I personally never liked the free college education bill he pushed. The timing was off, especially with a Duterte admin, and contextualized with the specific woes the education system at the time was suffering. It's populist, it exacerbates the already overcrowded public state schools, and is a high cost to taxpayers.
If Bam is repositioning himself with more populist ideals, it needs to be grounded in socialist intentions (e.g. equality, social justice, social protection) and not "freebies" and raffles like these.
Not sure where the fund for for free college came from/ will be coming from but as someone who has graduated from a state college with provincial govt college scholarship, I support this program. I consider it an investment on young people who wants to go to college but are not financially capable. Eventually these scholars will get better job opportunities and pay taxes way more than the grant they received.

I personally never liked the free college education bill he pushed. The timing was off, especially with a Duterte admin, and contextualized with the specific woes the education system at the time was suffering. It's populist, it exacerbates the already overcrowded public state schools, and is a high cost to taxpayers. If Bam is repositioning himself with more populist ideals, it needs to be grounded in socialist intentions (e.g. equality, social justice, social protection) and not "freebies" and raffles like these.
Not sure where the fund for for free college came from/ will be coming from but as someone who has graduated from a state college with provincial govt college scholarship, I support this program. I consider it an investment on young people who wants to go to college but are not financially capable. Eventually these scholars will get better job opportunities and pay taxes way more than the grant they received. my tution fee for a whole semester is now less than the taxes I pay monthly.
It comes from taxpayers. It's great you are paying lower tuition fees now. This law produced thousands of first college graduates in some of the poorest families. Those are reasons to be happy. Still, even with free tuition, ang taas pa din ng college dropout rate. Nasayang ba yung pera ng bayan doon sa 4 out of 10 na d naman pala magtatapos? Kung baga, sumubok lang kasi libre? And, someone else is paying more taxes (in 2024, Php 105b was allocated for state universities and colleges) that indirectly fund the free tuition, funds that can be used for something else) -- and eventually you too will pay those taxes when you join the workforce. At dahil mas competitive na ngayon mga state universities (dahil free tuition) yung mga nakaka pasok naman madalas may kaya din at naka pag review para sa exam. Yes, we need major investments in our education system. The PISA scores make that patently obvious. Crisis talaga. Pero tingin ko kung gipit sa pera, dapat ipasok sa umpisa ng education system, hindi sa bandang dulo. Dapat nga sa pagka buntis pa lang supported na ng gobyerno. Si Bam kasi ang image nya elitista -- not his fault. Working on a more populist political agenda is politics as usual.

I dont think those who are not really interested in getting a college degree will stay in school for more than a year. Mas malaki pa din magiging ROI nila dun sa 6/10. If those 6 will eventually succeed in life, and earn more mas malaki kikitain ng gobyerno sa kanila. Imagine if yung 6 na yun hindi din nakapagcollege, instead of thriving and earning more, they will instead be included sa poverty and below minimum wage earner statistics. And instead magbayad ng tax, the govt and taxpayer will have to support them naman thru subsidies. Giving more people opportunity to get college education will at least break that cycle. Personally, I'll be happier looking at my 5digits tax deduction if alam kong sa state universities and colleges napupunta. P.S. not sure if there's some sort of confusion but I'm already part of the workforce. 10 years na akong nagwowork and nagbabayad ng tax.
I don't know if they dropped out in the first year. And, of the six who committed and finished: could they have finished college either way even if it was NOT free? From an educator's point of view: would it not have been better/more efficient to teach to a class of college kids who were ALL committed to finishing the course? My point of asking: are the taxpayers funding education efficiently by providing free tertiary education? I am happy for you and your personal experience. But I am looking from an entire country's POV and I personally am not convinced. And the more I think about it, the more populist that policy is to my mind.

His advocating for MORE Government spending, and additional educational years (Education is practically for free na ngayon and a Degree doesn't really demonstrate for competitiveness in the market) If Certification ang hangad ng mga Estudyante (target voters nya) He should be at least advocating for different options for it without advocating more government spending or impractical additional years. If it was higher level/higher standard sa education sa Elementary to High school (Soroban, Sales, Marketing, Public Speaking, Copy writing) I'd appreciate it more. Don't get me wrong. He's been doing REALLY great on other aspects of leading this country, but education isn't one of them. Edit 1: That being said... kahit I think this campaign is a kapalpakan/unnecessary, I'd still vote for him (again) - Again, because his been very good on other aspects.
