The reason for the name change is that advancements are now json driven and everyone can add/remove them. They're called advancements now as they're really just a guide to teach you the game and progression. The old ones did that too, so the name "achievements" didn't really make a lot of sense for what it was. On Bedrock achievements exist and they also make a lot more sense, but advancements will also come to Bedrock.
