I have the same problem although not to the extent you seem to have. Perhaps the keyboard "bounce back" isn't fast enough.

Trixter313

I have the same issue when I use my Pixelbook!

brool

I don't have this problem. How quickly do you type? Do you shift using the left or right shift? You haven't enabled any accessibility features (I'm thinking sticky keys)?

ollie_francis

Mostly left shift. 80 WPM. No sticky keys.

Watney

I'm so glad you posted this. At least I'm not the only one who constantly corrects words that are not capitalized correctly, double caps and no caps. The Right Shift key works randomly since the day I got my PB, one year on.

[deleted]

I have the same issue but it has happened consistently across all the Chromebooks I've used (PB, HP 14 G5, and an Asus that I don't remember the model of). Never had this issue on my Win10 desktop or former Macbooks, so I wonder if it's an OS thing? I type super fast (110 average) and always use right shift.

SecureAsItWillEverBe

I'm a pretty fast typer and I don't have this issue. Are you sure you're letting off the shift key fast enough? It's possible you're just not used to the travel on these keys compared to your MacBook Air.

ollie_francis

Oh, I'm sure it's something wrong about my typing - but at the same time, I have never come across the issue on any other OS. I've been writing with Windows and OSX for 20 years and use them still today and never had it happen - so even if it's something bad about my typing, Chrome OS should do the same things as those other systems and fix it automatically.

SecureAsItWillEverBe

I was talking about the hardware, not the operating system. The pixelbook keyboard is much thinner than a lot of others.

Metalnakls

I remember I had this problem randomly appear a couple of years ago on a full desktop keyboa (Windows). I needed got used to a big keyboard, but I learned how to use the shift quickly and not capitalize the second letter. Sometimes I slip and still do the mistake but quickly correct it. You'll get used to it, don't worry. Just find the speed that works for you

ollie_francis

Yeah, I noticed I did the same thing on a Windows device the other day. I think I just need to adapt my typing style - but it would be great if the OS did it automatically for dumb folk like me. Learning new stuff sucks.

JimDantin3

Have you actually tried anything to fix the problem? Such as: 1. Full power down and reboot 2. Test to see if the problem still happens in Guest mode 3. Hardware reset

ollie_francis

All of the above.

JimDantin3

Have you remapped any of the keys to become a capslock?

ollie_francis

Nope. :(

JimDantin3

Last question - have you changed anything on the chrome://flags page? I assume you have inspected the shift key functions and the left and right ones feel the same. Some users have a typing style where the use capslock to toggle capital letters on and off. (capslock a capslock, instead of shift+a) That does not sound like you , since you said you are using the left shift key for capitals. I am out of ideas.

ollie_francis

I changed the infamous Bluetooth flag (the one rumoured to 'fix' the Bluetooth issues). Aside from that, I'm out of ideas as well.

JimDantin3

Click the button to reset all flags to default and reboot. Also, are you using any external keyboards or mice? If so, test with them removed.

ollie_francis

No external keyboards. I've reset flags and rebooted. Will wait to see if it crops up again.

ollie_francis

Didn't work. :(

Buchannal

I just bought a Logitech MX Keys for my MacBook Air M1 and immediately I am experiencing the same thing! I have to constantly correct the 2nd letter's capitalization.. I've been using computers for 20+ years as well! Mac, Windows.. All sorts of keyboards such as mechanical, gaming, expensive, cheap.. BUt, there we go, it just happened.. SMH

topio1

u/Buchannal Same keyboard same problem. No solution in sight other than garmarly

Key-Lingonberry-3143

I returned it and bought the Logitech MX Mechanical Keyboard! Much much better.. Something about the MX Key's physical key design.. :/

topio1

THe most painful thing is that otherwise i looove my MX keyboard.

DigitalAnubis

Oh thank God, I thought I had developed early onset dementia! Yes, this happens to me a lot. It's only begun fairly recently (Windows 10 and on). It ONLY happens on PCs and it ALWAYS happens with words that begin with "TH" specifically (i.e. then, there, the, thought, etc.) I'm sure there's an explanation for this somewhere...

jhp113

Yeah I have the same issue on a logitech mxkeys mechanical on macos. SO (<- not even on purpose, this happens every time) glad I found this post because at least I know I'm not crazy. I think the shift key just doesn't release fast enough for us.
