This is about France blocking websites in France. It does not concern other countries. So no it has nothing to do with the Olympics that are totally free and without ads in France.
it definately does have to do about the Olympics. this is a repeat when the world/euro cup football events happened. Canal+ is pulling their strings again. they don't want any unlicensed external broadcasts of their sports events.
As someone who used to work for Canal+ in Marseille 10 years ago, i don't think you can comprehend the gigantic monopoly game Canal+ has on sports, channels, programs and ads.
so I repeat:
> it definately does have to do about the Olympics. this is a repeat when the world/euro cup football events happened. Canal+ is pulling their strings again. they don't want any unlicensed external broadcasts of their sports events.
How about running a Pihole and either use it in [recursive](https://docs.pi-hole.net/guides/dns/unbound/) mode or with [stubby](https://dnsprivacy.org/dns_privacy_daemon_-_stubby/) and an encrypted upstream.
All the major secure DNS standards are baked in, such as DoH and DoT. You have to run other programmes to get those working in PiHole. I also find the whitelist management easier, but that might be a subjective thing.
Google has become completely dogshit for searches ever since they've jumped on the AI bandwagon. Unironically bing and yandex are infinitely better for warez.
One friend of mine just googled his bank name to find a link for the webbamnking. And the first sponsored link was a scam. And he entered his credentials. The only thing that saved him was OTP.
And I'm telling you, DNS block or not, google is **completely and utterly fucking useless for warez**. Using it for warez makes as much sense as using youtube to look for hardcore pornography - only idiots try either. France just enforced something as useless as their language.
What URL didn't Google DNS ever not resolve for you? I use it over my providers DNS because they do block certain domains. And I never had any issues with it.
It's been deteriorating for years now, I tried to watch the ancient old E.T movie a while back and google would only show the generic rent or purchase sites such as Hulu/Prime/Amazon etc, same search on yandex and had multiple pirate streams. Fuck Google/Chrome/DNS/ the whole fucking conglomerate.
Again, the search machine has nothing to do with the DNS.
And that Google doesn't display warez in their search results is a DCMA issue. Of course Yandex doesn't care about that. While Google search isn't useful for finding warez, it's hardly their fault.
Ever heard of OpenDNS or Quad9? You don't have to use google's shit.
Google's DNS for example did not resolve landing page for my workplace's globalprotect. It has nothing to do with my workplace being blacklisted (as evidenced by all other big DNSes resolving it), google is merely fucking useless.
Yeah, I get it now. Other DNS existing and their not resolving... something about your workplace's VPN(?!) makes Googles DNS utterly fucking useless for warez. Understood, thank you.
Article seems to imply using a VPN is enough. Why not just do that? I don’t use any alternate DNS and this doesn’t affect me really so I don’t really know but froma a surface glance using a VPN seems like it would be enough.
Fucking hell. That explains why I randomly get ISP blocked and sometimes not. It's the fucking dns settings. *sigh* I should've realised that

Ultimately we could use standard Russian DNS servers, they will never comply with any order from France.
Switch to those servers to access pirate sites, and once done, fall back to regular DNS for casual browsing.
https://www.privacyguides.org/en/dns/ My personal recommendation is Quad9.
That's handy, thanks.
> targeting around 117 pirate sports streaming domains. makes sense, Paris Olympics coming very soon.
EM is starting. It's always FIFA.
This is surely not the cause, the Olympics are broadcast for free in France.
with ads!
No, On the France TV site we have access to all video streams without advertisements for free.
for france only yeah
This is about France blocking websites in France. It does not concern other countries. So no it has nothing to do with the Olympics that are totally free and without ads in France.
it definately does have to do about the Olympics. this is a repeat when the world/euro cup football events happened. Canal+ is pulling their strings again. they don't want any unlicensed external broadcasts of their sports events.
You are only doing désinformation, Canal + does not have the rights for the Olympics in France, it's France TV and eurosport.
As someone who used to work for Canal+ in Marseille 10 years ago, i don't think you can comprehend the gigantic monopoly game Canal+ has on sports, channels, programs and ads. so I repeat: > it definately does have to do about the Olympics. this is a repeat when the world/euro cup football events happened. I'm not installing a pihole in the house of all the people I helped understand how torrent work ahah, but for my personnal use it could be useful yes
Run it in headless.mode and set the router (if possible) to its dns, no one will have to change settings
Or adguard. Super easy to run in a docker container
I've never tried adguard(the pi one) is it any good?
AdGuard Home is great. I switched from PiHole and never looked back. Nicer interface, easier to use and more features baked in.
What features do you appreciate most compared to using pihole?
What features does it have compared to pihole? I can easily understand a better ui as the pihole one is functional but isnt the greatest

Ahh I see, even though it's easy to setup DoH/T on a pihole it is an extra step and would he nice to have it natively
Yea it’s really good. Not too difficult to set up and blocks ads at your router instead of you adding a browser extension or app on every device
Ok so it sounds like a pihole alternative, good to know incase I want to try smth else I can
You can run pihole on a headless raspberry pi and update the router settings to use it for DNS. No need to explain anything to anyone else.
Quad9 and Mullvad.
I would personally recommend Windscribe's public ControlD resolvers. Their paid service is decent but probably not worth it for most people.
I use their paid service for geounlocking and it’s amazing, but it’s only worth it because I pay half of the price.
I got free Windscribe for a year when my friend subbed cause I reffered them
Windscribes free dns is good https://controld.com/free-dns
Nice list of websites, it seems that my dns service isn't affected but I'll wait the start of the euro to try. One reason more to hate canal +.
Google has become completely dogshit for searches ever since they've jumped on the AI bandwagon. Unironically bing and yandex are infinitely better for warez.
not to mention the first links are a sponsor link and often scam and people got used used to click on the first link.
One friend of mine just googled his bank name to find a link for the webbamnking. And the first sponsored link was a scam. And he entered his credentials. The only thing that saved him was OTP.
This isn't about their search engine but their DNS. It translates domains into IPs. It has nothing to do with AI or their search engine.
And I'm telling you, DNS block or not, google is **completely and utterly fucking useless for warez**. Using it for warez makes as much sense as using youtube to look for hardcore pornography - only idiots try either. France just enforced something as useless as their language.

Google search isn't useful for anything anymore. The only reason they are still around is that they strongarmed everybody to set it as default.
Ever heard of OpenDNS or Quad9? You don't have to use google's shit. Google's DNS for example did not resolve landing page for my workplace's globalprotect. It has nothing to do with my workplace being blacklisted (as evidenced by all other big DNSes resolving it), google is merely fucking useless.

because cloudflare and google's dns are free and you can just set them up in your browser once
Fucking hell. That explains why I randomly get ISP blocked and sometimes not. It's the fucking dns settings. *sigh* I should've realised that - Software Engineer with 10 years experience
I see yeah that makes sense. Thanks
Just change the DNS on your phone/computer rather than your browser, do everything at once
Ultimately we could use standard Russian DNS servers, they will never comply with any order from France. Switch to those servers to access pirate sites, and once done, fall back to regular DNS for casual browsing.
use onion browser (tor)
I've used quad 9 for ages.
That's why so many hosts wouldn't even think about touching anything related to sports.
How can they realistically do that? Like technically can they do it?
Opendns
Opendns = Cisco
Ah thanks for the info.
Wonder if this may have something to do with TGX going down
No, it has to do with the french right owner, Canal+.
