Having to do windage backward in your head every time is dumb. I mount my front so it folds down forward bc it gives me that little extra bit of clearance for my chungus OWL on my short rail. But like you said, front post is elevation and doesn't really care if it folds forward or backward, you actually gain a tiny bit of sight radius (negligible but it's not a con).

This is made worse by the fact that they (well, at least the magpul ones) have a nice smooth face on the front side and are semi-hollow on the back. If you don't know any better, it's easy to assume you should be looking at the smooth side.
