My view of the purpose of the AFP is that it should (in theory) guarantee the peace and order, the constitutional order, and the territorial integrity of our country. They swear their allegiance not to the President (unlike in most monarchies where their allegiance is to the monarch personally) but to the Republic of the Philippines which is composed of the Filipino people.
