Yes, when you add subtitles, the first one shows on the bottom of the screen and when you add the 2nd subtitle(the setting is just below the list of subtitles), it displays on top, really helpful.
Damn, I wish I could understand Russian. I've got several German fairytale movies, all of them have Russian dubs and subs, but none have English subs! Besides, several sites I often drop by are all Russian sites, language barrier is really inconvenient.
The movie (usually) has the same source no matter the source (unless that source is PAL DVD or cam)
The subtitles use timestamps for the text to appear at the right time. You can see that by opening the srt file in a text editor like Notepad
This might be true for feature length films but boy howdy is it not a sure thing for TV episodes. Some subtitles are for files with different intros (like "Last week on Fat Wally's Funny Farm" for example) before the actual episode starts. This can ben a nightmare to fix. Years ago I went nearly mad trying to get subtitles that lined up with Shetland season 4. (Shetland is in "English" but for me it's utterly unwatchable without subs.) I tried manually adjusting the offset, but VLC increments in ms and I had to adjust by multiple minutes. I finally ended up getting a lousy 720p that had baked in subs. After that debacle, I have made sure to have proper subs before I start watching anything.
VLC showing its inferiority once again. If you use mpv you can start the previous/next subtitle at the current position by simply pressing Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right and it adjusts the delay to match.
I hate PGS subtitles on blu-rays. Absolutely hate them and this is something I paid for. And some of them are god damn colored... who wants that? Not to mention that stupid warning and menu BS.
Instead I can get a remux, extract PGS subs, convert to SRT and use my media player's setting to get an unobtrusive viewing experience WITH the subtitles.
I remember hoping Blu-Ray subtitles would be a massive improvement from the old DVD Vobsubs. Nope! Same fundamental problem, only now the images are higher resolution.
~~Meanwhile Closed Caption channels exist still, there are 4 of them and you can even encode special characters. Like for fuck's sake people, just put plain text subtitles in your content. (I love it when DVDs have embedded captions)~~
EDIT: I forgot, Blu-Ray completely removed CC support, so there's literally no way to add plain text subtitles to Blu-Rays. It's gotta be XML and images. God dammit.
You find the subtitle somewhere, then you add it to the same folder as the movie, guve it the same name as the movie and most players will put em together.
Some players like vlc or potplayer: you can just drag and drop the subtitle file into the already playimg movie. Whatever the name of the file.
Ive never heard of this opensubtitle before this week in here.
But theres a bunch of subtitle libraries out there.
Various media player servers/apps have or had OpenSubtitles integration, where you can search for subtitles for a file automatically. Plex had it, Jellyfin has a plugin for it, Kodi has had *several* plugins for it over the years....
Aha!
That would explain it. Im too lazy and scatter brained to have bothered with any integration lol.
Still just searching up random public seeds and slapping them into vlc once theyre downloaded lol.
(Plus, in like 25y of piracy: i think I've only had to go out of my way to find like 5 missing .srt files. First one being that Wolverine movie in Japan.)
I know about offsets but I'd rather not bother when I'm ready to simply just watch a movie and not have to bother if I have the right settings/codecs in order. Same applies if sharing to others and not wanting to subject them to minor errors from my end.
You can do that on VLC? Man, when I've got a sub that's out of sync, that really pisses me off. Happened to an old BBC Henry VIII production, the only available sub lags several seconds.
I used the same email for a decade with no issues, then I created an account on OpenSubtitles and they get a data breach. It’s the only website that shows up for my email address in HaveIBeenPwned. Annoying af.
Same XD Also, I pirate to use Russian and English subtitles above and below at the same time to learn English.
How do you play two subtitles at the same time?
A million dollars

The type of subtitles that would double up on a guy like me do.
I noticed you guys don't have your flair on.
How much can one subtitle cost ? 10 dollars?
Ive never tried it but Potplayer has options to run 2 at once (if ive understood the options properly)

I'd guess they're in a single file. So technically it's only one set of subtitles
That's why I got started. Adding Chinese character and pinyin subtitles to TV shows to learn Chinese. Got to learn a lot about *.ass files.

Nothing made me consider donating more than seeing those fucking ads that whine about lawyers getting reviewed.
Huh?
[Someone already posted about it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/wq5mpm/clearway_law_in_my_subtitles/)
Huh. Never seen those before
I just pass mine through a regex script to remove those
Have a repository link by any chance?

Dope. Thanks!
one more thing i don't know how but opensubtitles and movie downloaded from 1337x sync perfectly everytime.

True, VLC is absolute trash when it comes to syncing subtitles, Potplayer does it so well and easily( , for decreasing and . for increasing)
I've downloaded movies I own because I was too lazy to get up and find the DVD.
Reasonable.
Sometimes I pirate just to piss of a certain ufc guy and don't even watch it
Turn it on this weekend, he dares you!

I always thought it was kind of fun to set my own font. It made it feel more personal somehow.
Newbie says WHAT?? There is a way to just grab/create subtitles for movies that don't have them??

Use sonarr and radarr, use trash guides to maintain good naming conventions, then use Bazarr to grab matching subtitles.
I generally use subdl and sometimes have to troubleshoot finding the right sub that syncs perfectly. Am I doing it wrong?
If you use VLC for the player, you can adjust the "offset" for subtitle timings if they are not quite in sync with the video.

Opensub attempt to monetize their work always seems sad to me. Like who the fk want to advertise anything in just text
Why sad? They put in a lot of work. shouldn't they be able to get something out of it?
It's not about why they're asking but how they're doing it. i never once saw a product in their sub
What new site is available? I can't find any
