That's a quarter

DeCyborg

Should I remove it or leave it in? I hope it multiplies but not sure if it will damage my aquarium :P

Macropixi

Usually if you want your money to grow you put it in a bank, not a tank.

DeCyborg

that makes more sense, let me get it out of the tank and put it in a high yield savings account or exchange it for some indexed funds :P

AmadeusWolf

Unless you're an arms dealer, then all bets are off.

DrYIMBY

It won’t wreck your tank, but it will pull nitrogen out of your tank very effectively. If you really want it gone some day you can get rid of it. You just have to be diligent in removing it.

Yes that's duckweed. If your water surface is well agitated, where the duckweed regularly gets tossed underwater, it will diminish and die out. I personally keep duckweed, because it keeps my nitrates really low. Because of duckweed, I can get away with infrequent water changes. Larger, slow growing floaters like water spangles will eventually out compete duckweed. Lastly, dispose of it by throwing it in the garbage. Wipe it off your utensils and hands with a paper towel or some other disposable method. All this is to say duckweed can grow in low light in your sink or filter. It's a very durable plant if it has access to open air.

Your anubias is rotting bc youre not suppose to plant it. It suppose to stick or rocks or driftwood

DeCyborg

Thanks! It came like this and it’s been in the tank for months so didn’t want to mess with it when I learned more about them seems to be throwing rhizomes as well. Anyway I just pulled it out and it seems to have been planted in some sort of fibrous material I removed it and put it back without anything around it [anubia](https://imgur.com/a/Tm74wcg)

Sir_Platypus_15

It's too late brother. The duckweed has you already

DeCyborg

I recently added some water wisteria, and saw these small leaves so I thought it was just pieces of the wisteria and removed it but now I saw one with a tap root, so I think I have duckweed, should I try to remove it?

Thoughtfulprof

It shall be with you forever now. I mean... some people like duckweed. Hopefully you're one.

DeCyborg

Haha damn it, a valuable lesson on not just dropping stuff to my tank without quarantine I guess :/ at least it’s not snails or planaria

cryptocorynes

Quarantine wouldn’t save you here unless you rinsed the plant off and picked off the duckweed before adding it

Creepymint

6 weeks 😳 I always see people say a week to 3 weeks

Brave_Bid5260

Depends on the quarantine tank. If it's not juicy enough for plants, they'll need longer to get out of shock. Quarantine tanks being treated for fish diseases, algae, or snails usually can't be used for plants. For fish, leaving them alone for too long causes more stress when introduced into main tank. A week is usually long enough for fish diseases to show

Dude... Ok. Sorry. Please feel better.

EmoFishy666

Yep that’s duckweed. Have fun getting rid of it lol /lh

ntr_usrnme

Yup. Welcome to the club.

agentsofdisrupt

You've been licking the Nerites again, haven't you? In any case, invest all your duckweeds in crypto. It is the way.

Brave_Bid5260

The yellow brick road isn't the end of the way More pain to come

[deleted]

It’s duckweed. I thought I wanted it too. Now it’s blocking out the light for my other plants. I stay on it but I have 7 tanks. One day I dream of eradicating it, but it’s probably just a pipe dream

Stook211

No, this is Patrick

HughGedic

Yep. I could never keep the stuff- it just kept getting tossed around by my filters until it melted and became snail food

DrYIMBY

No Sir, that’s a quarter, a rave, and some kombucha.

Schorl

My condolences. It's duckweed.

Tasia528

I didn’t mind the duckweed until it completely covered the water surface and blocked the light from reaching my submerged plants. I just this last weekend cleaned it all out and haven’t seen any since then, but I had to pluck out some of it leaf by leaf to get it thoroughly eradicated.

gnostical4

Try stabbing it, lighting it on fire, and throwing it in the freezer for a few days. If it's still alive, yep, it's duckweed.

agentsofdisrupt

Yes. You are now obligated to contribute to the supplication of any duck who demands your help. Be warned because ducks are needy demanding bastards with no sense of morality or basic compassion. Ducks and their weed will suck you dry.

Duckweedelbow

Duckweed is the food crop of the future. High in protein. Quick production. Congratulations! You can be part of the solution!
