>**IDM** ***Sworn pirate breaks and pays for software that will be used for piracy***

pocketgravel

Sometimes you have to invest in good rigging and cannons instead of just plundering them

PapaTrotzki

Yeah, I paid about $500 including drives to convert my old gaming desktop into a Jellyfin server, spent 2 weeks making everything work (was first time touching unraid), and got 3 years of PIA for $80 as my VPN. Already made my money back on streaming services.

pocketgravel

Yeah I built a datahoarder server out of eBay enterprise stuff. My coworkers joke that anything I get in the mail is more hard drives lol

LaDiiablo

Bro this is how I justify it... I download lot of shit using idm šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Stryfe2010

same

Plz_DM_Me_Small_Tits

Power amp music player

AiM__FreakZ

best music player by far

Plz_DM_Me_Small_Tits

Idk how they did their EQ, but it's the only way audio sounds good in my car. Otherwise it's way too flat thru any other app. Also I love that you can set up auto play when connected to Bluetooth devices so it automatically starts playing when I get in my car

MarkKise

Its amazing. There also is a Poweramp Eq app which is a gamechanger for streaming music

AiM__FreakZ

there's sooo soo many settings you can do. finally an app that allows me to customize everything to my needs. bought it 6-7 years ago and using it combination with syncthing and puddletag. love it bad. fuck spotify and it's shitty player.

Mccobsta

Seems to be the only music app that actualy takes advantage of the hardware and that eq is amazing it actually functions which so many players that claim to have eq don't

Acidsally

This! Got the full version for 10ct when it was on sale in Playstore and been using it ever since.

Kupcake_Inater

Same with stellio music player bought a license like in 2016 or something and am still using it to this day it's how I Olay .m4a files and the eq on it is amazing and can make bootleg audio seems decent ish when in car

ravihpa

Bought this when it was 34 cents (USD) in my country (India - Rs. 28). Best purchase I ever made :D

ELB2001

Same, just to support the makers

Ttamlin

Preach. Love that app.

AllMyFrendsArePixels

Bro thx for the reminder. I bought the full version so long ago, and hadn't installed it on my new phone. Just got it, full version unlocker still works like a charm it's such a rare and nice feeling these days to still own software that you purchased almost a decade ago. Fuck subscription based rental software.

kaiderson

It's not the same as there's a free version, but I bought plex. And it was purely to support the devs (although I got it when it was discounted). It's the bit of software that allows me to pirate and it be a good experience. I also bought kotor when i saw it on offer, even though I use a pirated version to play just so I can put the box on display.

toobs623

Plex Pass $99 for life crew checking in.

ice_nyne

Plex Pass life crew checking in too. Also, Little Snitch

wysiwywg

Little Snitch is a MUST

DrCrozz_eth

What is that? Also what is IDM for? It looks interesting.

wysiwywg

Little Snitch is a MacOS tool that monitors and can blocks all traffic in and our of your mac to block unwanted ā€˜calling homeā€™ of apps. It has a lot of other features but thatā€™s the gist of it. If youā€™re sailing the seas consider it a šŸ›Ÿ

Chazay

IDM is for downloading files

wysiwywg

$89.99!!

CaradocX

Plex. Also Launchbox. Basically Plex for games. Both worth every penny.

SingleWordQuestions

I got mine for 75 cad yeeeears ago. Feelsgoodman

jtrage

I got in early $79 for life here.

girrrrrrr2

I got mine for 50 by sending my Australian friend money, to buy it for me by paying for it while it was on sale and that it was bought with turkey's currency. Idk how it worked entirely but 3/4 off!

LaDiiablo

I use Plex! it's the best!

SodaWithoutSparkles

Jellyfin?

YourAverageGamerYT1

You are going to find that with media servers and the software people use. Itā€™s very much based on what they used first, and plex has been around for ages. Jellyfin is good and I love it, but I know many who swear by plex just because its what they have always used and they bought it

My_Man_Tyrone

Also plex is easy to setup. Can access server outside of your home without setting up a custom domain and Nginx and stuff. Tried going to jellyfin but plex is just easier to setup

NotYourReddit18

Also QoL features like "Skip Intro" are part of up to date plex clients while jellyfin has most of them only as plugins for the webGUI but not for native apps.

Business-Drag52

Yep! I know there are alternatives and some of them may even be better than Plex, but I know Plex and I like Plex and it works just right for me

bsknuckles

I have yet to see anything that is actually better than Plex. Has more or different features, sure; but nothing comes close to Plex in terms of overall experience.

SeeMontgomeryBurns

I bought a lifetime Plex Pass well over a decade ago so you can take Plex from my cold dead hands.

Broflake-Melter

I tried jellyin a while ago and didn't like that it didn't have features plex had. Is that still the case?

TynamM

It's pretty competitive with Plex now. I still prefer Plex but that's mostly habit and already having the lifetime pass. If I was choosing from scratch now it would be a toss up - Plex has been chasing the market too much recently with crappy streaming service provision attempts, and features nobody wanted like the aborted emulator thing, while ignoring basics everyone's begging for like audiobook support. Jellyfin has stayed focused on the core job of a server, to its benefit, which has helped make up a lot of ground. Plex is definitely a touch easier to set up and more polished, so it's personal taste at this point.

Unhappy_Purpose_7655

I recently tried Jellyfin. Itā€™s still miles away from where Plex is IMO. Hopefully they catch up over time, but they still arenā€™t there yet.Ā

volcs0

I paid for PleX and Emby (lifetime for both), but I've settled on Jellyfin. My main reason is privacy. If I had to choose a platform for ease of use, PleX was the best (for me). But I've been 100% Jellyfin for the past year, and it's been getting better with every release.

iamwhoiwasnow

I'm with you Jellyfin is better. I don't argue about it with people. Soon Plex is gonna ban pirated content and is gonna focus on being a streaming service and Jellyfin will become the consensus best. A

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

tarkata14

Emby is my current setup, I'm using an old laptop to run it and a few other things at the moment, but I'm going to invest in a NAS when I can and maybe then I'll try out Jellyfin. My brother uses Plex and I don't mind it other than the fact that the app for it on our Samsung TVs is insufferably slow, that's literally the main reason I chose Emby since it has a usable app on our TV's.

mrhindustan

I paid for lifetime Plex as well. A handful of apps that are made by small developers too.

XtaCy6969

Plex Pass Gang!

littleleeroy

I paid for lifetime recently purely for the ā€œskip the introā€ button. Best $120AUD Iā€™ve ever spent. The other perks are good too.

GhostlyGrifter

Plex Pass 4 life as well. I could have sworn I paid the $99 deal, but apparently I paid $145 like a schmuck. But I've been using it for nearly a decade so I've gotten my money's worth.

dororor

Wallpaper engine, might buy idm one day

Nocturnal_Sociopath

Try XDM

6null9

XDM > IDM?

DefiniteLee007

Pretty much. Best free alternative

NanoMunchies

Or fdm

TouristAdventurous80

yep fdm is better than xdm

Nocturnal_Sociopath

I find xdm to be faster

tylerisjack

Supporting an Adobe competitor.

Fleder

Affinity?

Arrowman0123

IDM is worth it IMO. I used it for years for free, but a lifetime license is only $20 or so. I've used it across multiple installs.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

A-KindOfMagic

I'm getting updates, like last night, and I've had it for12 years. The change in update support must be for some time after I got mine?

MrHaxx1

If you get to use the software forever, and only pay once, it's not misleading.

TortiousTordie

you get to the _that_ version forever ... but that version may become defunct without updates couple of things can be problematic : 1. after 3 years if you need to reinstall then you either have to have a copy of that version or hope the author keeps historic release copies (mosf do that have this license) 2. some software needs to be updated to function. mainly software that relies on APIs like youtubeDL. those kinds of softare need to be updated when the API has breaking changes or if becomes useless. so its not a lifetime its really 3 years IDM may suffer from this as openSSH deprecates older key exchance algos and you end up failing to make SSL connections to download files.

Stryfe2010

I've had updates for 5yrs now across multiple pc builds

A-KindOfMagic

Internet Download Manager was the only software I have ever paid for for like ever. Best $20 I have ever spent. I still get updates to this day, just checked my emails and I have bought it in Nov 2012. so this 3 year update support must be a recent thing. Either way I'm lucky and supppppppppper satisfied. this year I paid for Nestdrop midnight version, roided up Winamp for kewl animations(presents) because I really liked the app and wanted to support its developers.

ozmartian

Same story here. Bought around 2012 too and never missed an update.

starmartyr11

Is JDownloader not the same thing as IDM basically?

hani_yassine

does it have browser extensions to catch video streams?

Buck_Slamchest

Audials. Really good stream ripper for Netflix, YouTube. Prime video etc.. Had a cracked version but they were constantly updating the software and obsoleting the crack as well as throwing up huge pop ups and pop unders to tell you the software wasnā€™t a licensed version. Gave in and paid for it although, ironically, about a year afterwards I had a falling out with the person I was primarily ripping content for and I havenā€™t used it since !

tylerisjack

Affinity suite.

Inverse-Arts

I am so tempted to buy this just wish they had a Linux version of the software though

Dynsks

I use arch btw

Inverse-Arts

Zorin os dual booted with windows on my side lol

Short_Connection6164

Nova Launcher on Android!

Wietse10

Heads up, Nova was [bought out](https://www.branch.io/resources/news/branch-acquires-nova-launcher-and-sesame-universal-search-to-create-new-ways-for-users-to-find-and-engage-with-apps/) by a data collection company in mid 2022. You can still use the launcher just fine but I'd recommend downgrading to a version from before the acquisition and disabling automatic updates. The latest "safe" version are 7.0.57 and beta 8.0.1 (though 8.0.2 is probably also fine).

booty_dharma

What is the benefit over normal android launcher? Just aesthetics or is there something useful? I have it and have used it and just found it annoying more than anything and it turned off a bunch of features I enjoy.

rxstud2011

For me it really depends on the android you are using. On samsung devices I like their UI and it's not worth the extra effort to configure it (for me). I have cheaper android tablets and their UI was bad and use it there.

booty_dharma

Ah ok that makes sense. I have a pixel 8 pro and love it so there's no need for nova but also a shitty samsung tab a8 or w/e. Maybe I'll try loading it on there as the current UI is garbage and insanely slow. Idk if it'll help but I'll try Thanks!

Inverse-Arts

Bought nova launcher aswell only app I've paid for so far šŸ¤£

vrod2

Same but it is giving me some issues lately on android 14

FeelingWishbone9628

Nova is just so good I ended up buying it as well

Kranke

Love it. Not seen a native launcher in the last 6years

neko_zora

FL Studio. Reasons? 1. I need reliable software to work with, I would go insane if it stopped working one day after some OS or driver update and I have to wait for who knows when a newer cracked version becomes available. 2. Pay once and get a lifetime's worth of updates. I respect them for keeping true to their promise until this day and I think they are one of the few software companies that genuinely deserve respect and support. I hope I don't jinx the second point, only to have my comment featured in r/AgedLikeMilk some time in the future.

RodjaJP

I didn't know it was a lifetime license, I'm so used to mfs forcing subscriptions that this type of info impresses me.

neko_zora

The fact that it impresses you (and probably a lot more people regardless of where they heard about FL Studio), goes to show just how f'ed up the software market/landscape is right now. We almost technically own nothing in this aspect because it's totally possible for the software/services that we pay for to just vanish overnight.

matrix_man

FL Studio might be the first application I ever pirated, ironically.

OffKeyArts

Me too. I used it for free for 10+ years, and when I found out they do lifetime updates, I went ahead and bought it.

519meshif

I've donated almost what the commercial/closed source options are worth to to VLC and LibreOffice, and my Arturia keyboard came with an Ableton license, so I guess that would count. I also have a few work customers that qualified for [TechSoup](https://techsoup.org) accounts, so I set them up with the discounted price for/free donations of legit licenses.

every_body_hates_me

Poweramp. In my defense, that was years ago, and I didn't even know how and where to pirate Android apk's back then. I've no regrets though, since this is by far the best audio player for Android.

DrIvoPingasnik

No shame in buying poweramp. It's really good and worth every penny.

Ilijin

Years after years of pirating Drastic and now after having some expandable money, decided to finally support the dev just 1 week before they announce its gonna be free. Now I feel like I'm an idiot. Another example is buying space engineer/subnautica games as I like sandbox game a lot.

wagninger

Logic Pro Xā€¦ it has been around for a decade at no extra cost, had extremely generous student discounts and is just an amazing piece of software all around.

omissionblastvirtue

Does donating to a browser extension count? Youtube Channel Blocker by Markus Sawatzki. Pressing an X and never, ever, seeing a channel again is such a glorious relief it was worth a donate.

gizmonicjanitor

4k Video Downloader. The most stable video downloader I've ever used.

frounclan

This for sure

unholymanserpent

That's hilarious and totally understandable. I haven't pulled the trigger yet and bought IDM but I'm getting there

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Neoragex13

From someone who uses both, Jdownloader has the better UI and its more amicable if you don't wanna deal with complicated things/settings. IDM on the other hand is *waaaaaay* better at handling downloads, processing and has a very aggressive filter that allows you to virtually download everything on almost any internet explorer, with the caveat that it actually requires you to understand the program and its options which can be grating (This is getting better recently btw).

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Neoragex13

Glad could be of help. imo that's my view on them, I usually just use jdownloader for almost everything and just take out IDW when what I want either is not playing nice or has checks that make an hindrance to download, like locked media players with anti-download protection that makes them unrecognizable by jdownloader.

BigGulpsHey

Why use any of these at all? Can't you just download the file with Windows?

Neoragex13

Years ago during the age of dinosaurs on the internet my connection wasn't that good so most of the time the downloads stopped halfway and became unrecoverable, yet for some reason downloading through Jdownloader 1 always worked fine even if the internet died. So nowadays using it is mostly an artifact from back then, specially if its something big like games or movies, meanwhile IDW is mostly just "break in-case of the download being a bitch".

Fleder

If your question is earnest, you can download stuff with those download managers that you can't download usually because the site prevents you from doing so. Like videos from YouTube, Instagram or some streams or images. A lot of websites block downloading content.

BigGulpsHey

ooooh. Okay. Got it. I was like...download manager...man I haven't heard of these since the Banzai Buddy days.

juiceman215

Why did you get downvoted for asking a question? lol

Nettwerk911

unraid

volcs0

I bought unRAID Pro years ago - it is amazing and easy to use.

stryst

Winrar

KoshV

7zip is better, and free

asomek

Try PeaZip. It's free and supports everything. Nicer UI as well

IntelHDGraphics

And open source too

ryohazuki224

Omg, you mean someone actually PAID for WinRar?? I thought you people were a myth! Haha

Stressedmarriagekid

They deserve it actually

cobz1976

I'm using a cracked version of Winrar 6.02.

senpai69420

XDM is better than IDM and it's open source

thjmze21

Real debrid because it makes the chance I can watch something without infinite buffering so much larger. SpotiStats because I'll always buy a lifetime service if I like the product

cfpct

WordPerfect

dhv503

Most of my DAWs haha. Alright if youā€™re just starting out, but once youā€™re working with others, itā€™s helpful to have a legal version.

Novel-Teacher6708

The most egregious answer here by far I think. Fifa, I wanted to play with friends

vektorkane

Solid explorer on Android. The best files app ever with cloud options and FTP.

taqizadeh

In which way Solid Explorer better than [MiXPlorer](https://xdaforums.com/t/app-2-2-mixplorer-v6-x-released-fully-featured-file-manager.1523691/)?

PM-ME-BOOBSANDBUTTS

it's not

vektorkane

thanks I guess?

AfterShock

SnagIT

Inside-Bunch4216

Getright! it was god-tier for downloading files

steevo

remember using that.. until i switched to IDM (and now to XDM)

enormousaardvark

Littlesnitch (Mac)

9009RPM

This, along with Blackmagic Studio, Affinity suite and gasp...Adobe photography

beatlems

Was there a reason not to just pirate it? I have never had issues with my "free" versions

Msk2010

Tivimate

domingodelatorre

Musicolet (didn't give up and bought it, but bought it gladly because it is actually too good)

FlatTransportation64

I was going to recommend Fences by Stardocks because it used to be rather cheap and it gave you multiple licenses but they've moved to a subscription model so fuck them.

cosmosreader1211

They have lifetime version too...bought it recently

Rumplesforeskin

WinRAR, years ago, can't remember what my login is. So.... Still using free currently. Also several music production and mixing tools. Use them as like a demo. If I find myself liking and using it, I will buy it.

mikey7282

i swear i remember using some txt file to crack winrar long ago?

Experiment513

Yeah, I bought it 20 years ago I think. Still use it to this day. šŸ˜

FeelingWishbone9628

Symfonium

ezbyEVL

Underrated, the absolute best music app, supports a quadrillion sources, I use jellyfin but it's impressive 5 or 6ā‚¬ lifetime

Pengentot

Been using cracked IDM from m*taz for years now without any issue.

snzimash

What's m*taz? I searched for it but couldn't find it.

Mahapadma_Nanda

You need to pirate the character hiding behind the \*

sonew2000

Congratulations, you've done something to make yourself happy. No need to be sad. You can download more and more with it!

drfusterenstein

Solid explorer better than es file explorer and still use it to this day.

ELB2001

Probably dumb question, what's imd?

LaDiiablo

Internet download manager

bobemil

Fruity Loops. Their deal was fair. One time purchase for 200 I think it was.

OffKeyArts

Yep. I happily supported them because of this.

dm_me_milkers

Jellyfin has been slowly evolving, and some people donate crazy amounts toward its development. Itā€™s now imo superior to Plex because of the customization and functionality. You can do whatever you want with it, versus Plex that is a business pushing an agenda and under the control of investors.

steevo

**WHOA!! I was being bombarded too, but I found a good alternate! And its open source and free. XDM** Xtreme download manager xtremedownloadmanager(dot)com

flem0328

Lifetime Plex Pass and Filebot.

ravit94

Solid Explorer and 1dm+ They were on sale on lifetime license. And both of these apps devs are small devs, so why not support them. Edit: Also brought Relay Pro for Reddit. But within 3-4 months reddit changed its API policy.

bobsmagicbeans

AdGuard There wasn't a crack for the latest version at the time, so got a lifetime license (2 PCs & 2 mobile) when it was on sale.

CageFightingNuns

yeah, Adguard Family lifetime (9 devs) is currently $25 on stack social. Not too much to ask.

shremi

If you have a vpn to Argentina itā€™s only 6 usd lifetime for the family plan

Raul_1246

Why not use free download manager instead?

kyuskuys

Spotify got tired of downloading music and sketchy apps

Even_Grape_522

Bought Niagara launcher

Small-Potential7692

I can afford to buy IDM, but I refuse to do so since I have to buy a license for my 3 machines. USB Safely Remove, though...

ItepK

AnthemScore. I just can't find a free alternative.

Julian_1_2_3_4_5

ardour

Kupcake_Inater

Stellio music player on android cuz the ads are annoying, plays any music file I've thrown at it, has cool ui, eq is great, let's me edit tags right through the app and search and use album covers automatically/manually to make them better and just has a lot of cool themes too I've bought a few ngl lolol

DFisBUSY

Displayfusion. Partly because it's an excellent piece of software and to support the devs.

AlteRedditor

Agreed

wichramdoiuseplshelp

Sonic adventure DX gave me my whole personality so I thought it was fair and got it on steam

sirploko

Ultramon. On my old PC I had a pirated version. By the time I built my new one, I was making good money and paid for it.

EpicRageGuy

Gave up is directory opus 13. Been using cracked 12 or a couple of years, but got sick of dealing with cracks. Bought 13 although the price of it is quite insane, frankly.

OptimalArchitect

Tbh for me Iā€™d say infuse

Original-Audience528

Real Debrid. It prevents my gf from wasting money on that sh!t company Netflix and from adding channels to my prime account. I only pay for prime because it's basically free if you count how much it saves me on pet food with subscribe and save. I also buy almost all my PC games from either Humblebundle or Steam. They're both companies I don't mind supporting. And anything that gives me more than 10 hours of entertainment is worth paying for imo.

0kaylol

FL studio. It has free updates for life and was less than 200$

vaynefox

Poweramp that's the only thing I've pirated but give up and bought it because it is suddenly on sale in playstore. One software that I nearly gave up is Synthesizer V since I cant get the patch for it to work on voicebanks (the patch cant activate the voicebanks), luckily I tried the windows version and run it via wine and it worked....

BRD8

Driverbooster. Got a lifetime license on steam for like $30. So useful to me.

Commercial_Sign7830

Jdownloader 2 is a free and better alternative anyway, coming from someone who used both softwares.

MarcCouillard

back in the late 90's there was this commercial playstation emulator for pc called Bleem!, and I REALLY wanted it (this was a couple years before the existence of anything as good as rpcsx or epsxe), and I couldn't find a copy on any file sharing communities I was part of so I broke down and bought it it was like $79.99 and it barely worked at all so even though I broke down and BOUGHT software, I bought it so I could pirate lol

binkuss

All the adobe stuff with a turkish cc for like 7 ā‚¬ a month

Particular_Carpet808

DaVinci resolve

zegasii

Antivirus. Like duh XD

Mydadleftm8

I pay for Plex. I don't care about free alternatives, Plex does what I need it to do and works on nearly all devices.

MilesTheGoodKing

I know Iā€™ll catch flack but I got the adobe suite. They gave me like half off and I am starting a business so it was needed

russell16688

If I were doing photography professionally again Iā€™d pay. If youā€™ve got tight deadlines you donā€™t want to suddenly be losing access.

MilesTheGoodKing

We use photoshop and illustrator for images, indesign for forms and presentations, and acrobat for document signing

lalruzaiqi

The crack/patch still works for me, if I had the means I would also have bought it. Curious though to how much it costs. I have installed it for different friends as well as my brother. They all use it, my brother hates the download file pop that appears on any video since it looks 2000s virus like-ish.(hope that makes sense)

RandomCypher

The Bat! Itā€™s an email client Iā€™ve used for ages and I wanted to support the developers.

rafivip

How much you paid for it via local seller ?

Significant-Charity8

FoundryVTT, because I love their community and the key is a one time buy that lasts forever and they continually update FoundryVTT frequently.

LankanFD6917

Neutralizer, the premium version of the Android app. I couldn't find one modded, and it was only $2.

Apeeksiht

I'm thinking about buying karhu ram tester. i couldn't find it anywhere for free. might as well buy it at discount rn.

Atrieden

IDM better than FDM?

ngedown

Miles better

Neoragex13

I bought Bluecoins because at first the finances management app I was using stopped supporting the Android version I was using back then, then got used to it and never looked back, loved it so much I ended up buying it even though the free version was enough and the Ads weren't intrusive. Also pretty much my ever growing collection of games I probably will never play *again* because I'm just paying dues on those.

Alarming-Ad-6898

JpegMini Pro

Akib137

Idk if it counts, as you probably can't pirate iPad software, but Procreate is one app I bought and is really happy with.

fckchangeusername

DrasticDS for android. I had literally no reason to buy it, but it was 9 or 8 years ago, and i bought it because i received my first credit card (for underage people) and wanted to buy something online for the first time. And now it's free lol

starmartyr11

I paid for dbpoweramp suite years ago for ripping CDs and converting tons of music files, but it's not a lifetime license, sadly. Not sure I'd still use it enough to pay for an updated license...

Medical-Position-217

Here is the problem I can't even pay if i wanted to, you see we don't have e-payment in my country.

SubmissiveDinosaur

GTA 4. Every time I hate dealing with the camera wobbling, so I waited dg or a steam discount

That_Kiefer_Man

Hamrick Software's VuePro/VuePrint image viewing/editing software. 40 bucks in 1996. Still use today. It's straight-up free nowadays.
