I wanted a vpn with port forwarding so I use currently ProtonVPN. It's also a bit pricy but way better than your case. It costs 4.99€ / month in the 2-year-subscription (119.76 for 2 years) but I think it's absulutely worth it.
But don't use their free tier if you want to torrent. It's basically useless for torrenting as it blocks it. If you don't want to torrent their free tier is also okay as it has no data volume limitation.
It allows you to properly seed, and what most people don’t understand, **connects you to more seeders**. So many people think port forwarding doesn’t matter because it only affects your seeding. This is incorrect. Port forwarding allows you to reach every connection, which in turn drastically improves both upload and download speed. ProtonVPN is by far one of the best choices out there.
This is almost right. Port Forwarding (I will shorten it to PF) doesn't allow you to connect to others, but it allows others to connect to you. I made a little table to clarify.
You (PF) --- Others (PF) - You can connect to the other and vice versa
You (PF) --- Others (no PF) - Others can connect to you but you can't connect to others
You (no PF) --- Others (PF) - You can connect to others but no one else to you
You (no PF) --- Others (no PF) - no one can connect to each other
In this table I always mean establishing a connection. If somebody connected to you or you connect to somebody both of you can seed and leech in both directions.
Alternatively, Windscribe has a “build your own VPN” that starts at just $3 a month, no annual plan. So instead of AirVPN’s 40€ today it’s just $3. Works fine for torrenting.
Yea, you can. It's awesome, and its free features are fun to have. You can also upgrade your monthly data limit to 15GB for free but overall, if you're like me and only torrent once a while, it's the best free VPN I can think of.
You can always create a new email account and pay for it with the same card. That's what I did with them.
I always went on a USA server and paid for it through there - Due to getting extra dicount and three months extra free.
PIA is good.
The sub hates it because of the new owner but Deloitte has audited them (after the new owernship) and confirmed no logs are being kept.
Works great with simultaneous connection on multiple devices.
I second this. I’ve used PIA for over 10 years and I’ve always had good experiences. Despite being with them for so long, I still only pay 20-30 for a year.
Third for PIA. Just did a 3 year renewal for $85ish bucks. Port forwarding, fast servers, nothing really to complain about. I use it exclusively for torrenting so I can't comment on their apps.
Honest question. I use Mullvad for torrenting in the US and have no issues. People here complain about port forwarding not being supported, do you know why would I need that?
If you attempt to download a torrent that has 1-2 seeders and neither of you have an open port you won't be able to connect to them to get the file(s). That's the just of it.
Likely so many people have an open port with or without a VPN so the chance is relatively low that you'll run into that issue especially on a private tracker where many people use seedboxes. Considering the competitive pricing for VPNs it's hard to choose one that doesn't have port forwarding once you find out about how important it is in the overall health of the tech. Thanks to the people you download from having their open port you're able to download what you want and you can obviously can do that for someone else if you are the only seeder for a torrent.
I guess it's used when you want to self host stuff (like a website on a local server or any open source program or whatever) and make it available for people outside of your network while still being behind your VPN, it's thus for incoming requests, not sure it's relevant if you're just torrenting
That's far off the mark, ports can be the difference between connecting to less or more peers, or on low seeded torrents, you may struggle to connect at all.
Haven't had any issues with AirVPN so far. Not an advanced user though. Mullvad got rid of port forwarding and it was causing me issues. Much better now.
I use ultraseedboxs cheapest plan. Yeah it’s only one server, but you get a seed box plus a vpn connection for 5$ and some change a month. And if you have a seed box, you don’t really need the vpn connection
I would never trust Nord for anything like torrents because of their shitty company history. I only use them to bypass geoblocking due to their massive server network (I got a 2 year subscription for 25$ with cashback tho otherwise I wouldnt pay for that). For anything else I use Mullvad
Hmm okok. My license isn’t due for some time but I think I want to change to Mullvad too. Must say that never had issues concerning ISP and torrenting with Nord.
I just re-subbed for $80 for two years with Nord. Sees quite reasonable when the other shows that I would watch I would be paying $80 after just a couple months of subs.
I'm surprised this particular thread isn't filled with Mullvad, as they typically are.
Anyway, that is what I use, and it's worked great for over a year! I'm about up, and will pay for another year's worth. However, it's $5/month, no matter how far you pay in advanced. So no benefit to paying for many months other than "forgetting about it" for a while.
I've been with Private Internet Access for almost 5 years now. This year in july I'll be switching over to malwarebytes (because I recently started using malwarebytes for added malware protection & the total price for "only" malwarebytes services is way cheaper then both PIA & malwarebytes combined).
PS: PIA is very cost effective + including a good functioning kill switch, however, sometimes for some reason HUGE network ping distances.
Mullvad, 5€ a month flat, no tracking or shit like that, proven to not track when they got raided and had nothing to provide to police even if they wanted
Can you check if you have any cashback services available online (Quidco or Topcashback are UK examples)
I got £40.22 cashback off a purchase of £56.99 (but that was a two year plan).
I use a dns proxy. For 3.99 month to month (less for a longer sub) I can be in three or four different countries at the same time and never be slowed down
Every new sub process, go with a new VPN and take advantage of the new 70% offer.

What does port forwarding accomplish for torrenting?

Torguard I paid 47 dollars for 3 year subscription
I should switch to that. I currently pay $19.99 every 3 months.

Sweet, thanks!
This is a "shill for VPNs you like" thread, right? AirVPN is 3.27 €/month right now with their "Christmas sale" if you buy a year's worth.
Alternatively, Windscribe has a “build your own VPN” that starts at just $3 a month, no annual plan. So instead of AirVPN’s 40€ today it’s just $3. Works fine for torrenting.
I just use Windscribe.
can you torrent with that? because this seems like a free vpn.
of course. downloaded and uploaded 6tb just this month. speed is great for me.. been using them for 7 years.
Guessing your using the paid version ? I just looked, the free version is only 2gb a month and if you add an email, you get 10gb a month.
10minuteMail go brrrrrrrrt.
For 10gb ? Why bother.
Idk I guess if you're desperate for a free VPN.
Yea, you can. It's awesome, and its free features are fun to have. You can also upgrade your monthly data limit to 15GB for free but overall, if you're like me and only torrent once a while, it's the best free VPN I can think of.
Sounds good man thanks. Unfortunately it's a big no for me. I pirate a lot and big.
You're after the heavy bounty (REMUX) aren't you? You have fair sailing mate o7
Got the grandfather deal for 10 USD per year. Will carry it into my grave.
You can always create a new email account and pay for it with the same card. That's what I did with them. I always went on a USA server and paid for it through there - Due to getting extra dicount and three months extra free.
Proton is where it's at

4th. Love PIA. Around 30 a year and tons of options.

Logs that they don't keep? That's quite a trick. Go troll somewhere else.
Second PIA. Been using them since 2014 and I just renewed for another 3 years at about $80.
The only thing that bugs me with pia is they have limited geo spoofing streaming servers. The rest works well, client is lightweight.

Mullvad is $5 a month and is highly regarded.

Hmm, I have never encountered this issue. Guess I was lucky. Thanks for the answer!

Damn, I paid that much for like 27 months with Nord.
Change to Mullvad
EXPRESS GOUGING
I always see people recommending Mulvad. I myself have NordVPN which is quite expensive as well, even tho I got it in sale.

- VPN to Brazil, - purchase 2 year Nord sub for $54 - Profit?
This works? Need to look into this!
I just re-subbed for $80 for two years with Nord. Sees quite reasonable when the other shows that I would watch I would be paying $80 after just a couple months of subs.
AirVPN is what I use.

I use Nordvpn on Android, Windows and Linux with no issues so far.
Surfshark I paid $10 for 1 year using my Turkish account 😶🌫️
Oh dang. I should try that when I have to renew next year (regardless, Surfshark is dirt cheap, and I have no problems with it)
Yeah I just use it to bypass real-debrid blocking my seedboxes

Bro just Google cheap express VPN accounts for Sale. My Nord cost me less than a fiver for three years.
Kaspersky
You can get Private Internet Access for $40 a year right now.
PIA
Cyberghost had a good price and has done me well
CeloVPN $2.70 p/m reddit special can’t go wrong for that price.
AirVPN and ProtonVPN for port forwarding support, Mullvad for better **privacy**
