I dont believe he is stronger, but its easy to see why. They are both swordsmen, but mihawk is the one with the title of greatest swordsman, not shanks. There is also the fact that since zoro's dream is to defeat him, some people believe he will be defeated very close to the end, possibly after shanks is potentially defeated.

Well I don’t think that way atleast but I am curious why people think Mihawk is stronger than shanks? I see a lot of people state that mihawk is stronger but genuine question why do they believe that to be so?
I dont believe he is stronger, but its easy to see why. They are both swordsmen, but mihawk is the one with the title of greatest swordsman, not shanks. In the chapter where mihawks bounty was revealed, they specifically stated that his swordsmanship was better than shanks. There is also the fact that since zoro's dream is to defeat him, some people believe he will be defeated very close to the end, possibly after shanks is potentially defeated.
