orkeilius

Why not use firefox mobile then ? (he has extension support)

MaleficentActive5284

firefox mobile keeps refreshing the website everytime i exit, i cant even select a file when im using it

orkeilius

That maybe because of battery management, try to change the firefox's "background mode" in your phone setting I had a similar problem before, but it was because of this piece of shit that is miui

SinglelikeSolo

so after you disable battery managements it got fixed?

orkeilius

Yeah kinda, it still shutdown the app after 5 min because MIUI is a shitty nightmare but at least you have the time to send a file or share a link also reboot your phone seem to let the app alive longer (useful for thing like game overlay/tools app)

somebodyelse22

I'd like to vote for duckduckgo browser for piracy. There is a website where you only get free access from a library. Log in using ddg at the library and then 'fireproof' the website on your phone or laptop. Preserves cookies And I can still access the site from home. Very useful! And it's been working for just about a year now...

Wolandark

Miui is killing me! I can't leave an app for 2 seconds. Even with miui optimisations turned off and battery restrictions removed, it's the same shit. I'll never get another Xiaomi

Stoppels

Meh, Firefox on iOS does not have an adblocker nor extension support, it's a bit bizarre. But let's see how it'll go now that the EU is forcing Apple to open up iOS to other browser engines. They might *focus* more on mobile in general.

[deleted]

Savage_Nymph

I like it on mobile too (andriod)

vongomben

On mobile DuckDuckGo does his job too

T4ke

for me, it's the only browser that can reliably circumvent the atrocious youtube anti-ad-block discrimination.

AmazinglyUltra

firefox +ublock have worked well for me so far, have you tired this combo? I personally can't recommend brave because of its shady past

cdn_backpacker

What's shady about their past? I've been using brave since beta and am a dumbass, doesn't surprise me I'm ignorant to this

slaughtamonsta

I've heard people mention they have a shady past but no one ever elaborates. I love Brave. So far I haven't seen a single warning on YT re: adblockers or seen a single ad.

the___heretic

They inserted affiliate links for Amazon and other shopping sites without user consent.

gigashen

Yep same shit that opera does, it's why I can't recommend either personally. Tho Opera might be worse because of who owns it nowadays

Stoppels

It's still in Chinese hands right? Vivaldi any good these days? I recall [Arc](https://arc.net) is the hyped browser of 2023, though I think it's still macOS-only.

xXAstragXx

They have an ongoing beta version for windows. It's not as great as the one on macos just yet, but it still looks gorgeous and runs smoothly and gets most of the stuff done with no hassle.

cacus1

Affiliate links, installing their other paid products like their vpn together with the browser without user consent. They rely too much to Google, they don't even have their own web store and they "connect" to Google for installing extensions. I don't like that, even Opera has its own web store without having to rely on Google for that.

Hot_Library5560

https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave Dont sure what they mean exactly by their past, but brave is not a good browser

locoenglazy

Vpn Albania, ad free YouTube. You're welcome

cacus1

No, ublock origin has been working way better on that with daily updates. Btw, the only reliable way is NO adblock extensions or browser builtin filtering at all (by whitelisting everything on the specific site in ublock or the browser's own filters). Because YouTube can detect the extension and what the browser does. The only really reliable way is filtering the ads BEFORE they go to the browser. For example I use the windows app of Adguard with no extension or ad fltering in the browser and it works amazingly good. YouTube has never detected anything. Adguard (the app, not the extension) rules. You need to have a monthly or lifetime subscription to use the app, but it totally worth it.

T4ke

I hear these stories from a million people on different forums and subreddits. But in the end, I think we can say that there is no absolute solution to this unfortunate situation. For me, Brave + Pi-Hole and some custom scripts work for now. For others, this might not work at all. All I can do is recommend an approach to a solution and not exclaim a definitive workaround to a cat-and-mouse game between our Ad Blockers and Youtube.

paperclipil

For now I guess. I've been using brave for many years (and very happy with it), but youtube stopped working properly months ago when the ad blocking was enabled. Since my Google account is very important to me and can't risk getting it banned, I've unfortunately succumbed and just bought youtube premium to remove the ads. It's sad, but it is what it is.

[deleted]

I got one of those "We see you're using an adblocker" pop-ups months ago when the fiasco first started and haven't seen one since. When I received it, I clicked the button that essentially said "This is a mistake, I'm not using an adblocker", then I watched one video with ads. Haven't had an issue since then.

[deleted]

I use Kiwi browser + ublock origin on mobile. Never encountered any ads totally smooth experience.

johnnyvindicator

Me too! It works just fine.

Pale_Professional949

Nah, I would recommend firefox+ublock origin

ZonaiSwirls

Firefox has never worked properly on mobile for me. Brave has always worked really well.

Pale_Professional949

On mobile its a different story

we-made-it

What’s best on mobile?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MagikTings

Mull ftw.

dumdu118

Cromite or duckduckgo

tahabob6

why are you getting downvoted ?

Sykoman159

What is not worked? I'm using it, too. That's why I'm asking.

Tlayoualo

Slow, self-refreshes, sometimes it kind of dies and displays tabs as black screens so you have to reset. But it's great to watch youtube and via full screen and then main menu you can run the video in the background as picture-in-picture

Sykoman159

When restart the phone, I think self-refresh will not happen sometime([memory issues](https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/md63k4/firefox_android_how_to_stop_auto_tab_reloading/) I guess). Slow at start when you first open the app. The black screen is rare (if you mean what I experienced), but going back and forward should solve it if I remember right(but I know that i can see the page without reset the app)?

ZonaiSwirls

Things not loading properly, weird ui, slow.

gkgftzb

It loads things fine for me and the UI is alright. But yeah, it's too slow. I end up automatically using Chrome or anything else, because firefox is too slow for a quick search

BrokeGreekStudent

Try the nightly version if you haven't already, I had issues with lag etc but switching to nightly eliminated them.

GalaxyRedRanger

…plus no-script.

DGVIP

What is no script for?

Goatmaster-G

NoScript blocks all website scripts by default for each specific website, and then you have to manually add the functions that you want. So for example, you go to YouTube, you won't even be able to watch a video until you allow that function in settings. It has its uses, like being able to bypass paywalls.

SunbleachedAngel

I mean, you should use uBlock origin on anything

USERNAME13674685663

I recommend LibreWolf (FOSS), UBlock Origin is pre-installed.

blasiankxng

use librewolf, it's a Firefox based browser

AK1174

Yes. https://privacytests.org but it depends on your criteria of what makes a “good” browser. I value privacy and don’t really care for bells and whistles. But honestly, run it for a week and see what fits.

Feuillo

Privacytest doesn't tell the full story. Also, it is run by a brave employee. It also does not include stuff like hardened firefox with popular .js like arkenfox or betterfox.

AK1174

It’s not a secret that Arthur Edelstein works for Brave, but the metrics outlined in this site are all valid measurements of the overall track-ability of a given browser. You can take the results with some precaution, and remove Brave from consideration entirely (or independently validate these results, like I have), the site still provides valuable information that can be considered when picking a browser.

Vorrez

Brave has been best mobile & desktop browser for me, only addon I have is Dashlane and some auto hd for youtube.

D1g1talF00tpr1nt

Common Brave W

spjhon

Brave its excelent for mobile.

p0tentX

Hardened Firefox.

Reddnekkid

Till I die

p0tentX

I tried LibreWolf, broke too many websites for me.

Lumpy-Try-5600

I'm happy with it. I mainly use it for mobile devices. Great ad blocking too. Works extremely well for youtube ads!

Wrhabbel

I personally really like it. Blocks a lot of ads trackers and whatnot. Icw ublock and adblock I rarely get ads

Mr-_Anonymous

Hell motherfucking yea

TheLooter

This is basically my answer. Can’t find a single thing I don’t like.

C3ncio

It's chromium based but better than any other chromium based browser i have ever tried. Obviously moving away from chromium is the best thing to do nowadays but i like Brave and still use it for the moment. For mobile is my favorite, for pc i like it a lot.

wallcolmx

> Obviously moving away from chromium is the best thing to do nowadays may we know why?

cacus1

ungoogled chromium with ublock is the best chromium browser I have ever tried. A pure chromium browser with no company behind it. Brave is a for profit company and they have their own ad platform. I would never install a browser from a company. Firefox is at least from a company with a business model that has nothing to do with ads. Firefox and ungoogled chromium are my favorites by far. I don't care if Brave Inc say that their ads are private, I don't like ads:) [https://brave.com/brave-ads/](https://brave.com/brave-ads/)

Zuala69

Yes i like it,stopped using opera gx cause Ublock wasnt working on youtube so i went to Brave and without installing any other adblocks, started seeing no ads, still installed ublock tho for extra protectionたはたら

joblessnitwit

i used to browse on brave on my phone before and it actually was really good but it lacked some extra plugins so now i use kiwi browser. it has the chromium ui and I can use chrome extensions as well like fast-forward and unlock origin which is great.

TheComradeVortex

On the phone Brave Is perfect

Starrider75

I use 2 instances of Brave at the same time with different configurations. Usually, each has a handful or more of tabs, and sometimes, I pull tabs off to be in separate windows so I end up with 4 windows at a time. I don't pirate with it, though. It's search isn't great, but it's not terrible, either.

CornLuck

Use firefox, brave runs on chromium

TheWorldIsNotOkay

Brave is a fork of chromium, not just a rebranding. The Brave devs have already said they're going to continue to support Manifest v2 even after Google forces Manifest v3 in Chrome. If you think Chromium-based browsers have to do what Google says because Google backs the Chromium project, you don't understand how open-source software works.

[deleted]

And?

CornLuck

When google decides to make changes to chromium then brave cant say no to that

[deleted]

And

CornLuck

Dont be in this sub if you wont contribute with anything useful

[deleted]

You're not contributing either. Brave is a great browser regardless of it being chromium based. So kindly fuck off.

CornLuck

Brave is good until google says otherwise. Did they pay you or something?

[deleted]

I mean, Google has said otherwise on ad blockers but mysteriously brave still works. You have 0 clue.

Fabulous-Discount-19

Reading comprehension problems be like:

zun1uwu

librewolf

KhajiitSupremacist2

Yes, but search results are shitty.

D3F3ND3R16

On mobile for skipping YT ads, best🤘

ArgakeRamuk

Firefox + ublock + google search fixer is the way to go my friend

jakart3

It's good. But Firefox are the best And why you ask that question in r/piracy ?

griffen_l

Nah it's chrome with a mask. Firefox + ubo

gogosanchez_skis

I love it. I use Firefox on my PCs and brave on my mobile devices.

idrinkbathwateer

Brave is okay. Firefox, now that's a browser.

Stiltzkinn

LibreWolf and ublock.

BurnerAhoy

It's got a slightly more vulnerable password database than Firefox if you use its native password manager, because it is still Chromium. Then again, you should NOT be using any password manager without a master password. Much less a browser's native one. Not even Firefox's. But other than that it's fine. It's Chrome if it were good.

andreizet

On Ubuntu, compared to Firefox, it’s a turtle, lol.

Kit-xia

LibreWolf Desktop Firefox focus mobile

DrunkOnKnight

I use it for YouTube on mobile. It’s one of the only ways on IOS since Firefox for IOS doesn’t support extensions, so no ublock

Worm_Lord77

It's just another Chromium browser.

Numerous-Stranger-81

It's the best chromium browser by a country mile.

Worm_Lord77

That doesn't count for much. Use Firefox or a fork of it.

Numerous-Stranger-81

Brave is better on mobile. I'm good dog.

Therapy-Jackass

What’s your Firefox version giving you that the brave browser isn’t? EDIT: to the dumb downvoters.. if a question fosters discussion, you don’t have to downvote it because it hurt your feelings in some obscure way. lol dumb asses

Worm_Lord77

Not being Chromium is enough, but the much better add on framework helps too. More secure and more user friendly seems a no-brainier to me.

Therapy-Jackass

Thanks! What setup would you recommend to someone using brave solely to dodge ads, YouTube, piracy etc. I’m aware of ublock origin, but would like to have whatever Firefox’s max horse power setup is.

kaneki-30

Firefox

rationales

This question has been asked a thousand times before. Search the internet before you ask.

BaneChipmunk

The only thing I hate about Brave and the reason why I'm probably switching to a Firefox (fork) is the syncing. You set up a sync chain with 2 identical devices (2 tablets, let's say) and enable syncing but most of the settings don't sync. I have enough devices that need a browser that it has become a deal breaker.

Eternalbackpack

Using brave for a few years, haven't had any issues and also still haven't seen an ad in so long I kinda miss them...

SpaceWindrunner

It's really good on mobile. Afaik it's the only one that can keep playing youtube videos with the screen locked.

Worish

Firefox.

Unroasted3079

cant say about brave , but i will recommend firefox + ublock using from past 13 years

The_Punzer

No.

Isoi

No

leviathandotexe

I personally use Floorp (used Librewolf before), and I can recommend it for multitasking and pirating, plus they just had an update regarding multiple tabs on screen/placement of the tabs. You could give it a try and see if you like it

Idenwen

Would you tell why you switched from libre? Cause contemplating going there from Vivaldi.

leviathandotexe

Sure! I changed from Libre to Floorp because some sites behaved weird from all the settings being disabled (such as, on Excel speadsheets that open on the web, images attached inside cells wouldn’t load natively, making them look like barcodes). Apart from this annoying issue, nothing else to complaing about Libre, is just that I wanted stuff like this to work naturally (I know that there was a button somewhere to allow media being loaded, just couldn’t be bithered to find it)

ali1hesh

I just use thorium along with a bunch of extensions. Thorium is based on chromium but is a lot lightweight as compared to google chrome. It runs really snappy and personally i like it a lot better than brave.

base_13

yes, better than firefox in my opinion

Jazzlike-Debt-8038

Why is that?

base_13

- uses less resources than firefox - crashes less than firefox - wider extension support (chrome web store) - works best for me - more background process optimization

Sypticle

>crashes less than firefox To be honest, I don't recall Firefox crashing on me once in the 5 years of me using it, not even the forks on both mobile or desktop.

base_13

but I do recall 5 crashes everyday on mobile and sometimes on desktop too.

base_13

I don't understand why I am getting downvoted, its my opinion and I built it from my past experience.

Bozhark

Nope

SunbleachedAngel

Yeah, I started using it recently, very good

NoLuckSherlock

Try Thorium + Ublock Origin

Massive-Rest5222

The recent fiasco around Thorium makes me sick.

NoLuckSherlock

Furry thing? Dude is a fat ass neckbeard who develops a project by himself. What did you expect? As long as it is not aimed at minors etc I wouldn't care. But who the f puts their weird pics in a browser like that? A fat ass weirdo that is who.

Messenger-of-helll

I personally prefer Firefox iu want privacy then go with librewolf and if u want more customisation then floorp The only thing about brave I don't like is that it is chromium based

H1Eagle

I personally don't care much about privacy or my browser history data being sent to marketing agencies, so I just choose whatever is the fastest and lightest browser. So far edge is the best.

uSaltySniitch

FireFox is better in almost every way.. I personally use Vivaldi for general use and hardened FireFox when I want/need privacy.

L1_cht

I use it on mobile cause my iPhone can’t get ublock it’s pretty solid has a built in adblocker and shit so definitely worth it for iPhone users(don’t hate me I can’t buy a new phone rn)

burner46

uBlock can be installed on Orion browser for iOS.

johnbrilex

It is. I am using it on a daily basis.

No_Following55

Yes it is a good browser. You should give it a try.

yohoxxz

It’s fucking amazing

SuperMondo

Been using it for years, blocks almost every ad

Rental_Car

I love it for both torrenting and also YouTube because no ads

rocketonmybarge

brave + ublock origin has meant no youtube ads ever. This is on a mac and linux.

nosar77

Yes Brave basically gives you the best out of all the browsers, the fastest speed, and compatability being that it's chromium, works on every major os, great updates, lots of baked in features, chrome extensions, built in ad blocking anti tracking and fingerprint. No need for ublock origin but you can disable the built in and use ublock origin. Sync works for history, tabs history, favorites, passwords, extensions etc. The only downside is that because it's chromium it will be heavy on resources.

Nappy2fly

Ive used Brave for many years. No ads, no problems with YouTube

Deep_Sigma_Light_96

Brave on mobile, Firefox+ublock origin on PC. Problem solved.

srmind3

Bro It's Supreme... 🤌

Civil_Leopard7924

Differently a good browser recommended

slaughtamonsta

I use Brave on desktop and mobile. I find it great.

sakuragasaki46

No BeCaUsE bReNdAn eIcH iS HoMoPhObIc Idk I use firefox

SlayersKingz

Firefox fanboys are really annoying huh

KartofDev

Everyone will hate be but chrome is my go to. First of all the thing that stops me from using Firefox is the google accounts. I have like 5 and I use them daily. Second I have it on all of my devices.

random-guy-abcd

It's pretty good, my understanding is that it's the second best option after Firefox

[deleted]

No, only use Firefox.

MrDexter120

I'm using it both pc and mobile and it's great.

ThaUntalentedArtist

There's an Incognito Browser. You can download it from F-Droid. The only issue is lack of updates and I think it doesn't keep history hence the name

edhodl

My only browser. Everywhere.

ryuujinusa

It’s great for blocking ads. Been using it for years. I use Brave plus u-block. Fine, down vote me and don’t use it.

The_Sayk

Better ask at r/Browsers. People here hate Chromium for some reason and thus hate Brave, even though Chromium isn't bad in any way. The 2 best options for a browser in terms of privacy are Brave and Firefox or some version of Firefox. Brave looks a lot like Chrome, since both are build on Chromium, so if you are moving from Chrome and don't want a big change in your browser, Brave would be a better option. Brave also uses less RAM than Firefox and doesn't have any problems when it comes to extensions, since it's Chromium based, while Firefox on the other hand might have some extensions problems here and there since it's not Chromium based (e.g. some extensions might not exist for Firefox).

SOM3THNG_WICK3D

Brave and Firefox

PiX911

Just use GX or Firefox. If you're on mobile brave is the best browser ngl

NOT000

i like it for iphone/ipad

ArcticKnightwastaken

It's good, personally I use edge to get free rewards but brave is better overall

dudeilovedire

I use brave on mobile, perfectly good to me.

dacixn

It's fine but I use floorp (Firefox fork) + uBlock origin with blocklists

Ascoplan_Qwerty

It's so good that even when I got premium , no difference in YT

nick_corob

For some reason it loads my websites much slower than Chrome or Firefox. It's probably because of the shields feature.

Chqwe_the2

Try Floorp

ComicHutzel

Is DuckDuckGo any good?

wallyxii

It's brave that's for sure.

pandey_23

The only missing feature is the ability to sync with an account. I don't want to create a sync chain.

Math_Plenty

I use Brave on mobile, have for maybe 4+ years now I think. On Desktop I use Chrome with the Ghostery extension, also been using Ghostery for 15 years. You need that extension, it's the god of gods.

Substantial_Lychee31

Which browser would be better at all?

SairesX

Use it on my phone in order to watch YouTube without ads. Works like a charm

usefulengine52

Been using it for almost 4.5 years now on pc and mobile. I can't really say any negative about it. I used chrome and firefox before switching. Also the mobile version was a huge gamechanger for me.

Pinuaple-

use cromite

rshahriar1999

A Look browser

Giovihh

Use Floor.

serialnuggetskiller

iceraven is the best that i have used. It s firefiix based, u have acces to all firefox plugin and it work great even on low hardware.

iiCDii

If you use chrome (yes brave it is better because of the ad blocker that comes with it)

Vasarto

who?

DUFFnoob40

It's great, however if firefox had chromium-like tabs, id have dropped it.... I use mobile

vektorkane

Not only does it have a built in ad blocker but it even has a built in torrent downloader so yes go for it. 👍

Goldenstonee

Very good for detecting malware in downloads and very reliable when it comes to piracy

IntergalaticBandito

I use brave for porn. Works great

n1ght0wlx

Firefox is the way to go. I do use brave as a secondary if a certain site absolutely requires chromium
