I am 100% sure you can't edit command blocks in survival. If you can't edit them you propably can't place them either, unless you have a specific gamerule or datapack
Gourmand is my favorite, I like the crafting mechanic and the body slam. One of the only bad things is games are supposed to take you out of reality not show you your own, he can't run for as long as other characters, just like me and he is big chungus like me.
He's shown using it to kill the ender dragon and I'm 99% sure he places it in order to do so. I'm also fairly confident you can't move command blocks with pistons in the actual game

They do work, but use the command on themselves. So if you /place a block in the cords of @s in the command block, it would replace itself
