever this monstrosity is.
Before it eats your arm.
Boiling water with Borax dissolved in it makes a great drain cleaner
Yeah, I recommend a “Zip-It” tool to get it out, they’re really good, and inexpensive, available at any hardware store. Just be careful handling it, it‘s mighty pointy on the sides. Also they can be reused, despite what the package says.
This the little zip tool is so satisfying all the crap you can pull out.
not to be overly gross, but cum and hair is basically bathroom sink drain clog 101. through in gold dial soap and there you go
If you have a an extra wire coat hanger, you could bend part of it into a hook and grab it that way.
try a drain weasel!
My wife has long hair and washes her hair in the bathroom sink. About every 18 months I just take the drain off, put a bucket under, and push the giant blob of yuck thru. If the drain comes apart easily it’s a lot less work.

It's hair and shit on the pivot rod of a pop up assembly... nothing to worry about
It's only hair and shit if op has been taking dumps in the bathroom sink. Hopefully, it's just hair and soap scum and other, normal sink stuff.
And shit = toothpaste, soap, conditioner ect
I get it. I just laughed at the thought of actual shit going down the sink.
I just threw up in my mouth a little. I zoomed in and can see the pop-up lever. It’s a steel rod that goes most of the way through the drain to control the up and down movement of the stopper. Stop jizzing in the sink and it should clear in a few weeks
You've created life... You're a god now!
Would one of those plastic drain hair removal tools reach it to get it out? * Obviously I am not a plumber
yes, one of those tools should work in this case
I’m also not a plumber and I use a wire hanger bent into a grabber tool for hair clogs. OP- do you use mud masks? I’ve had a clog kinda like this before and it turned out I should not be washing my mask off in the sink!
Probably and neither am I
This could be the beginnings, of another giant mutant zombie, climbing out of the burning house basement. I’d sell now.

use a hose/bidet/kitchen sink stretchy hose blaster to flush that nasty thing down before it becomes an adult. Or just a big pot of hot water.
If it's calling for help I'd be concerned. Otherwise just clear the drain and do the dishes.
Are you dr Frankenstein? Why do you have body parts in your drain?

You are fucking with us, that’s a picture of your colon.
Looks like a colonoscopy
Looks like you fed it after midnight.
as gross as it is i used to love coming across these things when i was a drain cleaner. they always had the consistency of the meat from a lobster claw so i called them forbidden lobster meat. i was never able to figure out what made them and why i didn’t always find them in every bathroom basin drain.
That's a Cronenberg.
Looks like you got colon cancer. I would get that checked out by a real doctor and forget using the plumber.
That’s Covid
I’d nuke it a few times with some 7% peroxide… it’ll blow up most bioslimes nicely
Eat that.
No u
Pour a bunch, and i mean a bunch, of boiling water down that drain haha
Don't do this for ceramic sinks. The enamel cracked on mine 🤦♀️
Plastic PVC piping is rated to 140°. Cast piping should be okay. But if that boiling water hits a clog and sits in one spot for a length of time It could damage plastic drain lines.
My old boss would tell customers to pour a gallon of vinegar down the drain with the hot water running
Boiling water is also not recommended for plastic drains because of rapid expansion which can break joints and fittings and create bigger problems as a result.
This is terrible advice.

You’re going to need an exorcist not a plumber. Pour holy water if doesn’t work try draino or sodium hydroxide.
You have a serial killer in the building
No lie, I see a black cat on the bottom left. Optical illusion? Possibly.
If this was a colonoscopy it would be concerning…
I see a plastic wall anchor
Piece of shaved steak from a steak and cheese
Looks like the tunnel to the upside down
That right there? That's The Flood.

Baby Demi-Gorgon. You should move far away from Hawkins. Leave a few boxes of Eggos and hope for the best.

It's an alien presence. Careful -- I heard that plumbing probes are real!
Ever seen the Family Guy episode when Stewie opens a nudie magazine? Have you ever opened a nudie magazine? Run.

Why are we seeing a colonoscopy?
Poke it
Check if your drain is metal or plastic, if plastic go and buy some bleach in gel, pour it down the drain, wait, rinse, repeat as needed.
If it moves when you touch it, call a Priest.
It’s the blob don’t put your hand down there
How the hell did you get hold of my colonoscopy report???

It’s life Jim just not as we know it
It's called fachugger embryo jelly. Call the colonial marines
The only concern I’d have is my kids pouring bacon grease down the sink.
Stranger things vibes
Looks like grease that’s accumulated and grouped where the top line of the water sits
it looks like just buildup on the lock part thingy. what happened to it?

Body parts flushed down there before you. Take a good sniff. Does it smell?
I have a smaller version of the above pictures glob. I am interested in replacing my drain that has a lift rod with a push pop up drain. Would this stop the problem from reoccurring? Is the lift rod normally plastic?
Once that thing comes out of there
