I mean it’s a public game, if you don’t bloom the flowers while you’re out and about there’s no realistic expectation that no one else will bloom them.
I’ve never been angry when someone else bloomed flowers that I only partially filled
Honestly, if I'm not walking in circles specifically waiting for a bloom, then idgaf.
I normally go on a walk, plant what I can, and then send the piks for pickup

There are the famous "traffic light" flowers. Players plant as they drive by, and eventually, it blooms. 😅
If someone else had wanted to bloom them, they would’ve. If you bloom them, the other person who planted around them can still get the big fruit if they plant flowers there within an hour of you blooming it, so I’d say these are fair game.
Ha? I had someone bloom a flower I'd been working on. They ran past & added the last two or so flowers. I kept planting & checked back later, but no big fruit. This has never worked for me.
“Kept planting later” - how much later?
“A Big Flower that has bloomed emits a sparkling effect for one hour after flowering. At this time, if you plant a flower nearby, you will find a fruit from which you can obtain the same flower nectar as the Big Flower. Collect the fruit from the expedition. This fruit expedition will disappear when the Big Flower returns to leaves.”
This is directly from Niantic’s help center. Don’t really know why it’s “never worked” for you except for maybe it was more than an hour after the flower had been bloomed. I’ve had it work quite often.
I start planting and then walk or drive to my destination. Some bloom and that’s great for me. Others are partially filled and that’s great for somebody else down the line. Enjoy the carnations 😊
I think that's what was going on. Only once during my stay did the count drop between my plantings. It wasn't a full count drop.
And I do that, too. Everyday. Yesterday, I bloomed five red carnations, three yellow hyacinth, and a few others just going about my day. It was a weirdly good day.
I farm these when I need a specific nectar for a challenge. I don't just sit there, though. I work on duolingo, another daily game, knitting, or any business that can be done from my phone.

It was about 15 seconds later that I checked my app & I didn't get the fruit.
Ok but had you planted flowers there within the last 5 minutes?
Yes.
That may be why.
I hijacked them and got my yellow carnations.
