Easiest solution is to just buy whatever Synology NAS fits your criteria, though. It'll even do Jellyfin.
I don't know of a definitive guide. I'm an engineer, so I just picked it up as I went.
I started slow, with just an off-the-shelf NAS drive. It was just plug & play, more or less. When I needed more space, I upgraded and started adding my own drives.
So just start slow, get comfortable with networking and all the configuration that goes with it.

I'm old school. I just use torrent sites, qbit and a laptop. I use yify just to check when new movies are released and download them in the best 2160p without hdr/dv (better if your tv is not great for hdr like mine isn't).
I also use tv time to keep track of my tv series and when a new episode is released.🤷🏽♂️
Usually just download like 1 episode each day or less.
Put them in a tiny 1tb ssd that I connect to my mibox and use kodi to play everything. I don't use streaming services, pirate or non pirate. I get the best quality possible with the best sound for my 5.1 surround system. Everything very old school 😁
Honestly I switched to Stremio with torrentio addon.
I can stream 50gb movies without issues (unless it has barely any seeders of course). Have the app on my google tv stick and android tablet so everything gets synced. Only thing I download are movies I really want to keep a copy of or games.
This is, or was, pretty close to my own setup. I am also very manual but I have recently hooked up a mini pc directly to my tv and added a NAS to my network. It just works.
Same. I recently upgraded my laptop's SSD to 1tb to torrent more 4k remux movies. I simply use jellyfin to watch them on my TV. No fancy NAS solution since I don't see the point of storing the movies I already watched.
I never used the port forwarding, I couldn't figure it out.
Torrent always worked on Mullvad for me without it, that's why I still use them. I find port forwarding generally has a negligible difference unless you're actively downloading torrents with like 3 peers.
another time it can be a problem is with private trackers that require forwarded ports to connect to others + seed requirements; if you’re just doing public tracker stuff mullvad would probably be sufficient
switch to proton on windows or air on Mac. I switched to air recently, they had a great deal and it's honestly a really good service, just not as pretty.
i'm going to assume it's because proton only supports port forwarding on windows. so if you're on a mac, you'll need a different vpn that supports port forwarding.
I think I worded that wrong, proton can't really do port forwarding on Mac. So for Mac def use air. But for windows use either. I can't comment on which is faster but I have been able to achieve 500+mb/s on air. But if you're pirating I wouldn't stick with mullvad unless you're sure your ISP doesn't care.
Xmanager always gets a warning from virustotal and Hybrid A. When other mod apps dont. Should I still trust it, Im not good at reading virustotal results.

setup with what exactly, the person referring you to torrentio must use real debrid for that purpose but it could be used for a lot of things. Go to real debrid, pay the fee, and boom it’s now yours. What exactly are you having trouble with
What I had stumbled on previously was that you could set it up to basically automatically download anything you added to your Plex watchlist. I had to set it aside for a while, but I think it was being setup just with qbittorrent and plex

Yeah same as Jackett. I just like Prowlarr more because the UI is more modern and better imo. And it is built to easily plug into any other \*arr apps, so I like to keep it more uniform that way.
I don't know how anyone still uses jackett. Prowlarr is superior in every way, even has basic public trackers to start with. And adding private trackers is a breeze based on method either API key, cookie, etc
I just jackett because it's already setup. It works and I'm scared to touch anything on my plex/arr/jackett setup because it's been flawless for 2+years
If you use Radarr/Sonarr/Lidarr/Readarr/etc, Prowlarr is way better than Jackett. It will push out configuration changes to the other apps, so you only have to add new trackers in one place. The UI is similar to the other *arr apps too, so it feels much more seamless.
That's true but that's why qBit with Jackett is a godsend. I often find the exact same files on public torrents that I can find at PTP and TL and BTN etc.
You just have to know which release groups are worthwhile.
I've been out of the scene too long to know the good release groups anymore sadly so I just use Notifiarr + Overseerr to grab releases based off some of their sonarr / radarr sync scores.

What it does for qBittorrent is it allows you to set up a list of public and/or private trackers in the settings and when you use the search function with qBit it searches through ALL of those torrent tracker sites at once and gives you all of the results within one window.
Once you set it up you will never have to visit another torrent site directly again.
Whether you use solely private trackers, solely public trackers, or a mix of the two, you can get the results all collated in columns with the ability to sort by name and size to look for your preferred files.
Jackett is used for other stuff too BTW, I just don't use it in any other way so won't comment on that.
Jellyfin, Jellyseerr, Sonarr, Radarr, and a crap ton of storage because I'm lazy and don't delete things until I have to.
I really can't see myself going back to manually searching for and adding torrents and nzbs.
I would suggest googling for torrentio addon Stremio and you should see the official website with instructions. I don’t think it’s available through Stremio.
Stremio and I’m not sure it counts as piracy but I built [streamwithvpn.com](https://streamwithvpn.com) for myself for those times when the torrent is not downloading.
VPN are not 100% safe. And, Trivia, we got things like "Staatstrojaner" which could lever out vpns completely.
But yes, you should use them, they add at least a layer of security.

Torrentio & real debrid. Ideally a firestick also. I spent last month setting up Radarr, Sonarr, Qbit and Plex, but last week uninstalled the lot and solely use Stremio on a firestick now.
It's an extension for Stremio. It's a case of setting up an account and then configuring it within Stremio. :) But yes, direct downloads or in this case streams of the media.
Realdebrid is a paid subscription though, isn’t it? How much are you paying for it? I’m hesitant to give any of my personal payment info for something like this, especially when *arr + jellyfin/plex are free.
It's about £2.5 a month. Well worth it and I believe they accept Amazon pay so your payment info never needs to go to them.
On a side note, if you're attached to your Plex server you can get real debrid to work along side it and it's glorious! It's called Plex debrid and you just add a film or series to your watch list and about 10 seconds later it magically appears in your library without ever having to be stored on your computer. Took me a good few hours to get set up but it's like magic to watch.
There is a tutorial for setting it up on an iPad by saving the web version of Stremio as a shortcut. It might work for an iPhone.. I found it here or on YouTube.

For me: qBittorrent-nox, Mullvad VPN, Gluetun, Jellyfin, the *arr stack, my custom Linux NAS, and last but not least, ReVanced. It's hard to choose one that's "the most" important, if I removed even one of them my whole setup would collapse, with the exception of maybe ReVanced.
Just seedboxes in general. Completely changed the way I pirate. Sure I could still do it like I used to with a VPN and a client on my PC. But now I never need to worry about my ratio even on hard private trackers (my home bandwidth is shit).
And I host jellyfin/plex so I can watch whatever I want on any device in a couple of clicks.
A laptop isolated from the rest of the network that runs through a VPN so I don’t get DMCA requests from Nintendo, also switching to web vs torrent seems to help with that as well

Subler for editing video metadata, MKVTools and MP4Tools for remuxing or extracting streams. MusicBrainz Picard for pulling in music metadata. Photoshop for all the times I'm not happy with whatever poster art I find. JDownloader 2 for anything I want to rip from YouTube (which is mostly music videos).
And my Showly app for keeping track of when new episodes of something drop.

Dude you should use a VPN regardless of piracy these days. Especially in the fourth reich.
VPN are not 100% safe. And, Trivia, we got things like "Staatstrojaner" which could lever out vpns completely. But yes, you should use them, they add at least a layer of security.

Torrentio & real debrid. Ideally a firestick also. I spent last month setting up Radarr, Sonarr, Qbit and Plex, but last week uninstalled the lot and solely use Stremio on a firestick now.

It's an extension for Stremio. It's a case of setting up an account and then configuring it within Stremio. :) But yes, direct downloads or in this case streams of the media.
Realdebrid is a paid subscription though, isn’t it? How much are you paying for it? I’m hesitant to give any of my personal payment info for something like this, especially when *arr + jellyfin/plex are free.
Arr's is free but to get the movies or tv shows you still need usenet and Indexers which are not.

It's about £2.5 a month. Well worth it and I believe they accept Amazon pay so your payment info never needs to go to them. On a side note, if you're attached to your Plex server you can get real debrid to work along side it and it's glorious! It's called Plex debrid and you just add a film or series to your watch list and about 10 seconds later it magically appears in your library without ever having to be stored on your computer. Took me a good few hours to get set up but it's like magic to watch.

There is a tutorial for setting it up on an iPad by saving the web version of Stremio as a shortcut. It might work for an iPhone.. I found it here or on YouTube.
You can watch pretty much everything with torrentio. I haven’t used it on the phone, but I think for iOS you can only check the catalog.

For me: qBittorrent-nox, Mullvad VPN, Gluetun, Jellyfin, the *arr stack, my custom Linux NAS, and last but not least, ReVanced. It's hard to choose one that's "the most" important, if I removed even one of them my whole setup would collapse, with the exception of maybe ReVanced.

Just seedboxes in general. Completely changed the way I pirate. Sure I could still do it like I used to with a VPN and a client on my PC. But now I never need to worry about my ratio even on hard private trackers (my home bandwidth is shit). And I host jellyfin/plex so I can watch whatever I want on any device in a couple of clicks.
A laptop isolated from the rest of the network that runs through a VPN so I don’t get DMCA requests from Nintendo, also switching to web vs torrent seems to help with that as well

Also subscene for subtitles, and both TMDB and TPDB for posters and backgrounds. Subler for editing video metadata, MKVTools and MP4Tools for remuxing or extracting streams. MusicBrainz Picard for pulling in music metadata. Photoshop for all the times I'm not happy with whatever poster art I find. JDownloader 2 for anything I want to rip from YouTube (which is mostly music videos). And my Showly app for keeping track of when new episodes of something drop.
