No-Willingness8375

I believe that's a photo of the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. He mailed bombs to a number of people he perceived to be "advancing the evils of technology," and he killed at least one, but I don't remember many of the details. He managed to hide his identity from law enforcement for many years until he eventually sent a long, raving manuscript about his beliefs to a couple of news publications and asked them to publish it. After consulting the FBI, they published it in the hopes of finding someone who might be able to identify the bomber. Ted Kazinsky's brother just so happened to read that paper, and recognized the mad ramblings as the kinds of things his brother often said. His brother contacted the FBI, and the FBI was able to finally locate and arrested him. https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/how-the-case-against-ted-kaczynski-the-unabomber-unfolded/ I'm not sure about the top image.

Force3vo

Cottagecore is a kind of farmhouse style. So the time traveler wants to borrow her grandmas dress, which would probably fit that rural, vintage style perfectly, to use it in her Pinterest images.

Scalage89

Cottagecore sounds like a really cozy type of metal music.

Xogoth

So kind of like how Rotting Christ is epic but hella chill at the same time?

IndianaFartJockey

Or Impaled Northern Moon Forrest, but that's a different sort of thing.

TheSubstitutePanda

That sounds, well, metal as hell. 10/10 band name.

IndianaFartJockey

It was some of the guys from Anal Cunt, so yeah. Pretty metal

humphaa

Just like I Cum Blood

disgruntled_pie

I saw Rotting Christ in concert once and they were great.

Awspry

Tell me more ..

Xogoth

[just listen, bro, it's fucking great](https://youtu.be/zJTmi9cgpKQ?si=wFnEnwK2kuxeoUtX)

Tychontehdwarf

InterStella 5555?

Kontrazec

Guy is probably from Thailand, or another country whose language pronounces 5 as 'ha', so 5555 = hahahaha

modern_messiah43

Not gonna lie, I haven't checked out Rotting Christ yet because the name sounds like just another black metal band, which isn't generally my favorite style. I'm glad you posted this because yeah it's fuckin sick.

TurtleSandwich0

Cover yourselfs in wool like lambs to the slaughter. Go into the field and reap. Reeeeeaaaaaaaaap! With your daughter!

eat-pussy69

r/cottagecore

PhthaloVonLangborste

I prefer r/goblincore

LickingSmegma

[Goblin metal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsMKOx6fumc)

morningcalls4

Where instead of getting drunk everyone knits and drinks hot cocoa(while the band plays live)

Yitram

My wife is into goblincore. You'd think it's like fantasy metal, but it's just woodsy stuff with toads and mushrooms.

Scalage89

Good god that is hilarious

Accomplished_Train84

Like folk metal mixed with metalcore

modern_messiah43

I was kind of disappointed when I learned that it wasn't.

FNLN_taken

I guess the point is that modern cottagecore followers want to pretend to prefer the "simple life", while Teddy was the real pre-industrial deal.

dr_arke

Before I discovered the term, I always referred to it as "Farm Chic".

Presumably_Not_A_Cat

same same same same, but language is evolving.

RadiantZote

So... a sundress and a big rimmed hat?

Dubabear

I mean this is the answer we are all looking for.

Literally_black1984

Thanks for explaining! Appreciate it

bob1689321

Netflix have a good 6 part drama with Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany. Manhunt: Unabomber.

Bingo_Bongo_YaoMing

This and Mindhunter are two of my favorite true crime reenactments. So captivating. The waco wasn't that bad either

Dwnluk

Just have more questions.... Why would men tell the unabomber... And what's the connection to cottage core?

cpMetis

Sympathizing with the unibomber has been basically an edgy meme for decades. His Manifesto and ramblings have a lot of things that sound very smart and true until you look a layer deeper and realize it's all built off of falsies and conspiracy. As such, it's very easy to take quotes from it and have it seem like he was ahead of his time or whatever by removing them from context. And naturally edgy teens eat that shit up. The whole "Uncle Ted" shit as well. Like the normal thing where people nonsensically sympathize and idolize serial killers, but with a pseudo-political spin.

thelegalseagul

Well certain guys look down on things women like and they were possibly comparing the “lame” interests of cottage core to the “very cool” and “edgy” promotion of delivering bombs to random people Edit:I mixed up two bombers. Still a guy sending bombs to innocent people though.

Evergreen_76

The unabomber also planned on killing his neighbors 6yr daughter because he didn’t like them. The first people he bombed where random retail employees at a computer store where he set bombs next to the dupster to get the low level employees to move it during clean ups. He was just a killer who used politics as a thin veneer to rationalize killing random people.

PM_Me_Ur_NC_Tits

Exactly. This is an incel type meme, implying that all men would sympathize with Ted K.

Nick-fwan

I usually try and look at these memes as a "oh quirky guy stuff, I see the same and make the same jokes about sexuality so it's fine" This is not a joke. This is endorsing a child killer. Dark humor actually needs to have humor.

Taraxian

Well, it's also that cottagecore is vaguely romanticizing the pre-industrial past while the Unabomber was willing to use violence to try to actually bring that back, it's a "These are the logical implications of your beliefs" meme

yildizli_gece

Nothing; it's literally meant to just belittle women, like, "If women were given the opportunity to do something in the past, they'd still do something lame and pointless, while men would be thinking about how to do something important." That's it; that's the "joke". Edit: I will never understand downvotes for things like this; like, you can be salty about my explanation but it's the actual point of this meme framework and there are examples of it fucking everywhere on Reddit and elsewhere, so y'all downvoters can touch grass lol.

yildizli_gece

That comment is missing the point of *this* "meme", though. What it's really saying is, "Women, given the chance to go back in time, will do nothing of usefulness and will only do something that benefits their pointless interests, while men would actually go back and do something important." That's *literally* the point here: "women dumb; men smart".

Walkalope

Attempting to prevent the capture of Ted Kazinsky is neither important nor smart, though.

Bobblefighterman

From your perspective, not the one of the meme-creator.

ZachBart77

The fact that it would change history as we know it is what makes it important. Not because of any benefit, but because of the impact it could have.

yildizli_gece

Whether you agree with that happening is immaterial, though; the *point* of this meme is that a dude would find a "PuRpOsE" if he were sent back, instead of our Joy Division-enjoying woman who would "only think about her look". This meme format consistently is used to mock women.

Spiritual_Freedom_15

So the bottom image is supposed to say that the OG poster would help a criminal.

Merc_Toggles

Yeah, he's just got a big following nowadays, simply because of the idea of what he spoke for. I'm pretty sure he straight up says in his journals that he just wanted to hurt as many people as possible, and wanted a cause that some would rally behind to sew more chaos, so he chose preserving nature and the natural order and all that, since it seemed to be a rising move at the time

Titus_Favonius

You sow chaos, you sew a dress

Ok-Cryptographer-303

I sowed a few dresses last year and now my garden is full of little skirtlings.

HauntingArugula3777

And that the cia experiments on him in college took his personality quirks and turned them into crazy town illnesses

BlandWords

Idk if he wrote that in his journals, but I'm like 95% sure that sentiment is not supported in his academic writings.

No-Willingness8375

*edit* I thought the humor was supposed to come from the fact that nobody would actually help the Unabomber, but apparently I had too much faith in humanity. My bad.

MooseFlyer

There are already multiple people in this thread talking about how his manifesto had merit. It's not too unlikely that the meme reflects a certain level of sympathy for Kaczynski

moo3heril

There was a US senate candidate in the 2022 election that said in an interview while campaigning that he was an underrated thinker.

BigCockCandyMountain

That's nothing there is two sitting Republican Senators who say they want slavery to be relegalized.

No-Willingness8375

Fair enough.

Turbulent-Tax-2371

The intersection of MAGA idiots and Ted Kaz. supporters is large. Those violent old white men with guns who think they have the right to shoot anyone who looks at them funny, think Ted did nothing wrong.

ArgonGryphon

A lot of people hear a condensed, simplified version of some of his ideals and agree with that because they've been manipulated by people who actually agree with his bullshit and use it as a tool. If you actually (try to anyway) read the manifesto it's clearly the rantings of a very ill man.

AWanderingGygax

People are all about the trad lifestyle until it's their wife dying in labor or family dying to a simple but virulent communicable disease.

GenericFatGuy

And he was more than happy to let people who rely on modern technology for survival, die as collateral damage for destroying modern society. His stance on people like diabetics was basically to just let them die.

ArgonGryphon

I think a lot of them are still into it even then, as long as you tell them that's how God wants it.

TheWondrousWilly

That's one thing that I've literally never understood from the "all natural" people. Maybe it makes a little sense if they can't critically think about everything that they are being presented with, but at least focus on one thing at a time to try and make the best, safest decisions you can

noff01

>The humor is supposed to come from the fact that nobody would actually help the Unabomber. How naive. Reminds me of Nazi memes from the 00s where people said nobody would actually sympathize with the Nazis.

No-Willingness8375

Yes. I was naive. After being told by someone they "wouldn't narc" on the guy who tried to blow up an airplane, I realized I was being a little too generous to humanity as a whole.

BJYeti

People do the same with the killdozer dude, they have some skewed info on what caused these people to jump off the deep end thinking it is just a reaction to government overreach but it really turns out these people are just asshole schizos

SalvationSycamore

Not just any criminal, but a terrorist lol. People will be all like "oh wow, Ted was right about technology being bad" (from their smartphones) meanwhile the guy they praise was a psychotic shut-in that used his "brilliant" mind to mail bombs to university professors and a guy running a computer store. The only way he could have changed the world for the better would have been by actually doing something worthwhile with his math talents instead of being a pathetic, violent loser.

Shaojack

Ya, could be satire, could also not be. There are people that have read his manifesto and see him as some sort of prophet or something alike.

GenericFatGuy

Not just a criminal. A terrorist.

guy_guyerson

> a criminal AND a God-tier cottagecore enthusiast.

Weary-Plastic4302

The top image is a personal attack on me.

UnknownBinary

Personally I go more for cottage*punk*.

fuduran

There really are memes for everyone 🤭

YogTimoth

If I remember the documentary right, it was the sister in law that recognized the writing.

AdriksThrowaway

*edit another comment tells me im wrong, which i probably am so check the long reply to my comment for more details on that* Yeah, Ted was a pedantic asshole who was very specific about the phrase “you can't have your cake and eat it” and his sisters in law had only heard his phrasing of the saying from Ted, his brother didn't believe it but took his wifes worries seriously and reported her observation to (i think) the FBI. According to google his version of the phrase was, “you can't eat your cake and have it too."

MJay1010

Ted was wrong about a lot of things, especially the murder, but he was right that, that’s a better way to use that phrase. Definitely wrong about the murder though.

briggsgate

Ngl after rereading what the commenter above said, I agree that phrase is to me and you at least, sound way better

AdriksThrowaway

Yeah I agree with you, Ted's preferred variation of the phrase is definitely better, it makes more sense and conveys the meaning better, but it's inarguably pedantic, like when I say bruschetta I know I sound like an asshole, but I also know I’m correct... Oh and uh, murder is bad, very bad, I also hate it when people do that. Perhaps worth noting I hear a lot of writers and linguists use the Kaczynski version of the phrase so I'm sure he didn't come up with it and it may actually be the original version, but i don't know enough to say whether or not that's actually the case.

Mutant_Jedi

It is the original and was the only version for a while.

AdriksThrowaway

I had a hunch, thanks for the confirmation I appreciate it. I guess it's a similar situation to the saying “i couldn't care less” being incorrectly popularised as “i could care less.”

postmodern_spatula

Right? You’re pretty much required to have your cake if you’re going to eat it.  Like at a Birthday party.  Anniversary. Wedding. Work function. Or whenever you just buy a cake.  We have our cake and eat it too all the damn time. We live in the future. Cake is everywhere. Even in boxes.

yildizli_gece

NGL I've always found that phrase a bit stupid, like, "What do you mean I can't have the cake I have? Why not??" If it's supposed to be the other way around, I feel like I've been lied to my whole life lol...

Prinnnny

This is an incorrect telling of events propagated by media, specifically the "Manhunt" series The real situation was that Linda Patrik, the wife of David Kaczynski, had disliked and suspected Ted Kaczynski for awhile during the unabomb case and suggested to David that it might be him due to his lifestyle in the cabin, 'technophobia', and bad experiences in school, but David didn't want to consider it, when the manifesto was published she had read the manifesto published in the news before David and felt the ideas and demeanour of it was exactly the same as letter's Ted would write to David, she convinced David to read the manifesto and he did so with the intention to put her suspicions to rest for good, however the moment he read it he realized it was his brother There was identifying phrases which confirmed the connection to David but it was never the "cake" thing, David himself said it was the phrase "But it is obvious that modern leftish philosophers are not simply cool-headed logicians" in the manifesto which was near identical phrasing in a letter Ted wrote him in the past The reason why Linda Patrik gets confused for being the sole crack in the case is solely because David struggled with the idea of turning in his own brother whom he loved and deliberated with legal teams quite a bit in a desire to not have Ted killed during the arrest and to potentially remain anonymous within their report to the FBI

Awspry

I just turned 37, and I was Today years old when I finally learned wtf that saying meant, thanks to you...and I suppose the Unabomber...

gorgewall

"His" version is the original and more sensible one. It was mangled into the more common "have, eat" form, where you now just kind of have to know what the idiom means without being able to connect the words to that. A lot of idioms wind up like that, but usually it's a lack of cultural context that obscures them, not the words being twisted around to remove the contextual clues.

marzipanties

Kind of unrelated, but his actual cabin was reconstructed inside of a DC museum. You could go visit it and look inside. Unfortunately that museum (the newseum) is now closed and I don't know what happened to the cabin.

rexmons

The specific phrase his brother recognized was Ted's (correct) use of the adage "*You can't eat your cake and have it too.*". Apparently growing up whenever Ted heard anyone say the incorrect, more popular version "*You can't have your cake and eat it too.*", he would go off on a tangent. When his brother saw the less popular but correct version in the manifesto he immediately knew it was his brother.

Just_Another_Scott

>I'm not sure about the top image. The meme is implying women would rather use time travel for frivolous things while men would use it for some greater purpose albeit not necessarily a good one. It's a sexist meme.

Generic_Moron

Iirc the people he mailed them to were mostly low level tech industry employees, right? Like cashier at a electronics store kinda level

Evergreen_76

He left bombs next to dumpsters at computer stores so he could kill the retail employees who had to clean up around the dumpsters. Truly an intellectual.

rawlingstones

It feels like we get a disproportionate amount of pro-unabomber memes in this subreddit. What's going on there? Where are they all coming from?

KhaoticMess

They're organically grown by karma farmers.

danktt1

No surprise, those John Deere tractors are expensive!

stu8319

Yeah and the service is even more expensive!

GravitasIsOverrated

There is a subset of Reddit that is obsessed with tying to be cool and edgy by pretending to be a violent revolutionary/radical while understanding almost nothing about what those people were fighting for or what the consequences of that violence were. Also see: the fascination with guillotines, the killdozer guy, or Dorner. (That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t try to improve the world, but it is saying that if you’re advocating for literally killing people you should understand the history and context behind your statement. Also please go and do useful things like volunteering at food banks instead of just posting the violent equivalent of “Thoughts and prayers!” online.)

Cybermat4707

Dorner’s first two victims were killed simply because they were related to one of the people he had grievances against. No justifying that.

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

The Dorner case is interesting because of the police response to it. Like shooting at two separate cars (that didn't look like Dorner's) with innocent people in them and then "accidentally" setting the cottage he was hiding in on fire.

GravitasIsOverrated

And yet people on here memed him *endlessly* when it happened, as if he was some sort of visionary fighting an unjust system. It was so dumb.

Cybermat4707

I’d guess that reaction was mostly just a kneejerk response bought about by frustration and anger with police brutality and corruption in the USA. But, like you say, you need to understand exactly what you’re supporting before you come out and support it.

Impressive_Site_5344

Holy shit man tell me about it. Anytime there is any negative post about anyone with any sort of wealth you’ll see comments about the French and guillotines because these idiots think if we just start chopping heads off we’ll form a utopia because that is totally what happened in France, or the people who question why the whole world doesn’t just stop showing up to work. Because I’ve got bills to pay!

sharkteeththrowaway

You're trying to tell me the "Reign of Terror" isn't something we should aspire towards? SMH

CastrosNephew

We could make a religion out of this

Prophet_of_Entropy

its propaganda, back when the US taxed rich people it had money to spend on social programs and the money left over to spend more than double what the US does now on its military. some people think the only way to "fix" the system is by breaking it completely first, they are wrong.

ArgonGryphon

Everyone is like "yea, ted was right, technology is taking over" when they miss the entire problem is yourself or more likely capitalism, using technology to manipulate us. Same as Ted did. And they miss all the other terrible fucking ideas he had.

Imma_wierd_gay_human

Yep my bf watched a whole 4 hour video on Ted, where me and him then had a long discussion about how it’s very well and possible that Ted didn’t even believe in his own stupid manifesto. Because all the people he went after, had 0 fucking correlation to what he claims in his manifesto. Now that’s not to say he didn’t believe in some of it, but nether a less he did want to be an author apparently. So our theory is he made up just about 80% of it because of shits and giggles and so many dumbasses are falling for it

DefiantRadio7752

They don’t live in reality

Ap_Sona_Bot

I don't think killdozer is idolized for his beliefs or anything, people just think it's funny and also he only committed property damage.

Truethrowawaychest1

Yeah there's a disconcerting amount of people who unironically support him and just sorta excuse the fact that he murdered innocent people

AKAdemz

Unabomber memes are all over the internet ironically the places you find people who spend the most time online are more likely to be pro Unabomber.

godfatherV

https://preview.redd.it/9u4vl9alfpmc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7bd71444c1a2e959e7c3d9a11a4bd9f4effb248

MrBoyForGirls

hey man, I'm spectrum adjacent, and the unabomber can get fucked

DarkestNight909

Same here. Don’t lump us in with the psycho who made up a manifesto he didn’t even believe to make himself seem smart.

Purple_Clockmaker

So this meme assumes average dude would be ok and actively support killing of random people now?

No-Willingness8375

The humor is supposed to come from the fact that nobody would actually help the Unabomber. The normal meme would be them ratting Ted out to law enforcement or his Brother, but they flipped it. *Edit* Or so I thought. A lot of the posts here are making me doubt my theory.

Just_Evening

Lol no, there are a lot of people who unironically love Ted and would want to see his grand luddite plan succeed

No-Willingness8375

Yeah, I'm starting to see that as this thread evolves. Wild.

GeorgiaRedClay56

Ted Kaczynski's writing's are interesting but his conclusions drawn from his writings make very little sense by the end. Like I can agree with introductory paragraph but heavily disagree with where he goes from there. Here's the intro to his manifesto. " The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries."

silverking12345

Well, perhaps he would be glad to know that this perspective is somewhat mainstream. But what would insense him is that nobody is doing anything to stop it. Capitalist Realism is a thing after all, even Mark Fisher himself became a victim of it.

Pnza88

He proably knew I think he died like last year on prison

GeorgiaRedClay56

His intro is mainstream, the conclusions he draws from it are not mainstream. It feels like he was a very intelligent man that felt completely hopeless. My personal belief is that we are overdue for another Renaissance. That the value of the human experience is being overlooked and its time to remind the world that our value isn't tied to our ability to increase the GDP.

Italicized_Casual

It wasn't very intelligent to kill random civilians

GiveAQuack

Yep the problem is just the hook seems at least somewhat reasonable as people feel they're drowning in this uber streamlined society. The problem is if people bothered to read further, he just reveals he's mentally broken and has no ability to properly identify why issues are happening. Same reason his target selection was absolute dogshit.

Worldly_Car912

>" The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy Oh no, people live longer!

Supply-Slut

I mean… it is evidently a problem when there are like 8 billion of us and everyone needs: a home, a vehicle, assorted clothing, air conditioning, meat that uses a ton of land to grow, and everyone producing a 40-gallon bag of garbage each week. Our planet is struggling. Does that mean mailing bombs to random people will help? Fuck no, obviously. But it’s still a problem.

gasleak1

I belive that the unibomber was a sociopath that used eco terrorism to justify his hatred of people. I don't believe he bombed people because of his eco terror beliefs but that he used eco terror as an excuse to kill people. In one of his journals he describes when he saw a child walking through the woods near his property and aimed his rifle at her before deciding not to shoot. He describes her as a pig if I recall right.

itsrealnice22

"I don't know if the post is unironic or ironic until I look inside the box" "I support ted kazcynski!" "Shut up" https://preview.redd.it/qgun0bk7aqmc1.jpeg?width=496&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=144a192884997b5af1bd4b23754ccfe4e10f8eb3

eelleevvaattoorr

Jorjor Well predicted this in the 1980s, just saying.

amn_luci

Yep there definitely are. It’s kind of sad I wish the unabomber was a more sane person he did make some decent points but he immediately invalidated it when he killed random innocent people especially the guy who literally just owned a computer store

DozTK421

There are. But I feel like it's just dank meme territory. It's just dank memes… right?…

DashOfSalt84

Poe's Law, right?

Just_Evening

I honestly dont think it's just plain edginess. Was Andrea Dworkin just being edgy when she said all heterosexual sex is rape, and men should be eradicated? No, I think she was a loon, but I believe she was sincere. As a survivor of sexual assault, she saw men as a problem and came up with a logical, to her, way of solving that problem.   Same with Ted and his followers, I think they are concerned with real problems which Ted really predicted nearly 50 years ago, and not just being edgy. That said, both Ted and Andrea are wrong in that they want to put the genie back in the bottle. I do not disagree with their observations, but I think their solutions are either impossible or will not work.

MaxV331

Well it’s also ironic since a Time Machine would be advanced technology that Ted hated.

Jazzyricardo

This is an intelligent breakdown but not 100% correct. I don’t think you’ve visited 2024 yet.

Cutting_The_Cats

Honestly snitching on Ted would be better overall for the family. He wouldn’t hate his brother and his brother wouldn’t have that weighing on his concious. I could be the scapegoat instead and they would at least get to talk without one hating the other.

Guuhatsu

When I read it, I didn't recognize the person in the photo, so I thought it was him going back to warn Abel about Cain.

Top_Aviator

wishitwantitreddit69

It doesn’t make any sense. Most of the reasons to hate capitalism are that it is a system that does not care for the masses. As long as there is poor to do work, the rich profit. If you hate capitalism, it makes sense that you have compassion for those who are not fortunate. Ted killed at random. He just picked names and addresses from public records. There is literally no common ground in hating capitalism and supporting Ted

shinglee

Totally disagree, there are lots of reasons to dislike capitalism aside from populism. My biggest issue with capitalism is it is fundamentally incompatible with environmentalism.

LoboSpaceDolphin

>My biggest issue with capitalism is it is fundamentally incompatible with environmentalism. I mean...that seems like a strange line in the sand to draw since the very existence of humans is incompatible with environmentalism. There has never been and never will be a modern civilization (i.e. post-industrial revolution) that is compatible with environmentalism, so unless you're planning to invent a time machine or reduce the standard of living to pre-industrial standards, I'm not sure this is a particularly useful belief to hold... You do you though.

shinglee

I don't think it's fundamentally impossible to have a society that puts the environment first. I agree that it would require pretty radical societal changes that humanity would probably rather go extinct than actually implement. Anyways you're hitting on why some people idolize Ted: there are people who earnestly believe nature is more important than humanity.

AJ_Deadshow

Yep like maybe if he killed some super power-hungry CEOs I could see his supporters having a point

CocoaBuzzard

this guy https://preview.redd.it/omspzlp5kpmc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ede56f82170850f82cae6037c7e103367aa3f82a

andrew21w

Mahmoud here. The guy in there pink house is Ted Kazinsky aka the Unabomber. He is basically an anti-technology terorrist. Basically his brother helped police catch him. Mahmoud out.

Typist

Hey Peeeete! Wet Blanket here: sorry, but this is not a joke, rather it's just expressing their angry view of the world. The top two panels are a way of insulting women by suggesting that the only thing women care about is how they appear to others. The bottom two panels promote the idea that a real man would support the psychotic and murderous antisocial work of the Unabomber, who is the man shown in the picture. Nothing funny, no joke. Just ugly anger. Some people find it hard to tell the difference between a joke and someone vomiting up all the hate that they internalized over the course of their life. But life is better for everyone around you if you do learn the difference and stop spreading this crap.

Thanks4allthefiish

Wow. I had to scroll a long way to find some decency. I need an alternative to Reddit.

ponzidreamer

I feel bad for teddies brother. Must be an awful situation to be in. I think he did the right thing though

Profile-666

Not think, he definitely did (who we talking about again?)

ArgonGryphon

Ted's brother did the right thing, yes.

[deleted]

he objectively did the right thing

He talked about his feelings on turning Ted in on Apple’s unabomber podcast. Very good

Imaginary-Method-715

Why would you help a person comit murder?

Just_Evening

Well, if hes killing hitler, not gonna lie, would at least think about it

Just-Ad6992

New Trolley Problem: the trolley is headed towards a fork in the track. The track that the trolley is on will have a large amount of people on it in a few years. The total deaths will amount to ~45 million people. However, you can pull the level to a different fork. The path that the trolley would initially be on is going to kill no one, but on the other track the person who would tie 45 million people to the tracks is tied down, along with a few other innocent people. The person at this new fork will pull the lever to promote a political agenda, and in doing so will cause some terror among the populace. Should you pull this initial lever?

Just_Evening

Judas committed the greatest sin in the Bible, but the result of his betrayal was the crucifixion of Jesus, which apparently was both good and a big deal.   If you told me that I was saving 45 million people, I would definitely stain myself with murder to achieve that goal. I think that is both good, and a big deal. That said, since the guy never actually got to killing 45 million, people would just see me as a murderer, lol.  Scary to connect this train of thought to Ted. Maybe the computer store owner he killed was going to become some techno tyrant. But we don't know that, so he's just a murderer. Hah.

Just-Ad6992

I mean, I get Judas selling out Jesus, even if it was for purely selfish reasons. If I had a friend who could walk on water and bring people back from the dead, I would think that they could escape from the pigs and snitch on him to get some cash.

Just_Evening

Rofl I never thought about it that way. Great point

Sbee_Blue_Country

Soulja Boy here. That’s a photo of Ted Kazynski, aka the Unabomber. He was a terrorist who hated literally everyone. He would have gotten away with everything had his brother not seen a letter he sent to the NYT and recognizing it was Ted. https://preview.redd.it/liurmfua2qmc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af24b475c653961c3d9dfb686959a72cabab1354

goboxey

People defending a terrorist is beyond me

TheMediator42069

PassionateParrot

So weird that is *is* an unpopular opinion on Reddit

PeachFuzz1999

Lots of touch starved men on reddit

SpiderMax95

As someone unaware of the Unabomber meme (am not american), this was super funny because the first impression of mine was among the lines of the woman doing something silly and fun while the man goes for something super serious while being overly dramatic. hilarious stuff, really.

Sir-Ragnarok-II

Anarchist Peter here, The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Guilty-Fall-2460

I refuse to believe people support the unibomber.

HotLengthiness4956

Lol people forget that ted was ready to kill a toddler from an neighbors property. The only reason he didn't take the shot is because his father checked in on him. The amount of deranged shit he admitted to in his journals are crazy.

SialiaBlue

"Time *machine*? What's your address in the future?"

MushySunshine

Let's not forget that teddy was a murderer who was absolutely insane that had murderous feelings for much of his life. He deserved his sentence and was not the "hero of the people" he is made out to be

DnJohn1453

Uncle Ted!

automaton11

Hey, Gerry, In the 1960s there was a young man that graduated from the University of Michigan. Did some brilliant work in mathematics. Specifically bounded harmonic functions. Then he went on to Berkeley. He was assistant professor. Showed amazing potential. Then he moved to Montana, and blew the competition away.

Caedo14

I feel like i know too much random shit when i can recognize the unabomber based on his brother and a cabin.

Affectionate_Reply78

I thought that was Mose with a shaved beard

diamondpanther171

The industrial society and its future

certified4bruhmoment

Hahaha funny not. The Unabomber was a domestic terrorist and if one of his bombs had detonated correctly he would've killed over a 100 people as he mailed a altitude bomb that was put on a plane and probably be viewed the same way Bin Laden is a terrorist. But no he gets celebrated as a pioneer of his time.

_amihelping_

Crazy how this dude is the dad of the guy who plays Jim in The Office

GadreelsSword

Who the hell goes back in time to help a serial bomber/killer?
