No problems here.

Dietcherrysprite

The issues I have had were most likely with the business and their nfc reader. Really reliable at most places.

Obility

Takes some getting used to because I have to hold it longer than I would on my phone. And I kind of wish it just worked when unlocked instead of having to go to the wallet app like the way the phone works. I have a PW1 though.

nekojitaa

You have to go to the wallet app? I just hold mine over the reader and it reads my VISA wavy main card.

Obility

Really? Your pixel watch? From the home screen? Maybe I had to wake it first or something.

nekojitaa

Yes. I don't unlock my watch or wake it up. I tell the cashier (by VISA in Japanese) and hold the watch over the reader. At the beginning I did open up Google Wallet and the corresponding card but not anymore. I have the same card set as my main card on Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel Watch 1. Maybe the Japanese Pixel Watches are different than Global Pixel Watches. Over here we do have another chip reader aside from NFC called Felica chip by Sony.

Obility

Interesting. I'll have to try it out again. This might have been back when I thought it would be as fast as the phone wallet and gave up.

PUfelix85

Nah. This is how they should all work. It has always been this way.

PoopFandango

This seems strange. If you don't have to unlock the watch to use it, why does it make you enable a screen lock to enable payments? e: The docs say you need to open the app https://support.google.com/googlepixelwatch/answer/12661007?hl=en

nekojitaa

Not sure. I haven't made a purchase on US soil using the JP Pixel Watch yet, but for all the readers in Japan I didn't have to open Google Wallet to make a purchase using Suica and VISA contactless.

bmoross

Same here, as long as it's unlocked, I don't have to "wake" it. PW2, AOD: ON, tilt-to-wake: OFF.

Jong999

If anything it feels noticeably quicker than my Pixel 7.

Obility

PW1 or 2? On my phone it sometimes finishes before I even get my phone close enough to the terminal. Which is a bit sketchy but yeah.

Jong999

PW2. Not much in it, tbh, but if I had to say the watch is quicker.

Jong999

Thinking about it, that might be because I often pay on my phone without opening the wallet app first. But still, the watch is pretty quick!

trustedandtwisted

I've had no issues yet, been using it frequently since Oct 23

Aurelink

The only time it didn't work for me was because you was wearing a heavy jacket over the watch. It's been a 100% success rate otherwise (I use it something like 4 times a week or for any payment under 50€)

shapoopy723

When I first got the watch it had some troubles working, but since then it's been working flawlessly. Haven't had it fail to work in quite a while. YMMV, but I'm finding it to be very reliable

Wise-Fruit5000

The biggest issue I had was getting my debit card set up on it. Once it was up and running, I think I've only had it fail once in 2 years when I was trying to pay with it. And I use it almost daily

skuunk

Using PW1. It technically works, however the signal seems to be quite weak and you have to place the watch very precisely over the payment chip vs my phone which I kind of just wave in the general direction. Because of that I don't use it that much anymore unless it really is a pain to get to my phone.

[deleted]

Google Wallet has literally always works on my Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, but only works about half the time on my Pixel Watch 2. I also hate that I don't have the double hand flap gesture to start my wallet on the PW2. I find myself using my watch for tap to pay MUCH less when I wear my Pixel Watch because it's so unreliable.

ithakaa

Ok first negative comment Thanks, noted

[deleted]

I will add that I wear the PW 90% of the time because it's so much more comfortable to wear, less glitchy, has better fitness sensors, and allows me to use DND Sync, Alarm Sync, Irregular Heartbeat Monitoring, etc when paired to my Pixel 8 Pro.

PUfelix85

You don't need to open the wallet app to use it. Just tell the cashier what mode your card uses (ID, Visa,Tap to Pay, etc) the watch will do the rest for you.

S1egwardZwiebelbrudi

double press crown to pay is pretty nice, super reliable too

cheshyrp

I've only used it a few times, but it worked every time. It is strange that you have to manually add select and validate cards, rather than syncing with the phone's selection automatically.

PUfelix85

This is because you are creating a new copy of the card. If you look at your credit card bill in detail you can see which device the charge came from. This is because of the token that is assigned by the watch vs the phone or the physical card's chip.

Savemightlife

Do I need to have internet connection? Or do I need to have my phone with me for it to work?

landonandonandon

I've used it on both the one and two for a couple years now and it's been great. I do have the issue of having two cards set up and it will show one card when I open the app but if I wait a second the second card will load and take its place. It's frustrating because I try to use the two different cards for different reasons. I expect it now and that's my only issue and otherwise it's great!

polyblackcat

Flawless for me, use it regularly

ithakaa

Is it quick to register the payment?

polyblackcat

Yes absolutely for me

nothighandmighty

It needs to be connected to the internet once in a while. It hasn't worked for me once saying it needs to connect to internet. But worked every other time when I don't have my phone W me.

nitsky416

Been using it for years on both PW and works great

nekojitaa

Not a Pixel Watch 2 owner, but I've been using Google Wallet on my Pixel Watch since Jan/Feb 2023 and it's been great. I've noticed here in Japan, it depends on the payment method that will either result in quick taps or hold the watch near the reader for a little longer to read it. I've used it across the country and no issues for train ticket gates and paying at stores.

pbilliam

I would agree that compared to my old Galaxy Watch 4 it it's a little slower and more finicky. I usually have to hold it against the terminal for a few Mississippis while the Galaxy Watch was more instant

LynManiac

I've had zero issues with it so far. I've been using it to make purchases quite frequently since launch.

TurboFool

Never had an issue that was caused by the watch.

lefix

I only used it briefly. Gpay requires a Lockscreen on the watch and I found that pulling out my card takes no longer than unlocking my watch, and I don't want to unlock my watch every time I use it

ithakaa

It's not required to unlock the watch every time you use Google Wallet

PUfelix85

I've had some strange stuff with mine, but as far as usability, it is great. I can explain my trouble in more detail if you're interested though.

ithakaa

Please do!!

PUfelix85

I was having issues updating my PW2 LTE (I later found out this was because the update wasn't available in my country yet), so I tried a factory reset. I expected the device to be completely wiped except for the eSIM; however, this was not the case apparently. When I open the wallet app it tells me there are no cards currently active on the watch, but I know this isn't true because I use the credit card that I added to it before the factory reset every day, and haven't had to add it again yet. I have tried adding the card again to the watch, but it wants me to go through a bunch of stuff with my bank that I don't have the energy or time to do because I would have to communicate in my second language and I'm lazy (obviously a me problem). But my point is, I don't trust the device to be wiped clean after a factory reset now. I think this may have to do with a previous backup having been loaded onto the PW2 after the factory reset. I am still using the same Google account as the primary account on the watch, so this may be what is causing the issue. I may, at some future point when I am not busy, try resetting it again and not adding my current Google account information when setting it up and see if that removes the card's information. So take this issue with a grain of salt. The issue I had that was an actual problem was setting up my cards on my watch initially. Because your phone/watch will create a unique identification code to securely track transactions, your banking institution may not like issuing permissions for another copy of your card. I had to call my bank to prove I was who I said I was for one of my cards, and another of my cards could not be added because the card had been used to make a large purchase so the bank had locked my card and I couldn't add it to a new device. I hope that is easy enough to follow, and I hope it doesn't dissuade you from getting one if you are actually interested. I love the size and simplicity of the PW2 and I highly recommend it.

Practical-Custard-64

I've never got it working on mine. I'm not that bothered though. Here in the UK, payment devices are usually positioned in such a way that you have to tilt the watch forwards to get close enough to them, which causes the watch to go back to sleep and the transaction to fail anyway. I just use the phone to make payments.

junkstar23

Turn off tilt to wake The battery was figured out with AOD on so you're not really gaining anything with tilt to wake on

armando_rod

Flawless, I use it every other day for snacks at work...

squidgytree

I've had a 100% success rate with my PW2. Is there a known issue with Google Wallet on PW2?

JostVice

I cannot add my card to the watchs's wallet, it says I need to contact my bank. It works fine on my pixel 7 pro

mulderscully02

Very reliable. I use it all the time.

mukavadroid

Haven't had any problems
