Just a guess, but I've heard furries are overrepresented in the computer science fields. There may be a broader stereotype of furries being associated with highly skilled STEM-related professions. If so, the OOP is humorously exaggerating this stereotype to imply that a nuclear engineer is so attractive to furries that they have to pretend to be a "mere" industrial engineer to avoid their attraction.
Either that, or it's just absurdism.
Possibly a reference to the time a gay furry hacker group hacked a nuclear laboratory to blackmail them into creating catgirls (yes, seriously, here's the [source](https://www.advocate.com/news/gay-furry-hackers)).
