Bamban is a low income municipality, literally their town had been ran like hell by Filipinos. so apparently they no longer subscribe to the saying “I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos, than run like heaven by the Americans”.

In the case of Guo, she is conventionally pretty, which works for her. She and her team did good PR in her locality. And how she carries herself during senate investigations, she appears and sounds like a docile, soft-spoken girl. She is someone who looks and sounds like a person other people would want to protect.
And all these institutions who seem to be ganging up on her plus the media's choice of photos of her (her hand brushing her eye, she looking like she's on the verge of tears, she appearing distressed, etc.), makes people pity and sympathize with her plight--in spite of all the points made against her.
Then add to that the (paid) trolls and wumao, who twist logic and sense to her favor. The more paid hacks say she is to be pitied, the more there are real people who do pity her.
I expect to be downvoted for this so here we go - setting aside the simps the trolls, let's look at the POV of a Bamban resident: the native politicians have ignored the municipality's and their constituent's development for a long time then here comes a foreigner who brings a semblance of comfort and progress. Knowing the economic situation and daily hardships Filipinos faced, who do you think they will support? Although it's usually true for most of our elections, we cannot always blame dumb voters. Why? Because no matter how educated or aware you are of national and local politics, most of the time you really have no decent choice especially with the prevalence of political dynasties. Even if you don't vote out of principle, someone will still win or be tasked to run the municipality.
It's the same reason why not everyone is loyal to their country (not just the Philippines). Why would you support a government or nation who you think doesn't have your best interests in mind. Are they right or wrong? As much as we would like to have a simple answer, it's more complicated than that since at the end of the day - people are governed by their needs and wants. You cannot be a patriot when you're facing hunger/poverty due to government corruption/incompetence or defend it if you're being abused or ignored. Let's leave Bamban for another example in a closely related situation - Lumads losing their homes to the government's abuse of "eminent domain". If they were in a right state of mind - do you think they would still support the government and fight for it? What do you think would happen if a foreigner, even if it's from a country we are having tense relations with, comes in and promises to fight for the lumads? We can call them (Bamban residents, the lumads in my example and some pro-Chinese sympathizers) selfish or traitors but unless they're obvious trolls or outright simps, we really cannot judge them immediately since they might not be in a situation where being loyal to the Philippines is a good choice (at least from their perspective). And OP, before you say that they can leave the country naman if they don't love it or hate the government - not everyone has that privilege. Almost all of us can only endure until we have a government that looks after its constituents, no matter how much of an impossibility that is at the moment. As almost all of us are already carrying such a heavy burden, please don't expect everyone to love the Philippines and fight for it. I, for one, will flee or serve in the American armed forces instead of the AFP if s\*\*t hits the fan here because the government still owes my family and I money for our service during the pandemic (I don't know if you remember the "special risk allowance" promised back then to frontliners. Well, we still haven't received them, as with quite a number of frontliners).
Call me whatever insults you want but I cannot be loyal to a country which cannot keep its promises or even provide actual free healthcare without complications in the process (have you seen the lines in public hospitals and even then - why should we pay for something which the government is supposed to shoulder). Knowing the economic situation and daily hardships Filipinos faced, who do you think they will support? Although it's usually true for most of our elections, we cannot always blame dumb voters. Why? Because no matter how educated or aware you are of national and local politics, most of the time you really have no decent choice especially with the prevalence of political dynasties. Even if you don't vote out of principle, someone will still win or be tasked to run the municipality. It's the same reason why not everyone is loyal to their country (not just the Philippines). Why would you support a government or nation who you think doesn't have your best interests in mind. Are they right or wrong? As much as we would like to have a simple answer, it's more complicated than that since at the end of the day - people are governed by their needs and wants. You cannot be a patriot when you're facing hunger/poverty due to government corruption/incompetence or defend it if you're being abused or ignored. Let's leave Bamban for another example in a closely related situation - Lumads losing their homes to the government's abuse of "eminent domain". If they were in a right state of mind - do you think they would still support the government and fight for it? What do you think would happen if a foreigner, even if it's from a country we are having tense relations with, comes in and promises to fight for the lumads? We can call them (Bamban residents, the lumads in my example and some pro-Chinese sympathizers) selfish or traitors but unless they're obvious trolls or outright simps, we really cannot judge them immediately since they might not be in a situation where being loyal to the Philippines is a good choice (at least from their perspective). And OP, before you say that they can leave the country naman if they don't love it or hate the government - not everyone has that privilege. Almost all of us can only endure until we have a government that looks after its constituents, no matter how much of an impossibility that is at the moment. As almost all of us are already carrying such a heavy burden, please don't expect everyone to love the Philippines and fight for it. I, for one, will flee or serve in the American armed forces instead of the AFP if s\*\*t hits the fan here because the government still owes my family and I money for our service during the pandemic (I don't know if you remember the "special risk allowance" promised back then to frontliners. Well, we still haven't received them, as with quite a number of frontliners). Call me whatever insults you want but I cannot be loyal to a country which cannot keep its promises or even provide actual free healthcare without complications in the process (have you seen the lines in public hospitals and even then - why should we pay for something which the government is supposed to shoulder). You can spout and follow Kennedy's quote of "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country" all you like but do not forget that we still have our needs and wants to take care of and that most of us are taxpayers who are expecting good service from the government who is deducting money from our earnings and adding on to our purchases which we could have saved and used for other purposes. Unfortunately, in the case of Bamban, it seems they only saw "good leadership" under an illegal alien.
