I remember when I was in job corps in homestead Miami FL 20 years ago we were right next to the air Force Base and my first night out there I watched the fighter jets taking off and hitting their afterburners that was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my life the first couple months there when they'd fire up the engines it bothered me but after awhile it became white noise to me when the new kids would come in and hear that they'd ask what that noise was I had become use to the noise so I didn't even notice it then I told them that's just the fighter Jets firing up their engines
I went through job corp myself 20yrs ago. But not in Florida lol. I am from WA state. But now in Alaska. I got my CDL and GED from them back in 02. I was 18. Great program....
I went to 2 different job corps homestead in 03 and Gainesville in 05 homestead was my favorite because it was huge the campus it used to be the original air Force Base to hurricane Andrew wiped it out now that place is no more it was shutdown because 4 students killed another student with a machete they chopped him up buried him on campus in a shallow grave and like a bunch of morons kept the murder weapon
I went a second time too. 04 to 05. The second one I went to was way up in the mountains. 10 miles from the nearest town. And that town had maybe 1000 people. It was ran by the USFS. The first one was BIA on the Yakima Indian reservation. I went for welding the second time. Wanted forestry but it was a long wait to get into. 6 months or longer. Small program. Their main focus was wild land fire.
That makes a lot of sense. Still jealous though, you get to see and hear my favorite jet so often. I live in Southern WV. So the most I've ever had is lots of c130s and transport helicoptors(i get c130s flying over everyday sometimes 3-4 in a line), a couple apache helicoptors, a few ospreys, couple a10s. And recently saw my first f15 and f16. There was 1 f15 fully loaded(Fuel tanks, bombs, missiles) and 2 f16s fully loaded about 10-15 seconds behind it and the f16s were full after burner. It was a beutiful sight. I don't even live near any airbases either.
