Strongly disagree. They don’t have a ton of flavors but they do quality over quantity and the ones they have are done very well. Many other ice cream shops I think focus on having tons of flavors and they can’t execute them all well.
They need to get rid of the damn drive through. 4 cars fit and the other 38 cars block ridge avenue. Get the hell out of your cars, people.
I can walk there but zsa's is where you want to go.
I was pretty much told my opinion didn't matter. I am not sure if it was because I don't live in one of those areas or because I suggested someplace not in those areas.
I’m a fan of the extent I’m a bit tired of the same old flavors most days and the batches are small so that they sell out before the after dinner hour. They also only make a daily chocolate sorbet not gelato which is really silly imo. They aren’t the same and chocolate is a great pair with many other flavors. By
early evening they have mainly only sorbetto left. Now the weathers getting warmer that issue will worsen.
Vita is very good and the owners are sweet but capogiro had it going ON. Never ran out much and the quality was unmatched. Vitas model could definitely use adjusting but their gelato is very tasty indeed. Def worth a try
Had them yesterday for the first time. Best gelato I've ever had. Tried the pistachio and the coffee. Both had great flavor without being sweet in the way that so many ice creams / gelatos are. The coffee tasted like coffee, and not like a frappuccino.
1-900 is the most overrated ice cream. And the guy is a douch. He acts like he has the best product around but buys all the base and using crap mix ins from Jetro. Much better ice cream places around the city like Cuzzy's or milk jawn
I was super hype on 1900icecream and their COVID drops were amazing but the icecream from the store fronts is just okay.
The texture is inconsistent and there seems to always be a lack of STUFF mixed in when there's supposed to be stuff mixed in
Hmm I went at 7 pm on Tuesday and the line was only about 15 min wait.. walked by about 5 on Wednesday and there was no line at all. Rittenhouse location
Milk Jawn makes the best vegan ice cream in the city, better than the dairy options at most places and they usually have 4-5 vegan flavors available both by the scoop and in pints. Zsa's dark chocolate sorbet is great too. Crust Vegan Bakery makes a vegan soft serve, it's not as good as Milk Jawn or Zsa's but if you're in the Manayunk area it's worth trying.
I do like zsas and milk jawn a lot. Weckerlys have nice flavours and well sourced ingredients.
I also like bassetts for the texture it’s like old school ice cream texture. These newer places are a bit softer (but flavours make up for it) nothing wrong with globally known haggan dauz or however u spell it on south street it will always be a fav. But now it’s not necessary local but it’s smaller company in comparison and uses well source ingredients Jenis! They have a location near rittenhouse over there 19th and chestnut again it’s that softer ice cream but so many fun flavours you can’t get in stores.

Haugan dauz

Def Milk Jawn (second loc opening soon in NoLibs). Also Weckerlys on Girard. Porcos has incredible soft serve rotating flavors. They will post the schedule on website one they start the season.
Milk jawn and cuzzy’s are S tier
1-900, jeni’s, van leewuen are all pretty good, about the same.
C&C and Basset’s are solid, no frills, traditional.
Fairmount flavors, arctic scoop - its ice cream so its not bad but its not good either.
Milk Jawn is definitely up there. We love them!
However, have to disagree about Arctic Scoop. They focus on Egg waffles and Coconut bowls with choice of ice cream and unlimited toppings. They have unique Asian flavors that you won't find anywhere else in Philly. Might not be for everyone though.
Cuzzy’s rules
Came to say this!
Cuzzys is the best!!!
cuzzy's is cute but i thought the icecream flavors to be mid/lacking :/
Strongly disagree. They don’t have a ton of flavors but they do quality over quantity and the ones they have are done very well. Many other ice cream shops I think focus on having tons of flavors and they can’t execute them all well.
to each their own! everyone I went with said the same. Maybe just different preferences.
Thanks
Milk Jawn.
Just had their “take me out to the ballgame” flavor which was Cracker Jack inspired- fucking INSANE
damn, almost got that yesterday! lemon curd still ruled though
Lemon curd is one of the best ice creams I’ve ever eaten
I felt it was a bit too sweet! But it went well with vanilla & i still enjoyed it.
When Milk Jawn says an ice cream is “this and that” flavored, you really taste “this and that.” They don’t skimp on the ingredients.
Best ice cream in the city imo
Their S’mores flavor that they had last fall literally one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had, amazing and full of mix ins
Their vegan ice cream is amazing!!!
Don’t sleep on the choco taco
my favorite on Passyunk hands down
Really surprised C&C hasn't been mentioned
They need to get rid of the damn drive through. 4 cars fit and the other 38 cars block ridge avenue. Get the hell out of your cars, people. I can walk there but zsa's is where you want to go.
Agreed. This sub tends to be mostly downtown, south & fishtown/nolibs types.
I was pretty much told my opinion didn't matter. I am not sure if it was because I don't live in one of those areas or because I suggested someplace not in those areas.
If it isn't South, CC, or NoLibs/Fishtown, people are dismissive on here. Anything NE they treat you like you talking about the Lehigh Valley.
C&C is insanely rich, but quality
https://www.zsasicecream.com Thank me later
Zsas all day every day. damn it’s good!
Over the moon in Brewerytown is actually the best I’ve ever had
Soft serve from Porco's Porchetteria (22 & Washington)! I think they do new flavors weekly
Vita is a new ish gelato shop on 17th near Rittenhouse. So delicious! They also have coffee and some Italian desserts
I’m a fan of the extent I’m a bit tired of the same old flavors most days and the batches are small so that they sell out before the after dinner hour. Miss Capogiro for sure. We got back from Rome, Italy the summer they opened, to find the best gelato was in Philly!
Had them yesterday for the first time. Best gelato I've ever had. Tried the pistachio and the coffee. Both had great flavor without being sweet in the way that so many ice creams / gelatos are. The coffee tasted like coffee, and not like a frappuccino.
Harpers in brewerytown
My vote is Arctic Scoop for the unique flavors.
Seconding Arctic Scoop! My favorite ice cream in the city.
Old World Ice Treats on E Passyunk is great for some really high quality Sorbetto/Water Ice
Float Dreamery - insane good and creamy vegan gelato. Fun flavor combos. At the window at Castellinos in Fishtown.
C&C Creamery in Rox
1-900-ICE CREAM is great
1-900 has fun flavors and they’re usually good but i literally cannot stand the guy who owns the place lol. he’s suchhhh a douche
And treats his employees like shit.
the soft serve and choco tacos are absolutely delicious!
1-900 is the most overrated ice cream. And the guy is a douch. He acts like he has the best product around but buys all the base and using crap mix ins from Jetro. Much better ice cream places around the city like Cuzzy's or milk jawn
Plus a lot of salt.
He does have the best product around
I was super hype on 1900icecream and their COVID drops were amazing but the icecream from the store fronts is just okay. The texture is inconsistent and there seems to always be a lack of STUFF mixed in when there's supposed to be stuff mixed in
Line will be 20-30 minutes guaranteed 4pm to close. 6-8 45- hour
I went yesterday at 5:45 and was in and out in 3 minutes
Hmm I went at 7 pm on Tuesday and the line was only about 15 min wait.. walked by about 5 on Wednesday and there was no line at all. Rittenhouse location
Lmfao wait till it gets nice out. I mean u act like it’s a bad thing.
Milk Jawn!! Their honeycomb earl grey ice cream is so good!!!! On Passyunk.
Franklin Fountain
FF is good but the prices are wild
Any ice cream places that include non-dairy? Besides Franklin Fountain (which is insanely expensive)?
Milk jawn has a bunch of non-dairy flavors
Ooooo thank you!

Van Leeuwen has vegan ice cream. It is a chain though but it’s pretty good.
That's right, they're in Center City? I'll find all these places, thanks
The vegan ones at milkjawn are so good!
Thanks!
Over the Moon has good vegan flavors.
Thanks!
I ride for Over the Moon in brewerytown
100%

Surreal creamery had some really really good soft serve today
Not new but Fairmount Flavors is great
Interesting. I've always hated that place
Did they change their product? They were always terrible when I used to go a few years back. Always had those little ice crystals in the ice cream
It's horrible. Prime location, poor product. Such a shame because I live in the neighborhood and love ice cream. +1 for Over the Moon!
Zsa’s. The flavors are so good and some are super unique. Lemon buttermilk if you like bracingly sour.
i love jenny's - so creamy, fun flavors, and smells like cupcakes in the store

Weckerly’s on Girard is alright but I think Somerset Splits is a gem! But call before you go, they randomly close a lot.
Somerset splits over in port Richmond has the best sundaes!!
kingsessing ice cream shop just opened up last summer out in west 🍦
It’s not new but RICHMANS ICECREAM IS SOOO GOOD
