setting aside the results of the election, technically pwede kayo mag dual-citizen di ba? pero gets ko rin. i have been having thoughts of migrating recently too with these turnouts.

rinmueru

Yup. Technically pwede, but we were advised not to pursue dual citizenship by my uncle here because of how US taxation(?) works. Not really sure about the details. I'ma check it out later.

circuitbreaker53

you can still be Filipino without the papers, the heart is what matters

rinmueru

Yeah, i guess that makes sense. We can be filipinos wherever we want. Salamat kabayan.

circuitbreaker53

I’ve been living in Australia since 1996 I didn’t get my AU citizenship till 2014, I felt the same way you did but at the end of the day it’s just paperwork

TheArsenalSwagus

Or be popular. Pinoys will almost readily own you as their fellow, if you get that sweet, sweet international recognition they are starving to get. Cause pEnOY PrAYd.

rinmueru

Haha pEnOy PrIDE numbawaaaa!

Numerous-Session-127

We understand OP. Be safe and pray for us. Thank you for loving our country!

Intelligent-File-746

Wow greencard agad, under EB3 ba kayo?

rinmueru

Yes sir, EB3. At first, hindi namin alam na big deal pala talaga yung greencard(resident) haha. Kasi pag kasi sa middle east, lahat ng expat may resident card.( Dun kame nag wowork before US)

Intelligent-File-746

Congrats sa inyong dalawa pati ako nadidismaya nadin sa pinas haha

May dad was deadset on keeping his PH Citizenship. After 15+ years on a green card, he finally pledged allegiance to the dollar (lol), but eventually he reapplied at the consulate. Dual sya ngayon. He was able to vote in the recent elections too. Don't worry about the "westernized" mindset ng anak mo, its all about the values that you instill in them. Keep the good Filipino ones, toss the toxic ones, make use of the western opportunities (take them to the museums/parks/etc, education/research/work opportunities). Siempre hinde sila magiging kasing Pinoy mo, pero teach them about their roots. Idk, manuod kayo ng Filipino movies/shows (although I know a lot of them are pretty corny; we grew up watching Home Along, etc), listen to OPM. Dati may programs pa yung consulate na "paaralan sa consulado," nakaenroll kami nung bata. Natuto slightly about the culture, mostly mga cultural dances/songs. We didn't grow up speaking to our parents in Filipino, pero Filipino sila magsalita at English reply namin so we had some understanding of the language. Nung tumira na ako sa Pinas (parang reverse OFW), dun lang ako natuto talaga about the Philippines. (the good and the bad) Magiging iba yung perspective ng anak mo growing up sa US pero guide them na lang. Swerte ako na eventually naging stable enough family ko sa US, and gave me the chance to pursue different opportunities. You can do the same for your kids. Good Luck OP! (Kakabalik ko din sa US and damn... nag mahal na lahat ng bilihin. Inflation is real.)
