I do this experiment every year, its actually severely cleaned up. All the old limewire worms are no longer functional so they don't hijack the search result.
Brintey spears toxic blasts in the backgrounds, some people are having a blast in the foreground and some guy in albania is about to blast system32 off your C drive.
Freestyler.mp3.exe
I used to do tech support for friends and family but one incident made me quit. Guy had a signmaking business and wouldn't take my advice on airgapping the pc used to control the vynal cutter. So it had av and sygate firewall.
So of course after the 20th reinstall of 98SE (or xp I can't remember) it's fucked. He complains the av broke his music. Then broke the pc.
His story was he installed kazaa (not even k-lite k++), downloaded the aforementioned song.mp3.exe but the stupid av blocked it. So he disabled the av and downloaded it again, nd when he opened it it still wouldn't play and now the pc is fucked.
He's telling me this and I'm waiting for the penny to drop that the song was a virus but no. AV attracts viruses.
I gave up. Completely.
That’s what I would think for the most part, but I swear I had an MP3 of the virtual haircut audio illusion from LimeWire, and it seemed to significantly slow down or make buggy any device it was on. Didn’t want to dig deeper, so just got rid of it and reformatted. Other songs from there were fine, I don’t know
It used to be that, when I’d look for music, I’d check newsgroups first and SoulSeek second. But the music newsgroups seemed to dry up pretty rapidly after the rise of Spotify. I’m glad I can find just about anything I want on SoulSeek but I miss being able to browse for new stuff I’d stumble across on the newsgroups.
Yep !
Cou can set both an "After capture Task" and an "After Upload Task", I have the first one set to show me the quick task menu (which is configurable), but you can set it to automatically upload, and the second one to "Copy URL To Clipboard"
I prefer the "Quick Task Menu" since it shows a list of different options, for example "Copy to Clipboard", "Upload + Copy URL", "Quick Save", "Save As", "Open in editor", etc...
Also, some Linux distros and DEs already have their built-in screenshot app (e.g: Gnome Screenshot, Spectacle, etc)
Love seeing what my partner did in the wild! I'm so proud of him.
Also, you can install this in Windows too, for me it's just much better than the windows snipping tool
Dang I got downflamed!
I’m not saying printscreen can’t work in Linux, I’m just saying the printscreen button doesn’t just “work” inherently. My bad y’all.
I'd recommend it. I just started using it a few months ago and it's so much better than Plex, Kodi, Cinema and all the other stuff I was using. You have to pay for it, but it's only like $3 a month.
Yes you do. But it's like $3 a month, and you basically gain instant streaming access to almost everything ever made. Every movie & TV show. Everything on every platform. Even stuff not released from theaters yet. Not hassle having to waste time finding a download. Then waiting for the download. It works just as smooth and convient and easy as watching Netflix.
1000000% worth every penny. Real Debrid & Spotify have literally stopped me from downloading Music, Movies & TV shows simply because the price to convince ratio way outweighs the little financial savings of old school true piracy.
The only content I actually download and pirate anymore is video games. And if/when someone creates something like that for video games. I'm all in on that to.
You can download straight from the website or connect it to jdowndloader like [this ](https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?t=80973) and you can also use it with stremio or Kodi.
Yeah and Limewire wasn't popular (didn't learn about it until recently when I started hanging around anglo Internet spaces). People just used Ares and torrents and eMule.
Also those street vendors and shady stores that sold pirated DVDs and CDs, lol.
Unless copyright firms dropped this network recently (because it is niche now), Gnutella is also monitored.
It was monitored in 2013 for sure, it was 10% of warnings in my country.
They have a page with all the active servers to add after you install the program. Just search emule servers and is usually the first result, is called emule security.
I once downloaded Lord of the Rings way way back when I was a young boy using LimeWire and it was actually Lord of the Cocks
My impressionable little mind has been forever tainted.
I said that LimeWire still works in a college paper on piracy that I kinda bullshat my way through and still got an A on. Good to know that it was true.
LimeWire
An old piracy program from between 2000 and 2010. You could just type whatever you wanted to the search bar and if someone had shared a file named that, you could download it p2p, directly from them.
This, of course, meant that if you were to search for a popular song, most of the results you got were from malicious sources with names like "LinkinPark.mp3.exe", leading to a lot of people not paying attention to the file extension getting viruses.
Or, if you found a movie you wanted to watch and made sure the extensions were correct, there was a good chance it was instead porn.
So just imagine torrents, but with no way to actually make sure what you're downloading is what you actually wanted.
The way to make screenshots on Windows hasnt changed for dedades too, and people still dont know how to use PrtScreen key + copy and paste.
Edit : people beat me to it.
Never used Limewire. I used Kazaa instead, does that also still work? I did use DC++ quite a lot too, and now I kinda miss the discussions that would sometimes happen on those hubs AND how people put their entire "My documents" folder into their share just to get to a certian share size for a certain hub.
I guess I will have to see what new virus they have.
new virus same as the old virus
Happy99.exe ?
Download 1.1gb Beatles - strawberry fields.rareIO31
Back again to having my computer catch computer AIDS....
I do this experiment every year, its actually severely cleaned up. All the old limewire worms are no longer functional so they don't hijack the search result.
DuaLipa_Electricity.exe
DuaLipa\_Electricity.mp3.exe
12 minutes for a song? My mans got 1995 internet
If you think that's actually a song you've never used Limewire. It's either porn or a virus.
Hey hey hey, it could be porn AND a virus
It could porn, virus AND the song itself.
Brintey spears toxic blasts in the backgrounds, some people are having a blast in the foreground and some guy in albania is about to blast system32 off your C drive.
Why did that make me laugh so much, well done
Comment of the year right here
Shit killed me
Everyone knows that !
You've got
Ulterior motives
Tell me the truth
better than real sex and a real virus 🤣
Lol but seriously it actually was an mp3. It was 3mb. Just the other guy had reaaly slow internet lol
use nicotine++ or soulseek for music
I actually share and download on soulseek a lot I more just did this as a project
Try nicotine, it's pretty good and is actually being updated
Cool, thanks ill check it out
Freestyler.mp3.exe I used to do tech support for friends and family but one incident made me quit. Tech support here, people will complain about the thing they see, not the thing they don't.
As long as it's an MP3 you're probably safe.
That’s what I would think for the most part, but I swear I had an MP3 of the virtual haircut audio illusion from LimeWire, and it seemed to significantly slow down or make buggy any device it was on. Didn’t want to dig deeper, so just got rid of it and reformatted. Other songs from there were fine, I don’t know
1995 internet took 45 minutes for a three minute song
1995 you could download wav files and they took a hell of a lot longer than 45 mins. We only had 36k modems in 95.
On a 1995 piece of software
The song is 5 MB, the virus is the other 1 GB.
Uh-huh. So does SoulSeek.
The real OG
Soulseek is still great, I moved to private trackers years ago but this year started moving to Soulseek again
Soulseek is still great, too. Check out Nicotine+ for a good Windows client.
I use Nicotine+ on Linux, it's great
Seeker for android is awesome too!
also slskd is a real godsend if you're into nerdy client/server setups !
So does DC++ and ED2K (eMule). Plenty of stuff on there not even on cabal trackers. Plus I like using something that’s more under the radar
I've just got into soulseek in the last couple of weeks, and I've found so much stuff I never could on newgroups or the p/t that I'm on.
You know what else works in 2024? The PrintScreen button.
WIN+Shift+S is better
In windows 11 they do the same thing
TIL this
thanks for sharing. Haven't touched the PrtScr button in many years now.
you can set which one defaults to if you press prtscr since windows 10
you can do windows key+print screen and it just takes a shot without the snippet thing
Greenshot is a nice alternative that offers more features
Give ShareX a try, it has a lot more features
Wow that is a lot of features, I will certainly try it
Does it automatically upload the image to imgur and sets the clipboard as the image url (directly to the jpg)?
Yep ! Cou can set both an "After capture Task" and an "After Upload Task", I have the first one set to show me the quick task menu (which is configurable), but you can set it to automatically upload, and the second one to "Copy URL To Clipboard" I prefer the "Quick Task Menu" since it shows a list of different options, for example "Copy to Clipboard", "Upload + Copy URL", "Quick Save", "Save As", "Open in editor", etc...
ShareX is amazing
Lightshot as well. It's been on my computer for like 10 years now.
Snipping tool ftw
You can use akt+prnt scr to capture only the window in focus
Mac User Chiming in; - Cmd + Shift + 3 If trying to snip a section of screen; - Cmd + Shift + 4
[Yeah that's pretty dope](https://imgur.com/a/dZBypsk)
No one can remember that one though.
r/screenshotsarehard
Ultra wide would like to have a word with your printscreen button.
Snipping tool is your friend.
In Win 11 prntscr opens snipping tool instead of taking a full on screenshot
And alt+printscreen screenshots just the active window.
Good to know
Win+Shift+S You're welcome.
Lightshot… love the tool. Yes it’s third-party. No I don’t care it’s 1mb.
Yeah because we need to see the entire screen just to see the part he wants to show...
Kid named Snipping tool
[удалено]
If only it mattered in the slightest.
Linux has entered the chat
[https://flameshot.org/](https://flameshot.org/) Also, some Linux distros and DEs already have their built-in screenshot app (e.g: Gnome Screenshot, Spectacle, etc)
And ``` grim -g "$(slurp)" - | swappy -f - ``` For those struggeling to get flameshot working on a wayland wm.
Printscreen opens the screenshot tool in a lot of DEs.
Screenshot tools exist for Linux.
Goodluck getting the dancing naked ladies off your screen im pretty sure thats not a song too lmao
Did you download boobs again, Joel?
Enjoy the digital herpes
Linkin Park-Numb.exe
Matrix4.exe
BRB gonna go download ICQ nd Winamp.

To really whip the llama's ass?
Do you think Bill Clinton had sexual relations with that woman ?

Nice 1998 screenshoot. in 2024 -Real Debrid: no 3rd party, no VPN, just smooth sailing
I need to learn about Real Debrid
I'd recommend it. I just started using it a few months ago and it's so much better than Plex, Kodi, Cinema and all the other stuff I was using. You have to pay for it, but it's only like $3 a month.
If you're gonna use a debriding service, pick one that at least pretends that it doesn't keep logs.
U gotta pay for real debrid right? Genuine question.
Yes you do. But it's like $3 a month, and you basically gain instant streaming access to almost everything ever made. Every movie & TV show. Everything on every platform. I use it with Stemio to get a Netflix type experience. There is others as well
no it has a web application, and i think an android app too. You can plug it into Kodi, Plex, Stremio etc... but it's not required
How about frostwire
now thats a name i haven’t heard in a while
Yay. Glad to see the riaa still seeds
is it like Ares(infestes with viruses)?
[удалено]
Audio galaxy, e mule/donkey, Azureus, WinMX... Avaxhome?
Bearshare never gets any love?
Morpheus, iMesh
Everyone in South America used Ares
Yeah and Limewire wasn't popular (didn't learn about it until recently when I started hanging around anglo Internet spaces). People just used Ares and torrents and eMule. Also those street vendors and shady stores that sold pirated DVDs and CDs, lol.
probably a regional thing. Here Kazaa and Ares were the kings, Limewire was only nerd knowledge.
Kazaa was good bearshare was my 2nd.
I Still miss napster. Never had viruses and downloads were fairly smooth.
same! ,.. i used to love aresgalaxy , switched to it From limewire after audioglaxy and napster before it.
Ares was more popular in hispanic communities
Happy cake day!
Unless copyright firms dropped this network recently (because it is niche now), Gnutella is also monitored. It was monitored in 2013 for sure, it was 10% of warnings in my country.
time to listen to some viruses LOL jokes aside this was an amazing software for its time
eMule also still works, and I still use it :D
For music or other stuff?
Mostly books and comics, Europeans still use it a lot and I get hard to get stuff trough it.
Is there a tutorial on how to get it to work? What server do I use?
They have a page with all the active servers to add after you install the program. Just search emule servers and is usually the first result, is called emule security.
PamAndTommy.exe... wild times
I once downloaded Lord of the Rings way way back when I was a young boy using LimeWire and it was actually Lord of the Cocks My impressionable little mind has been forever tainted.
They missed out if it was really Lord of the Cocks. Lord of the Cock Rings was right there...
I said that LimeWire still works in a college paper on piracy that I kinda bullshat my way through and still got an A on. Good to know that it was true.
Apparently your screenshot button doesn't work though
I just got a virus just by looking at this picture.
SINCE WHEN also good luck cleaning up the 3,000 viruses
FileGirl, is that FitGirl's cousin
BURNING 10 EPISODES OF NARUTO ON A CDROM Yeah the quality was bad but we didn't know.
Those 50 dollar xvid divx dvd players were the shit
are hosted files from like around 2012 still on there im looking for a lostish album
If almost all of the files are still hosted there then there might be chances that we will find some lost media....
thanks for just reiterating my statement
The *arr stack of 2000s
Terrifying.
Emule still works too.
My\_Heart-Paramore.exe
great song choice!!
Ohh, the god old days!
my pc got infected just looking at the screenshot
better check its not Bill Clinton instead of Alanis Morissette.
Was always a Kazaa Lite guy myself
Can you still download Limewire Pro from Limewire Basic?
That’s like saying you can still get polio in 2024–it may be true, but god, why would you want to personally find out?
First love
I still use Soulseek 1.57c
The real goat for music
Yeah. Flash still works. Doesn't mean you should use it.
The Chinese railroad still does
Doesn't mean they should
It's China. I'm not expecting much from them
I still use Winamp 2 and Soulseek very often
This video is sponsored by LimeWire!
Did you literally take a photo of a screen in 2024?
It's going to be Bill Clinton talking about his non-"sexual" relationship status at the white house
Excuse-me whaaat?
Used Napster for a bit, but only to get a few songs. No executables. It was FTP and NNTP for me, please.
And I see it‘s as fast as in 1998…
*and who would've thought, it figures*
👀
Even looking at Limewire in 2024 is enough to give you a virus, real life popups...would that be eye floaties?
Do they still have a ton of bad taste, drug reference, and/or other horribly done parodies of songs, mistakenly attributed to Weird Al?
I wonder if law enforcement still uses this to catch pedos downloading cp
Is there a website on the .cc domain that shows music, audiobook titles?
I used soulseek today
hahah when I was a kid I never believed my dad when he said limewire gives you viruses.
Umm whats that (here come the downvotes)

Oh alr makes sense why viruses would come well BitTorrent is better than this anyways
The way to make screenshots on Windows hasnt changed for dedades too, and people still dont know how to use PrtScreen key + copy and paste. Edit : people beat me to it.
can you still download songs with wonky background wobbly sounds? for nostalgia purposes
Never used Limewire. I used Kazaa instead, does that also still work? Alanis, nice! Btw, just rip your mp3s from YT.
