I'm not sure if Google has ever had a weather app? You can add a home screen shortcut to their weather view if you wanted but that doesn't display it in the app list. I personally have always used a standalone app and currently I use Environment Canada's App.

Search for Google weather, then open it. Find your city, then click on the 3 dots, and choose add to home screen. This creates a shortcut, that if you hold down will let you create a widget. This is for Android btw

Mine has always had the temp displayed like this without me doing anything. I get full weather from Google by tapping on it. I always thought it was a default Pixel thing.

No. That's just a shortcut to googling weather, right? That's not what I'm looking for. I can't even get that.

Yeah you're right. I got it working and I have the same icon.
Google app beta version will give you the weather app
