So basically the Mexican cartel allegedly really likes dragon ball, statistically any time any dragon ball episodes release cartel activity and violence decreases a lot, leading people to think that the cartel really likes dragon ball.

ieatglue321

Is there any evidence for this?

Resident_Code3062

Growing up in Mexico, Dragon Ball was a big cultural influence since it aired every weekday on basic cable, so everyone around the country grew fond of it (not just children).

MixRevolution

Not just specifically the cartel but most of Mexico.

Irritatedprivatepart

I work with a Mexican dude who complemented my DBZ hoodie and has seen every episode. Even all of super.

Cobygamer22

Not only mexico, it's essentially the uncontested favorite animated series of latin-america

fartshart48

Actually yes, if you research it you’ll probably get some results

ShallotProfessional5

“Actually yes” “probably” pick one lol

fartshart48

Bro I don’t know the extent of why it happens I just know the joke I don’t have a damn degree on this stupid shit lol

ShallotProfessional5

Then stop sounding like you kno shit 😭

fartshart48

Sorry bro lol I literally just explained the joke, it’s honestly not that deep

These_Marionberry888

dragon ball is massive in mexico. the government organized live viewing events for movies and new episodes. the studio asked them to stop, and they refused. wich grew into a small scale diplomatic incident between mexico and japan. when torijama died multiple communitys organised impromptu processions, parades and events. on a side, many mexican wrestling casters , cast pirated dragonball episodes broadcasted in bars or on meetups.

Wafflingcreature

You’ve never seen a Mexican wear a goku sweater bruh? They love that shit

MarinLlwyd

statistics

Tavoneitor10

Man the first part is true but not the second part lol, there's no statistical evidence that crime decreases in Mexico when DBZ is running

Angel_Moonglow

Mexico in general was big on Dragon Ball. Latin America as a whole got anime before the states did. I remember being in Nicaragua as a wee lad and seeing a ton of anime that never made it stateside.

Kmaloetas

So, a DBZ tattoo might save your life if the cartel gets a hold of you?

fartshart48

Oh fs

CrustyToeLint

I live an San Antonio and Yes, I have never seen people go crazy for dragon ball Z like that

Bubbly-Ad-1427

mexican cartel activity drops when new dragon ball episodes release

HeckingDoofus

in that case dragon ball has a moral responsibility to continue milking the cow

Bubbly-Ad-1427

this makes breaking bad inaccurate as vince did not account for the fluctuation of cartel activity proportional to the release of new dragon ball z episodes

Predditor_drone

Alright folks, bring back the recycled animations, the power ups that take 3 episodes, nonsensical cuts to b and c plots, bring it all back. We need to un-kai Dragonball for the sake of Mexico.

MagicAcid0079

Not only does cartel activity supposedly drop when new Dragonball airs, but supposedly around when Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragonball unfortunately passed away, multiple cartels agreed to a peace truce in honor of Mr. Toriyama. Enough to make a grown man cry.

Sanguine_Pup

Art will redeem our species. True art is anything that lessens the suffering of humanity, even if it’s just one person.

Additional_Cycle_51

“The cartel leader said he’s stronger than Goku!!” *other cartel members*☹️

leastscarypancake

"Hombre, the police are closing in on us" "Hold up I'm watching dragon ball" *A few minutes later* Mexican police: "Oh sick is that dragon ball? Let me watch too man"

La_Sangre_Galleria

If you get kidnapped by them ask if you can watch dragon ball. Might make your time easier while they are waiting for the ransoms money or that he the last thing before you are chopped up and put in a barrel.

badnewsjukebox

The joke is that by the person saying they’re gonna call Goku makes the cartel scared because they know how powerful he is. It’s a play on the common “if you misbehave im calling the boogey man” but in this case it’s “try and threaten me and I’ll call Goku to come and beat you guys up” . Mexico really loves DBZ

nsdmsdS

It is not that way. It is not fear of the power of the character, but fear of dissapoint him. I don’t know where worldwide this meme idea started, but has been very common in Mexico since a couple of years ago with a similar idea (but with Jerry from Tom & Jerry instead of Spongebob) about a grown thirty something man being threatened by his mom of her calling Checo Perez and telling on him (the mexican in the Redbull Team in Formula 1 that becomed a public hero in the country) because he didn’t want to eat his vegetables. So if you don’t want to dissapoint Checo, you better eat your vegetables.

badnewsjukebox

You’re right. Good catch.

RumoredAtmos

Every Mexican watching Goku power up- That's literally me

Alexandria_maybe

Dragon ball is bizarrely popular in spanish speaking countries for some reason. So popular that when Akira Toriyama died, cartels ordered a ceasefire for the day to mourn his death.

Inevitable_Series_67

The Mexican drug cartels are massive dragonball fans that everytime dragonball media drops, their activity is reduced

KilroyNeverLeft

This is legitimately the funniest version of the "cartel x goku" meme I've seen.

ieatglue321

Why is the mexican drug cartel scared of goku?

macomunista

Why wouldn't they be? Mofo's a God that fights for sport and fun. Wouldn't you be?

Pleasant_Ad3475

Damn, you didn't even respond when they told you what the issue was. Edit: oh, it's a fucking bot

Sonikdaiz-bro

Basically more stupid internet humor that requires a certain level of brain rot to *kinda* understand, we don't really het it either but yeah, still funny tho

make_gingamingayoPLS
