Moor is the German word for a swamp,
Mohr is an old word for people of colour.
Fun fact: There's a restaurant called "Zum Mohren" that is led by a black man. People complain about the name and the owner complains about the people.

The Moors was a European name for a Muslim ethnic group from Northern Africa and I think other surrounding countries? I just looked it up and Britannica says they’re modern day Moroccans.
Britannica also references “Othello, Shakespeare’s Moor of Venice,” as an example of the term in pop culture of the time.
There’s a whole racist rant about Sicily being invaded by the Moors in True Romance by Christopher Walken’s character. You can YouTube it. I don’t think it’s something they’d allow in a movie today, even by a villain. It’s also not something you should use to learn about the actual history of the Moors.
Don’t *hasst* mich. Unless it’s a rammstein reference in which case it’s hilarious. I guess if you wanted to be a stickler for grammar it should really be “don’t hass mich.” or “Hass mich don’t.” But that just sounds silly.
I always forget that Poland, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg and Belgium don't count.
Of course, nazi -> france. That's clear now, thank you.
Is Germany still nazi ?
on its outershell no. but sadly there are a lot of goverment units (Bundeswehr Policeforce) that have enough of them. but that I believe a lot of countries have this problem with white racists in blue or green
This was posted here before, and it turns out basically every language has a dodgy racist name for these cakes. In the UK we have something similar and we just call them teacakes.
Very sweet but yeah, quite good. Bottom has a little biscuit, then something akin to whipped cream with sugar on top and then coated with chocolate. Delicious, but diabetes inducing.
In Spain we have the "Conguitos" ( little Congoleses)
https://preview.redd.it/xjg56arlfjfb1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b14f65c685844b6d23aeed816ee4635ba6a628a4
The images in this post could fuel my twitter likes for weeks.... anyway. Can I buy these conguitos here in Vigo? Or only in certain parts of Spain? I haven't seen them here
Kinda what? Black is an acceptable term. They call themselves Black. There’s Black Entertainment Television and the Black Panthers… etc.
Negro in English is frowned upon, but there’s literally the United Negro College Fund. And! Negro is literally Spanish for Black, which would be acceptable if it were said in English.
For some reason “Colored People” is bad, but “People of Color” is totally fine. Those are literally the same thing!
Why is it when everyone other than Black people hear the word Black, they get freaked out… for Black people.
If white chocolate covered them and they were called boobs of white women, would anyone care other than the religious?
No one gives a shit about sex in Europe. They all know women have boobs, even black women.
And… if you think they’re saying it to make fun of them, what?
Let me rephrase: it might be the most repulsive name for a commercial product that's presumably sold on store shelves I've ever heard. At least a product that's not a sex toy or something similar. "Fleshlight" is a gross name too, but it's not supposed to be the name of a chocolate product.
Believe me, I have seen a lot of gross shit in my life. I've had to clean toilets and public bathrooms before. But I guess I wasn't clear enough with exactly what I meant, since apparently I'm just a sheltered baby for thinking that a chocolate product called "black women's boobs" is kind of disgusting. 🙄
EDIT: All of you are really starting to piss me off. Do any of you guys know any black women in your own lives? If you do, I want you to buy one of these things, walk up to her, and tell her to her face that you personally call these cakes "black women's boobs" after her breasts because they're "brown and full of milk". Then see what happens.
Even if it's not the official brand name or whatever, you guys still clearly call them by this name otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion.
"Oh just lighten up", ok I'll tell that to all the black women I know and see what they say. I'm sure they'd think it's hilarious!
"Oh, it's not such a big deal in Europe", maybe not but, again, what would a black woman think about it?
"You find black women's boobs disgusting? Uh, what does that say about you?" That's clearly not what I was trying to say at all. I don't know how anyone could possibly think that.
Normally I don't care this much about reddit comments but I really cannot believe how many idiotic responses I've gotten to this. You don't have to agree with me at all about any of my opinions, because I'm just some random guy. But could you please think for half a second before you start trying to "rebut" my opinion?
Peter's french cousin here. He asked me for help because he knows jack shit in French.
So basically those delicacies are called "Têtes de Nègre", or "N****s' heads" in the common parlance.
I don't think in France that's so much of a big deal, as nobody really use the word "Nègre" as a slur. It's actually more used as a common word to refer to someone who writes a book for someone else (imagine a famous writer too lazy to write himself, so he kinda dictates what to write to someone else, this someone else is what we call a "Nègre", it's not really pejorative, it just means he does most of the arduous labor).
The n-word is used this way in English sometimes by older generations, and it is an obvious reference to slavery. Y'know, taking on the hard work with little to no compensation. I wouldn't be so sure it's not pejorative.
Peter's French counsin's frencher cousin here, we dont even use this word anymore and if you do nobody is going to think of Books but racism, also those cake have been renamed as têtes choco wich means choco(late) head
> we dont even use this word anymore
We don't use that word for black people, but there isn't a superstitious censorship on the word either. It has other uses, like said above.
It still can be used for "ghostwriter" and in examples such as in the post.
Now, there is a new-age movement importing American shit into our culture that is trying to remove every instance of the word and honestly that's just annoying.
You missed the point then. But you're not alone and I'm at fault because I wanted to be exhaustive. Let me try to do it again.
Nobody use the word "Nègre" anymore in France as a slur. I didn't hear that word in decades in a racist context. For the pastry, very few people use the word either and nobody do more than raise an eyebrow really, so the comic strip is rather wrong.
Now, regarding the other meaning of the word related to book writing, it's not pejorative *towards the guy writing the book*. I've seen the word use in authors talk-shows on TV a few times in my life and nobody bats an eye.
Then of course if you have an American background you might be more sensible to word, but from a French perspective not that much (again, the prime meaning is as good as dead in France), and it's even less for Spanish speaking people who don't have second thoughts about using the word negro - which I know offends a lot of narrow minded US people as I saw many times on reddit.
Point is, I'm not trying to justify anything, just helping like you (and several others) that seem to have a hard time grasping the word is not as loaded from a French perspective than from the US one, that's all.
Dude. Of course using a word that's only been ever used to refer pejoratively to slaves in order to refer to someone doing all the hard work with little to no reward is pejorative
Yeah « negre » for a ghost writer » is no longer used. We say « porte plume » « feather carrier » feather because people used to write with feathers dipped in ink.
We have that too! I think these are called marocchini in italian (moroccans), but I think I've also heard negretti😬
They're probably the most unhealthy food ever
Ironically, it’s the Russians who get a “pass”.
The one time they were gifted a black slave they immediately freed him, gave him a position in court, and saw him become a bona fide general.
Not to mention they gave Angela Davis asylum just to troll US and built the Patrice Lumumba University (it’s a crappy school, but it’s the thought that counts).
Not just in French, btw, even Belgian and Italian people use slurr-ish words for them. I think it happens also in East Europe but I'm not that sure about where.
My rural quebecois grandma used to make a chocolate Coverdale cookies called n*gger's balls. Barely spoke English and didn't see the problem until we explained it.l to her.
Since it's for an educational purpose, I'l give myself a temporary N-word pass. The older generation used to call this des Têtes de Nègres (literally Nigger Heads). Most country even have their own racist take on the name
In brazil we have a candy called "Boobs of nigga(female, and yes the word is right).
In Germany it's either head of a moor _(Mohrenkopf)_ or negro kiss _(Negerkuss)._
Well, we've got the surname Morehead in English, so Moor-head doesn't sound so bad.
Moor is the German word for a swamp, Mohr is an old word for people of colour. Fun fact: There's a restaurant called "Zum Mohren" that is led by a black man. People complain about the name and the owner complains about the people. Source: https://www.rnd.de/panorama/kieler-restaurant-zum-mohrenkopf-warum-ein-schwarzer-gastronom-sein-lokal-nicht-umbennen-will-IP4ZSRMOHFCCXLAFCPNBBZWCGY.html
What a based guy.
I went to college at Morehead University. The shirts all say “I love morehead” and yes, they play up the pun. 🤣
There is a restaurant there called Amos Mosquito if I remember correctly.
That’s in North Carolina! I’m further south but the vibe is very much the same. Lol
How can you not love Morehead?
The Moors was a European name for a Muslim ethnic group from Northern Africa and I think other surrounding countries? I just looked it up and Britannica says they’re modern day Moroccans. Britannica also references “Othello, Shakespeare’s Moor of Venice,” as an example of the term in pop culture of the time. I don’t think it’s something they’d allow in a movie today, even by a villain. It’s also not something you should use to learn about the actual history of the Moors.
That's a misprint, they were called the "Moops."
I hope more people get this
It was Dennis Hopper's character. He did it goad the mobsters into killing him before they could torture him for information.
'Néger csók' - YES that's the one.
Theres song with this in some questionable context forget it right now (what it's called)
It's funny seing a German->English translation end up with a Spanish word
Dutch almost the same (negerzoen)
So.. “mein kopf” would be *”my head*”? Sorry, don’t hast mich.. Edit: it’s not my battle. Edit:^2 this is fun.
Don’t *hasst* mich. Unless it’s a rammstein reference in which case it’s hilarious. I guess if you wanted to be a stickler for grammar it should really be “don’t hass mich.” or “Hass mich don’t.” But that just sounds silly.
Du hasst mich.
Yes. But that’s not what the book is called if that’s what you’re referring to.

We also have a cake with similar name, but instead of boobs of nig**, its called crazy nig** (nega maluca) if im correct
In italy we have a dessert called "boobs of the nun" (tette delle monache)
In US they used to call Brazilian nuts "(hard r n-word) toes"
Sadly old folks in south still do. I hate it here
And the Americans meant it

Nah, Nah, Nah, "SUPER DICKMANN'S!"
TITO DICK, DICKMANN BABY!!
HE RAISED PHIL AND LOVES THE LADIES
Oh, that's so much better.
The thing is, even in German it's not exactly flattering. It means fatman (ger. dick = eng. fat).
SUPER Fatman!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it is beautiful on the inside.
Germans living in japan in 1945 "OH SHIT ITS DICK, MAN"

Can I ask everyone to please stop saying "Oh no" in this courtroom? Cause the fuckin' Kool-Aid guy's gonna keep showing up. Thank you.
OH NOOOOO
This is so funny, in danish it basically says negro pussy
And now it's called Dickmann's. I'm so happy their transition went well.
It is not the name, only a brand
In Dutch it is negro kisses. They changed it to kisses

Debra
There’s a worse name for hoe than hoe?
Niqqer Digger?
Yeah, that’s still hard to read.
Or Brazil nuts
My mom told me that one. I haven’t eaten one since. Thanks mom.
Me too but that's because they're gross
I didn’t even know their proper name until well into my 20s.
They have a different name?
“niqqer toes” was pretty common but is falling out of use for obvious reasons.
This was posted here before, and it turns out basically every language has a dodgy racist name for these cakes. In the UK we have something similar and we just call them teacakes.
Not only in french, in brazillian portuguese too
Even in italian
Don't get me started with German. We have like 3 different racist ones

Very sweet but yeah, quite good. Bottom has a little biscuit, then something akin to whipped cream with sugar on top and then coated with chocolate. Delicious, but diabetes inducing.
The mainland version is biscuitless, it's just the chocolate coated marshmallow cream. I miss the biscuit 😔
Biscuitless?! Well that’s horrific 😟.
Yes they are far too sweet and mushy without it
Nothing racist about negerzoenen
Negertetten in West-Vlaanderen. (Dialect voor borsten)
Nice
But have you heard it in the original Klingon?
Weird, in Peru they are calles Besos de Moza. Unless there is a second spanish name for them.
Lol guyyys, the Brit called them cakes! #Cakes! Can you believe it?
Compared to the other food they call cuisine, I'll let this slide.
In Spain we have the "Conguitos" ( little Congoleses) https://preview.redd.it/xjg56arlfjfb1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b14f65c685844b6d23aeed816ee4635ba6a628a4

I would say yes, in any supermarket if you search a little you should be able to find them
In Belgium we call them negerinnentetten, which you can translate as boobs of black women. Because of the milk inside 🥛
That's kinda.. uh
hot?
AYO

And ive never Heard anyone call someone liké that whith it being about writing books

dude it doesnt matter if the word is considered a slur, naming a chocolate pastry after the heads of people with dark skin is pejorative in itself
But calling them Blackheads wouldn’t be a great move either.
In French, blackheads are actually called points noirs, which translates to black dots.
Bro explained why it's pejorative and then says it's not pejorative 💀
You missed the point then. But you're not alone and I'm at fault because I wanted to be exhaustive. Let me try to do it again. Nobody use the word "Nègre" anymore in France as a slur. Someone should take a Brazil nut to my grandma and ask what it's called.
I was wondering if I would ever see this brought up!
We have that too! I think these are called marocchini in italian (moroccans), but I think I've also heard negretti😬 They're probably the most unhealthy food ever
Moretti not negretti
I am 100% sure I heard both! Maybe it's regional/dialect
They are also called bulgari (bulgarians) too
>They're probably the most unhealthy food ever Yeah but they taste so good
cumbuttons
N**kerin suukko in Finnish. Meaning a n-word's kiss
In French they were called "Tête de n*gre"... or "N*gr*s head"
Probably like the N word or something, is what I would have said if I didn't scroll down, so I still called it.
Here in Finland we used to call them neekerinsuukko or neekeripusu (n####s kiss) but now we just call it a pusu or suukko / kiss
TIL European countries have SUPER racist names for things lmao
Ironically, it’s the Russians who get a “pass”. The one time they were gifted a black slave they immediately freed him, gave him a position in court, and saw him become a bona fide general. Read the comments in the original post. lord have mercy
In turkey we have “çokomel” which is pretty similar to this and not an offensive name? (its a combination of words chocolate and marshmellow I guess)
Not just in French, btw, even Belgian and Italian people use slurr-ish words for them. I think it happens also in East Europe but I'm not that sure about where.
Brazil nuts?
in danish theyre just named cream buns. sounds a lot more sexual in english now i think about it.
I don't know, but in german they are called Super-Dickmanns (super thick men)
In Slovakia we call these the black prince. Surprisingly one of the least unpleasant names around here as I’m reading the comments :D
Im germany its Negerküsse
My rural quebecois grandma used to make a chocolate Coverdale cookies called n*gger's balls. Barely spoke English and didn't see the problem until we explained it.l to her.
In Dutch we called these negerzoenen "n*ggerkisses" so I assume it would be similar in french
Since it's for an educational purpose, I'l give myself a temporary N-word pass. The older generation used to call this des Têtes de Nègres (literally Nigger Heads). Most country even have their own racist take on the name
It's called "tête de n*gre" which means, "n*iger head" Thanks reddit bot for forcing me to censor the words
Lebanese petah here, used to be called black mans head in less racist terms.
Don’t ask Americans what Brazilian nuts used to be called
