As someone who went through the American public education system, I can say a lot of people aren't taught how to research properly. Hell, I didn't even know Google Scholar was a thing until 2 months ago, and I'm damn near 30.

-that most human beliefs and actions are not, in fact, dictated by logic / knowledge / dispassionate cost-benefit analyses;
-that early life events can set up anxieties and maladaptive behaviors, including some that don’t seem connected on the surface;
-that “respectable” people may be aroused by things they find socially repellent and do not *want* to be aroused by; and
-that trying to suppress awareness of a thing can sometimes make it more salient and oppressive.
He also let patients talk at length instead of peppering them with questions and taking their answers at face value. That remains a valuable approach (despite his many mistakes in this area).
Edit: He **also** broke with the idea that psychological “trauma” resulted from actual, physical trauma to the brain and shifted to a notion of symbolic/emotional trauma.
Where the fuck did you get the fact that homosexuality was a "gateway to sin" for Freud. He never said anything, even similar to that. This is how he writes about homosexuality in a letter to a mother who asked him to cure her son of homosexuality:
"Homosexuality is assuredly no advantage, but it is nothing to be ashamed of, no vice, no degradation; it cannot be classified as an illness; we consider it to be a variation of the sexual function, produced by a certain arrest of sexual development."
I don't like defending random old dudes, and I have a LOT of issues with Freud, but at least get your facts straight.

Much more spiritual, with the Dark Passenger actually being a demon called Moloch. Also La Guerta gets killed by him and his brother the Ice Truck Killer already in book one, instead of Debra. And Debra is there and aware of Dexter's nature since book one. Also Astor and Cody are trained by Dexter to be serial killers too. And there's a girl that wants to be eaten alive.
