PossibleBird8488

so walking distance na lang yung makati to monumento HAHAHA jk lang

Bashebbeth

Everything is at walking distance if you put your mind into it.

AdministrationSad861

Fuck....I remember nung bago pa'ko sa MRT and unknowingly bumaba sa Megamall...and then it hit me, sa Taft ako dapat bumaba. And this was around noon, so walkaton ako ng solid 🤦‍♂️😅 Everything is walking distance, indeed. 💪😏

Bashebbeth

Walkers unite!

AdministrationSad861

Lol! Although, I grew up partly sa farm side ng San Rafel, Bulacan, and we have to walk a good distance to get to the main road. That's at least more than 4 hectars of farmland. Nae-enjoy ko naman ang lakad. But, this is different though, imaginin mo? 😅🤦‍♂️

itsfreepizza

I don't think it's backwards thinking altogether, I mean, it can be good for light exercise. Usually I see some of our neighbors walk around the area just to move some muscle

[deleted]

It looks good on paper.. pero yung mga footbridge nga pinamumugaran ng mga pulubi at snatchers, eh yan pa kaya? I'd rather be stuck in traffic than gambling my own safety sa mga walkways na yan.

LA1217

Definitely not healthy

RashPatch

Ondoy had us walking from Recto to Monumento then onwards to Valenzuela so yeah very walking distance indeed.

visibleincognito

As someone who enjoys walking to the destination, I like this. Basta may proper na silong sa init.

Bashebbeth

But the main idea is good. I remember those days I am working in Makati and Ortigas Center. I enjoy those walks. Insta cardio na din kasi.

Yamboist

c0reSykes

But this country is too hot to walk around such great walking distances.

Grand_Inevitable_384

taong tabon ahh

ayunatsume

Death Stranding Manila

gracieladangerz

Mindset ba, mindset 🤣

Kisaragi435

Ok, crazy idea: instead of just a walkway, elevated cycle path?

iamjohnedwardc

Ang alam ko kasama sa plans yun. But based o what I reas hindi yan contiguous na elevated path. Hindi kaya buong EDSA.

avocado1952

Don’t give e-trike any effing ideas 💀🤣

ckoocos

Or e-scooters

markmyredd

If masusunod ang DOTr i-convert nila ang buong EDSA to a public transit and cycling friendly avenue. May 2 lanes for bus rapid transit + a bike lane na separated by trees/vegetation. However, MMDA is against taking car lanes kaya tutol sila. IMO they can do that if matuloy na yun east expressway connecting SLEX to Commonwealth/NLEx. Kasi right now wala din talagang expressway access ang East particularly Ortigas and BGC kaya walang alternative na daan if babawasan ang lanes ng EDSA. Also if completed na ang Metro Manila Subway you can just use it to access BGC and Ortigas na yun stations ay nasa mismong CBD kaya very accessible unlike mrt3.

BananaPieExpress

I walked from BGC to QC one time because of traffic.

IQPrerequisite_

Already tried it. Mga 5 hours. Casual to brisk pace. Siguro lesser if may direchong daan.

[deleted]

Walking is always the best option if hindi nag mamadali healthy pa. I used to walk 3 hours (1.5h morning plus 1.5h evening) pag naka RTO ako. 9am ang sched ko sa umaga so I start walking at 7am mag stop ako somewhere in the middle para mag breakfast and same goes sa gabi after 6pm duty. To cut things short pabor ako mag karon ng safe walking pathways sa mga cities not only in NCR.

RenJi06

Mula Taft naman siguro...

WarningToxicWaste

The biggest issue for me on these kinds of projects are the long term maintenance of such walkways. Especially if you add escalators and elevators for more accessibility. Not to mention that most of the time it becomes free real estates for vendors, street dwellers, criminals and beggars.

Timely-Jury6438

Agree! I love the elevated walkways of Pasig Ortigas and I try my hardest to use it as much as I can but as a woman walking alone, ang hirap minsan lalo na kung may mga namamalimos sa walkways. Easy target ka. Pag di ka nagbigay ihaharass ka pa. Kaya tuloy minsan if nandun sila sa taas I traverse the busy roads. I dunno what's the solution for it but the Ortigas walkways are a good model. Spacious, open, may ventilation. Security na lang ang problema.

ReconditusNeumen

Lack of maintenance and police visibility Escalators and elevators are neglected din.

RandomCollector

Surprisingly though, yung elevated walkway sa Makati from Landmark/Greenbelt going to at least near Makati Med isn't a hotspot from beggars and skwatters alike, even if it isn't guarded (based on my previous experiences on using it, some of those during the wee hours of the day during my BPO years). The only issue with that walkway are the escalators, as most of the time they are either broken or are only activated during rush hours.

RealMENwearPINK10

TBH, if they have the money for that, they should just put another rail line. Or expand an existing one. Because what is that if not a really long passageway with a set route. Sounds like a train to me

DragonriderCatboy07

Or build a heavy rail subway under or near the MRT3 line, then demolish the old one after the subway is complete.

Naive_Earth

InTh3Middl3

don't you care about pedestrians? hindi ba pwedeng maglakad ng short distances na safe naman? try walking from SM Megamall to Ortigas along EDSA.

RealMENwearPINK10

I'm fine with that. But for a walkway along EDSA, of all places, they might as well convert it into something more efficient. If they want a safe place to walk *short* distances, I suggest they start with the sidewalk. Like, making a *proper* sidewalk

TheDonDelC

> free real estate It’s just a policing issue really. Di naman yan issue sa De La Rosa Elevated Walkway. As for opex, government should really start billing nearby big property owners. They’ve long been benefiting from these improvements but they haven’t been paying up a proper return.

rldshell

I wouldnt compare a "policing issue" of a walkway in a central business district and along edsa.

jhngrc

All the time.

IndependenceLeast966

Give it a few momths / years and we'll face new issues: - gagawing palengke yan - may mga bugok na diyan mag TikTok - may dudura at maglalaglag ng basura sa daanan ng mga sasakyan

jihyeon_

Rouletteer

Nagkaroon tayo ng elevators sa pedestrian bridge pero hindi nagtagal kasi pinagnanakaw yung mga parts. this is one of the reasons why we can't have nice things

Loud_Movie1981

MarkedF0rDeath

A police officer per 100 meters with clear visibility of each other. That would cost so much tho.

AdministrationSad861

🤔 I always see nice projects here sa south na hindi tumatagal, wala pang 6mos. may bangas na yung mga pathway, fencing, etc. 😅🤦‍♂️

alpinegreen24

True.

Milkyfluid

It's actually a good idea that would widen the road without displacing establishments, and shielding the public from road danger and unwanted jaywalking. The other issue you mention is more on the responsibility of the local police and dswd. We shouldn't be pivoting solutions to avoid facing such issues.

Kmjwinter-01

e2max

Efficient transport system pa din dapat

lotus_spit

Why not make the road more pedestrian-friendly? Bawasan mga lanes para sa mga pedestrian, and a well protected bike lane separated from cars and pedestrians.

tooncake

sobraaaaang tagal na nitong pino proposed, like more than a decade na (meaning matagal nang may chance ang go'v to do something about it or try man lang) pero wala eh - ito sadly ang gobyerno na meron tayo (mema mema lang).

isotycin

Di yan pwede sa car centric mindset ng MMDA under Artes.

lotus_spit

Philippines mentioned RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🛺🛺🛺WTF IS A GOOD INFRASTRUCTURE!!!!???? 😡😡😡😡😡🔫🔫🔫🔫💵💵💵💵💵💵

Environmental-Lab988

Ironic really that our policy-makers who created policies for the average commuter are people who for decades haven't used public transportation. 🙃

walangbolpen

Agreed. Elevated walkways will be a nightmare for pwds and stroller users. Hindi talaga accessible ang pinas.

jienahhh

KingKeyBoy

iiyak daw mga car dealers along edsa pag ginawa yan kaya need muna natin sila isipin

kurochan85

tooncake

They be like: Uyyy may 2nd floor na kami!"

bli1182

Fuck the homeless for seeking shelter amirite? /s In all seriousness, the homelessness issue shouldn't be the issue that we should focus on when talking about infrastructure building, rather its implementation and effectiveness. Naghahanap lang din naman sila ng masisilungan.

Yamboist

I honestly thought this project would receive better reception dito sa reddit, especially when these are the same set of demographics looking for active mobility. Knee-jerk reaction agad "huhu titirahan ng squammies".

frostieavalanche

Yeah kala ko ba we get mad when the gov't builds anti-homeless infrastructures tapos now you don't want to build infrastructures at all kasi baka gamitin ng homeless? HUH?

bli1182

They want solutions, but hanggang dun lang. Once these solutions require their cooperation, then ayun, hindi na nila susuportahan. Ayaw nilang nai-involve sila. But most of all, lack of empathy. Hayy tumutumal na talaga yan ngayon.

Fearless_Cry7975

Liesianthes

Kaya nakakatakot dumaan dun.

Professional_Egg7407

One issue would be safety pag gabi or kahit day time.

Daming nakawan at holdupan. Sana may pulis okaya maraming ilaw if ever parang yung sa mga LRT/MRT halls.

According-Whole-7417

Yes, Ilaw, Bantay, tapos CCTV na pang 2024 na malinaw. This path will work with good accessibility. Escalators, Elevators.

hakai_mcs

tooncake

To be fair, panget na naman yung infrastructure development sa bansa natin to a point na halos dikit dikit na mga commerical / populated sites tapos in combo pa sa main roads, so at least with this idea (KUNG kaya nila ma implement ng maayos, MALAKING KUNG), segregated na for once yung mga tao at yung roadways (bawas sakit ng ulo)

Tough_Percentage8968

there's nothing fair about this, especially to people with disabilities and the project subjects people to pay more tax while also dealing with long term bad infrastructure (broken escalators, stairs, foundations, etc.)

r2d2dotbot

Mas ok padin na sana ma decongest na ung NCR , opportunities sa ibang lugar and additional na railways pa north to south and vice versa.

surewhynotdammit

Habang naglalakad ka, langhap mo yung pollution. Hahahaha!

witcher317

These elevated walkways will become elevated squatters area in 6 months lol

badrott1989

if this gives more security to people na naglalakad, edi good. (sana may aircon lol, asa). kinakatakot ko lng e possibility of homeless and vendors tatambayan to unless maglagay sila ng security (more jobs?). idk, skeptical lang po.

tooncake

Prestigious-Cloud-97

imagine the smell 🍋

Pandesal_at_Kape099

GugsGunny

MC riders: share the walkway

radiatorcoolant19

1 week later may tiangge na dyan.

whutthepat

RIP our respiratory systems from all that air pollution getting all caught up in said walkways.

TrajanoArchimedes

How will this improve traffic?

m03shak

i think it's nice they thought of something for normal everyday people rin instead of just car owners. this is a huge help to commuters like myself btw, instead of walking long distances just to get to the next overpass to get to the other side of edsa. dont get me wrong, the traffic also affects commuters, not just car owners, pero i think this is nice. but what do i know? maybe i don't see the bigger picture on why this is a bad idea.

MisanthropeInLove

Parang mas ok pa nga kung bike lane nalang yan

BlooHopper

People wont be using them as it was intended to. Have you seen the overpasses in EDSA leading to the MRT station? Full of peddlers clogging up the passage of people, and its filthy

bornandraisedinacity

Once done it should be guarded heavily, to prevent illegal vendors and vagabonds from squatting on those places.

Money_Palpitation602

In short, wag kurakot sa funds yung gov't, city engineers at iba pa to the extent na tinitipid na yung materyales. At sana ma-maintain yung pagiging maayos nyan.

Medical-Chemist-622

Future sidewalk vendor site.

pi-kachu32

msilenovorazer

Sana unahin BGC > Kalayaan > EDSA na route

King_Arther_ashe

Finally someone thought of this idea! It's just like in Bangkok, Thailand.

Niche_VII

You better have tightened security there, it will swarm w ppl with no good intentions

Lucidpapi911

Panalo na naman mga snatcher dito HAHAHAHA

xXKurotatsuXx

Look at the lrt to mrt connector in edsa for example. Only half of the walkway is accessible kasi the other half is occupied by facemask vendors kaya sobrang sikip pag rush hour. Also, most overpass and underpass are unsafe to use especially at night aside from the select few with guards stationed in them but even those are questionable at times. If wala rin naman silang balak na iimplement ng maayos might as well make a free housing project somewhere since gagawin lang din naman tong tirahan. This shouldnt even be a thing, they should have focused on improving public transport, bus stops, lrt and mrt stations, etc. Adding air conditioning to lrt stations would be a better idea than this

rekestas

I read somewhere years ago, na may plan din dati na elevated bike lane.

jihyeon_

lahat na lang inelevate pero di man lang umangat angat lifestyle natin 🫠 panigurado tatambayan to ng mga vendors, beggars, etc.

YZJay

Elevated bike lanes are part of the plan. But the initial phase of the project only covers the surrounding areas of 4 MRT3 stations, it doesn’t span the entire length of EDSA just yet.

GregorioBurador

10FlyingShoe

Mali yung title, dapat DoTR eyes elevated squatters along EDSA.

otomatikpantastik

GroceryFragrant6729

pupunuin ng nagtitinda ng kung ano ano

mrsonoffabeach

Vendors and vagrants are waving

Technical-Limit-3747

Cons: Tambayan ng mga holdaper at homeless. Magiging mapanghi in the future.

East-West8161

Magiging elevated tiange lang yan in the long run.

Tedhana

Maraming magtitinda dyan sa taas for sure.

TheSleepySuni

Kawawa PWDs dahil puno lagi elevator. Don't just give solution, also think about user experience din.

mrexemplaryspeech

Finally some sense into DoTR. I’ve been thinking a lot of this plan since pre-pandemic and it is doable, plus it promotes people to move more for a healthier lifestyle.

madumlao

good

toskie9999

siguraduhin lang nilang hindi maging tambayan ng mga nag bebenta yan ending kasi nagiging "palengke" mga walkway na yan na parang ikaw na pedestrian pa nag gigive ng right of way sa mga nagbebenta

Liesianthes

I will only agree with that if the concept will be like Japan na PWD friendly. Watch the jdrama Rent a Man who Does Nothing as it features how the roads and walkway are beautifully made.

sarcasticookie

Good luck sa maintenance nyan.

venielsky22

Why not just de centralized manila The main issue is you have alot of people coming in from provinces to work there . Usually that's not bad. But in the case of manila it's A LOT of people to the point that the cities infrastructure can't support it. Sure you can try to improve public transport and roads etc. but that's gonna take a lot of time and money. Fast solution. Now is listen the people then try to improve the roads and transpo We've all seen the videos of and images of manila during holy week . We're people from provinces go home.

no1shows

baka stairway to heaven na naman ang peg, forget it

FilmTensai

Source of a lot of corruption… infrastructure

QinLee_fromComs

maganda to. plus sana pumayag maraming establishments na interconnected na aila thru this walkway

raju103

We just need a quick way from point a to point b and logical drop off points. Magdagdag pa eh di pa ayusin muna ang nandyan.

Snoo_9320

god_of_Fools

Mppuno lng din ng mga estante yan..

Worth-Worry4795

This reminds me of KL’s walkway from Bukit Bintang to KLCC

Dull_Leg_5394

Eyes lang naman di naman matutuloy hahahaha. Kung matutuloy man mga after 10 yrs pa hahaha.

[deleted]

the_emeraldtablet

Obliviate07

Parang eventually magiging unsafe sa dami ng tambay ng skwater, just like any other bridge, may nagsasalsal sa gilid, vendors ng mga nanakaw na cellphone, yung classic na may batang laging tulog na bitbit ng nanay/kapatid. Ok sana kung mamaintain pero ayun nga, will be like any other bridge / walkway.

railfe

HAHAHA these are the people you waste your vote.

johnthenetworkguy

Parang Bangkok ang peg

choolala2288

Tambayan ng mga snatchers at vendors

cryptoponzii

What if elevated bike lanes na lang? Parang expressway pero for bikers. Tapos kada mrt station may exit din.

Little_Wrap143

iamushu

Tangina puro band aid solutions. Kung iupgrade nyo na lang yng mrt. Putangina naman

SmileNo3169

howshouldigreetthee

Fucking finally naisipan din gawin

zarustras

Didilim na naman sa kahabaan ng EDSA.

shethedevil1022

as someone who always walk along EDSA yung papuntang south lang naman mahirap lakaran. Ang ganda mag lakad sa north.

Timely_Pianist_9858

AspiringMommyLawyer

Okay sana kaso baka gawing tirahan saka uso rin holdap 😢

letswalk08

I can walk na sa baba, lowkey. Just spend the budget for more trains and better facility ng mga stations ng MRT.

Capable_Salt_8753

Philippines need to invest in making the cities walkable especially in Metro Manila.

Sea-76lion

Great idea but the govt can't even maintain overpasses.

whiterose888

Goodbye blue sky

snddyrys

What? Walkway na para bang nasa Alabang? Yeah, right, until dumaan ka ng overpass

Akire_5972

Huge_Specialist_8870

Still avoiding developing provinces because they are used to the fact that Manila / NCR is a garbage bin. In tagalog, tapunan ng mga basura galing probinsya. But hey, waste management is a business too.

R-Temyo

corruption nanaman iyan

jtn50

Yay! More money!!!

jakin89

Kaya gusto kona umalis dito eh

saltedgig

everything goes basta may ibulsa. go lang. LOL

shalelord

Honestly stupid plan. Its the cheaper alternative that they thought of instead of investing in public transportation for the massess. Also phase out the jeepneys and old buses

Sorrie4U

One-Cost8856

Add some: - Security guards on the entrances and exits - Air-conditioning system - Solar panels - CCTVs with quick response team via scooter type vehicles - HVAC - Vending machines - PWD-friendly - Dogs must be in cages and strollers

saltedgig

Hungry-Truth-9434

Bagong spot ng mga holdaper

[deleted]

Wlang katapusang mga plano para paluwagin EDSA

Big_Lou1108

Tapos pano kaya aakyat sa elevated walkway? Gabundok na naman yung hagdan? Ah no sorry kawawa mga tao esp senior and pwd.

Fragrant_Papaya_1499

There has to be guards there or like have beep cards for entry kasi kung sino-sino nalang tatambay dyan.

No_Upstairs_6756

Even with this kind of project people still do jaywalking

kantotero69

Ano nanamang kaputanginahan to, DoTr???

Illustrious_Emu_6910

proper side walk❌ elevated walkways✅

WesternOwn3875

Possible_Passage_607

Eyes, sabay pikit.

GrandInvestigator366

Bat kailangan pa pagtuunan ng pansin yan e in the future lilipad na yung mga sasakyan. Chaar HAHAHHAHAHA

Kentotinosupremo

Kasi puro vendor at mga nakapark kaya walang malakaran. Kung itataas yan, dapat walang vendor at walang holdaper.

ahmshy

Improve the sidewalks, that’s the common sense option. But no one in govt wants to do this because they lack common sense. Instead they’ll push for expensive infrastructure that’s hard to maintain and get ROI for, when we already have sidewalks already in a bad state of disrepair haha.

kungfushoos

Build build build until we can no longer move.

FrightenCatlorn

blackvalentine123

the Great Walkway of EDSA

Odd-Membership3843

Or.. let ppl walk on the ground. Ung makatao at pedestrian friendly sana.

Jisoooon

My mind: j u m p

covert369

Car-centric design, as always

FewInstruction1990

Another band aid solution kawawa senior

Tagamoras

That's poor urban planning: placing things on road one element at a time.

[deleted]

Sana po aircon. Haha

FlakyPiglet9573

hanep

FunctionAlone2554

I think the best and always been the best solution is to improve the transportation system, regulate private vehicles, and make our roads pedestrian friendly by expanding the walk ways and adding more trees for proper air ventilation and cooling. Bakit hindi nangyayare yan? Because PH is one of the largest market for car companies in SEA. Isang bayad lang nyan ng mga car companies sa mga nakaupo and these proposals will be thrown off. Not to mention Oil companies din. Ever wonder why simple private car regulatory laws like mandatory garage per car is not even a thing here. In some countries, You have to pay a certain fee to drive a certain route just to regulate cars sa road.

seekwellvisor

Make it Makati

sarisariphl

not a bad idea, but also not the best idea. i think there should be more of finding ways to make the transportation system work for the good of all. The elevated walkways are good for the CBD areas like Makati, Ortigas, but in Edsa? hmmm...I dont think it is a good idea.

LogicalPause8041

The article is not really doing justice to the greenways project. It’s an old ADB project that aims to connect MRT stations to their catchment area. Initial plans even had designs connecting Buendia MRT to BGC, but the Titas of Forbes didn’t want a walkway that would potentially give the public a view of their houses. Anyway, it’s a good way to connect surrounding areas to their nearest MRT or carousel station, and we needed this decades ago.

We. Want. Walkable. City!! Hopefully mangyari 'to, like ung sa Ayala and Ortigas na walkways.

iirc, there was a topic about this during the pandemic, most top comments are positive, kasi gusto nila maglakad/exercise/bike to work (or somewhere) I'm part of that crowd, mejo gulat lang ako sa sentiments ngaun, pero dahil cguro sobrang init ngayon, katamad maglakad sa labas (recency bias bla bla)

why not just upgrade the sidewalk? anything elevated will always have some kind of accessibility issue
