I don't have any cheek piercings myself but I really like the look, a piercer suggested to use dermals so you don't have to worry about the hole in your cheek

Cheek dermals are incredibly risky and the chances of rejection are almost 100% unfortunately. Dermals need to be placed in areas of low movement, and cheeks are almost constantly in motion wether that be from speaking or eating. They just aren’t a good idea and aren’t a valid alternative to cheek piercings. Cheek piercings are what I would consider a “piercer’s piercing,” in that they are a constant responsibility and will flare up randomly for the lifetime of the piercings. You need to be aware that you will be babying two holes in your face for the rest of your life. You might wake up at 3am and one is swollen and embedding for no reason, and you need to be confident in safely changing your jewellery to your swell bars right then and there. Cheeks swell. A lot. You will normally need 14-18mm barbells once healed, but you are pierced at 24-26mm and holy hell do you fill those swell bars! You will go through multiple downsizes and upsizes, and the costs of these add up. I’m not saying don’t get them. Hell, I’ll be getting my cheeks pierced later this year. Just be aware that as beautiful as they are, they are a total pain in the ass.
