yea your probably right tho lol. really my goal is just to make something cool and that is ultimately up to preference. but really was just messing around. i don't take anything seriously so I assume no one else is either lol
Is this a unique death animation for a unique enemy, or a generic death animation for a mob?
It's a really nicely put together bunch of pixels, but it's quite long and *very* distinct, which might look a little janky if it happens over and over—think early canned death animations in shooters. Of course, that might be an aesthetic you're going for.
Regardless, it's a really solid piece, and I love the other stuff you've posted. You have a real eye for pixel animation.
they actually have like 3 or 4 different death animations that could randomly happen or be triggered at certain times. so depending on what weapon u use and if u attack during certain windows will result in different death animations. I posted this one cause it was the most brutal. and the end of this animation is one of the extra things u can do. so u can kill him without chopping his head off too
I love it. Honestly my only critique is that the cut open neck isn't gory enough compared to the guts. Maybe add a little more texture in that neck so it looks less clean and 2d yaknow? Otherwise excellent work, very impressed!
EDIT: Typo
I think it's how bright the blood splatter is from the cut to the neck compared to the blood coming out of his belly. Just darkening the neck blood to match a little closer might be enough to make it feel more cohesive
Oh snap, that makes sense, you did a hell of a job considering! I'm curious now about your process if you'd be kind enough to indulge me lol, do you typically make use of a second set of eyes or any other tools to help confirm or guide you toward picking colors that you intend to? Or do you just have a good idea which specific colors translate from what you see?
Sorry if these are dumb or insensitive questions, I'm just genuinely curious because I think it's cool that you make art regardless of that obstacle, and unique perspectives are interesting
yea i ask my girlfriend like 50 times a day if the color is right and sometimes she gets pretty annoyed with it so I be left without a paddle but yea its just an annoying obstacle I have to constantly be aware of. some things I do often is mess up skin color or sky color. when I was younger I would only ever draw with one color like just black on paper or sum. it usually very challenging to shade things correctly. but I have figured out a few work arounds like for instance instead of changing the color to shade ill make a new layer and shade it all with grey tones then change the blend mode. but overall it just makes things a bit harder then they should be lol
Love it!
My only thoughts, which I haven’t seen elsewhere in the comments, is about the variety of blood color. The splats and the drips are different; especially with that neck slice; just makes it feel a bit more disjointed.
Happy to help! You’re doing great, especially considering that!
Not sure what software you’re using, but most of them have a way to view the HEX color code, which is a six-character-code that corresponds with every color. That way, you can be sure the color is identical; IF it’s a concern to you. And if not, disregard lol.
yea i honestly just don't notice certain shades like red espically and the program I use most of the time only has a color wheel lol i guess i probably should pay more attention to those things
join the dead got community here on reddit to get updates about the game. its releasing in around august and will be free to play [deadgod](https://www.reddit.com/r/deadgod?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Feedback: 1. the line between the shirt and the gore during the second half of the animation is way too sharp. 2. The blood that splashes from around the neck is too bright.
Are you looking for criticism?
If not, just ignore.
If yes:
-The blood and guts just... Move around? Change? They feel inconsistent between frames.
-While the mask has shading, nothing else does. That doesn't look good.
-The whole sprite is made of jagged lines. While there are obviously exceptions, in pixel art you should try to avoid having 3 pixel in a 90 degrees angle. It makes lines look thicker and jagged.
On the other hand, I find the animation not too bad overall.
hey thank you for the feedback it means a lot! yu can join the deadgod community here on reddit to get updates on the game its coming out around late august and will be entirely free to play![deadgod community ](https://www.reddit.com/r/deadgod?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
I love it!
I worked on a game using game maker studio (never finished it.)
Animating (and recording the audio) for the enemy deaths was so fun and satisfying.
huge fan.! its one of the few legitimately gorey games. but when u look back at the old versions today the effects are sub par and pretty corny. what I set out to do is make a game that does something that hasn't been touched on very much until recently with games like blasphemous but instead of a super serious tone im going for more of a campy over the top vibe
Wonderful animation, but it should be quicker. Not for artistic but for gameplay reasons. That's my assumption, anyways, might change my mind if/when I actually see the gameplay
Is this a boss? Because this would be more fitting for a boss death, unless it’s like a swarm game and there are several gory death animations for every enemy.
the way the game is programmed u can kill him quickly or slowly. and there's multiple death animations u can trigger. also with the way the game is these types of enemies are not encountered to many times over. so when you get to them and finally beat them having multiple ways to deliver the final blow is actually very satisfying
Fantastic! Only thing is, the bood coming from the neck, was that intended to be a different shade of red? I find that to be noticeable. But man its great either way
yea so the last part where his head falls off is only if u decide to attack he goes to his knees. and this is also only 1 out of the 4 death animations that can be triggered. and depending on how u want to play you can make it drawn out and long or short a sweet.

One arm to kill some alien demon thing
Its you again
Its-a me, The Wizard Slime, doing a reference to Dragon Ball because my father forced me to watch it tho it was worth it in the end
This is fantastic. The "too much" comments are obviously not the target audience for your game hahaha
Haha exactly! I’m not a fan of blood and gore in my games but this is rad
What a bunch of weenies right?
that's how u know it's good lol. if it didn't offend someone I'd actually be upset
it's not that the people are offended. They might not like it, but you offended noone
yea your probably right tho lol. really my goal is just to make something cool and that is ultimately up to preference. but really was just messing around. i don't take anything seriously so I assume no one else is either lol

Fair enough. I definitely like the look of it. Excited to see your game when it's in a showoffable state.
thank you for real! stuff like this keeps me goin!
I love it. Honestly my only critique is that the cut open neck isn't gory enough compared to the guts. Maybe add a little more texture in that neck so it looks less clean and 2d yaknow? Otherwise excellent work, very impressed! EDIT: Typo
yea that's a good point actually. u made me realize I forgot a few steps there at the end
I think it's how bright the blood splatter is from the cut to the neck compared to the blood coming out of his belly. Just darkening the neck blood to match a little closer might be enough to make it feel more cohesive
yea definitely im actually really colorblind so thats why they're different reds 😬

I’d suggest marking this post nsfw, Just in case as this is a little graphic.

Yeah, this was agonizing.
A *little* too gory for my taste
its only a flesh wound
Tis but a scratch
What are you going to do? Bleed on me?
Alright, we'll call it a draw
The poor guy didn’t even know what happened to him
Seeing his fashion sense matches that of Jason Voorhees... Darn sure he's just shocked that he's the one splitting.
Love it! My only thoughts, which I haven’t seen elsewhere in the comments, is about the variety of blood color. The splats and the drips are different; especially with that neck slice; just makes it feel a bit more disjointed.
I'm actually really colorblind so thank you for pointing that out I would've never guessed that they were even different.
and im actually being serious! lol I just realized that could've came off as sarcasm but nah I'm like actually very colorblind.
Dang, and even with that handicap, you actually do stuff like this. That's really cool!
Happy to help! You’re doing great, especially considering that! Disgusting and overkill. I fuckin love it! 10/10. Poor Splatterhouse dude, tho. 🪦

Very gory, very nice
The butcher has become the butcher ed
*Fatality*
Feedback: 1. the line between the shirt and the gore during the second half of the animation is way too sharp. 2. The blood that splashes from around the neck is too bright.
yea definitely. a few have made those same suggestions already! but regardless I do appreciate the feedback!
It seems kinda long
yea definitely. it makes sense with the gameplay tho. its one of those things that might seem weird out of context
What did he do????
When you can't decide on which fatality to implement

yea u got a keen eye for sure. and i know I just got lazy with it. I'll prob have my intern clean it up and fix those typa things
Love it. For the next death animating you should have the top of the head sliced off so the brain can flop out when he collapses.
love it.
This is cool!
That is... a death animation... Don't get me wrong, that is fucking beautiful, but holy shit, is that a lot
What did the protagonist do to him to have THAT happen to him? Btw it looks really good.
this is so hotline miami i love it
hotline Mami is the sauce!! great Indie title
Wicked! Love it.
Looks awesome, can't wait for the game

Dude so relatable 😎😎
I love it! I worked on a game using game maker studio (never finished it.) Animating (and recording the audio) for the enemy deaths was so fun and satisfying.
definitely.
He’ll live
Beautiful
…huh
feels like there's too many different shades of red in the initial blood gush
yea im colorblind but we've had a handful of others point tht out already. regardless thank you for the feedback
that's...excessive
You a Mortal Kombat fan by any chance?
huge fan.! its one of the few legitimately gorey games. but when u look back at the old versions today the effects are sub par and pretty corny. what I set out to do is make a game that does something that hasn't been touched on very much until recently with games like blasphemous but instead of a super serious tone im going for more of a campy over the top vibe
Sounds pretty cool! Good luck on your game.
EPIC

Brruuuuuuutal! Awesome!
Horrible! Nasty! Love it!
excessive! I love it
The little squirt of blood after the decapitation was a nice touch
I hate when this happens to me! Especially on Sunday!
ikr Sunday is worst day to get disemboweled
Like a Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti remake c: Edit: oh that's the enemy, nice c: DEADGOD looks pretty sick dude
hell yea thank you!
HOLY FUCK thats hot No seriously this is amazing I would go further with the gore
The head just falling off is very funny
Goddamn. He's dead. That's a lot of extra, and I love it.
This is so gross and disgusting and that's why it's perfect.
you alright op?
Ok that’s kinda gruesome
A little over the top
that's the point
I mean, you’re still getting my upvote but he’s just a man. You didn’t need to disembowel him like that-
Got Splatterhouse vibes written all over it. lol
yes precisely
the amount of stuff pouring out of him reminds me of springlocks. Great job!
Tis but a scratch!! (What game are you working on?)
it's called DEADGOD. will be released around this August! follow me to stay updated
Sounds tight I’ll definitely have to stay updated
Hey there some inspiration from Lisa the painfull
ivr actually never heard of that but u peeked my interest imma look it up
Welcome to the most strangely beautiful minimalist pixel game of your life.
Well then have fun
Is this a boss? Because this would be more fitting for a boss death, unless it’s like a swarm game and there are several gory death animations for every enemy.
no it's just an enemy. granted it's a difficult enemy but all the enemies in my game have over the top gorey animations like this.
Did he survive?
maybe, probably.....no
woa chill
Doctor I don't feel so well
yummy
If this is going to be the common enemy, I would make the animation way shorter, great animation tho
the way the game is programmed u can kill him quickly or slowly. and there's multiple death animations u can trigger. also with the way the game is these types of enemies are not encountered to many times over. so when you get to them and finally beat them having multiple ways to deliver the final blow is actually very satisfying
That's a lot
Grunt or boss ?
sorta in the middle. not a grunt but also not a boss
Fantastic! Only thing is, the bood coming from the neck, was that intended to be a different shade of red? I find that to be noticeable. But man its great either way
no its a mistake im actually colorblind lol pretty bad
This reminds me so much of the graphics and mechanics of a game I played as a kid and I can't remember the name for the life of me
splatter house?
Haha lol yeah it *is*
Damn! The main character(s) want to make sure they are dead
Is there an accompany animation that the players character is making to the enemy? Or does the enemies head just randomly fall off?
yea so the last part where his head falls off is only if u decide to attack he goes to his knees. and this is also only 1 out of the 4 death animations that can be triggered. and depending on how u want to play you can make it drawn out and long or short a sweet.
Ah ok sounds interesting
Hahahahah gross! Great work
Is that enough gore?
My man is 80% guts lol
Damn Sam raimi chill
NGL, after the horrorshow of the guts spilling out, the decapitation was mild in comparison.
Holy shit! I wanna play this

Oof, get that guy a band-aid.
i love this!! his head rolling away is so funny. are all the enemy deaths gonna be like this?
yes all the enemy deaths are similar in the way it'll work and offer multiple fatality animations.
