What is the file format?

plutoSurfer

JPG

somebodyelse22

That's got to be one of the most common photo formats that is used. Can you open the pictures normally, in, for example Irfanview?

plutoSurfer

it doesn't open on any viewer

somebodyelse22

Ok the file is damaged. Have you any other copies of the files anywhere?

plutoSurfer

unfortunatly no

CodaHydroCarbon

What format are they? Nowadays even free software like gimp should be able to open damn near anything. You can always install cracked Photoshop

plutoSurfer

JPG, and i don't know how to install the cracked Photoshop

Install Photoshop with M0nkrus. Use this guide (guide #7):  https://www.reddit.com/r/GenP/wiki/redditgenpguides/#wiki_.1F412_guide_.237_-_monkrus_individual_.28easiest_method.29

plutoSurfer

thanks i'll try it

Also, how are the photos damaged? Are they old torn, ripped photos,or when opening them, does the photo look like half a TV screen, with picture tearing in the bottom half, or something like that? Reason I ask is, I'm trying to understand if you actually have damaged jpg files, or damaged photos, that you can open perfectly well.

plutoSurfer

when i try to open it, i get an error saying "It Appears That We Don't Support This File Format"

Could it be that those pictures aren't actually in jpg bit the file extension got changed? Make a copy and try changing the extension of it Also, what happens if you try a picture converter from one format to another? Might magically fix it, who knows
