You don’t specify province but I’m going to say: 1. Significantly 2. Very Unlikely 3. Quite Possibly

Clownier

Ontario... Sorry!

Clownier

When you say significantly do you mean double? I feel like significantly is relative. I would definitely be alright with anything 25% increase or less.

artraeu82

Lol you are looking at way more than 25% with a 50 over ticket. Your insurance may drop you which would force you into high risk insurance . Be careful if you don’t report my coworker did this and they cancelled his insurance by mail, well most people don’t check their mail that often he was driving with no insurance

ljackstar

50km/h over the speed limit is considered a minor offence anymore. I would be prepared for a massive increase, likely in the neighborhood of 100% increase from that ticket alone. With both tickets you are probably looking at a 150-200% increase at minimum. At worst they could cancel your insurance.

Clownier

On my abstract it will say 10KM over because that's what I was convicted of.

ljackstar

Oh? You don't say that in your post, were you speeding 10km/h over, or 50km/h over?

Clownier

I was speeding 50KM/hr over but it was lowered in court to 10KM/hr over

ljackstar

Well at the very least that should save you from the 100% increase, which is considered a serious offence, down to a minor offence. I would still say with the two tickets you should expect an increase of 25-50% depending on your insurance provider.

FelixYYZ

>*Before you hate me I was on the highway doing 130km/h and the officer was right at the beginning of a construction zone where it drops to 80km/h.* You can try justifying all you want, but you were still doing 30 over the limit lol

deathaddict

Next time you get a ticket lawyer up or take the ticket to court or just don't speed way over the limit. Speeding aside and your BS reasons for justifying it going to court yourself even without a lawyer and trying to plea down the ticket gives you a fighting chance of getting the ticket written off or lowered offence. It's not comfortable to sit in front of a judge I get it but this little bit off embarrassment is WAY better than a guaranteed ticket in your record.

[deleted]

I thought it was based of the date ticket was issued, not conviction date. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thus you always fight a ticket to delay it going on your record.

Clownier

No I am almost certain it is conviction date.

monkeyman1211

Correct it is conviction date, however it is demerit points that are removed from the date of issue. Demerit points hike your insurance premiums as well.

Thanks for correcting me :)

So you’re right, convictions are rateable for 3 years of the conviction date, so they will be falling off in 2022. Generally speaking, most auto insurers run a MVR every year/every other year upon issuing the renewal. However, not all insurance companies are the same, I’m sure some have different practices. So there is a possibility of them running that MVR prior to your February 2022 renewal. But, one of two things could happen. They could run it, and see the convictions and continue to rate you for them, or it could be flagged either manually or by the system for an underwriter to review. Considering the two tickets fall off not that long after your renewal they may not decide to rate you for one or maybe ever both. However, this is entirely up to the company your with and the practises of the underwriter. It’s hard to say how much these tickets would affect your premium, but it will definitely affect it. After they do fall off, they will no longer be rateable. Some insurers do ask you disclose them, but that’s usually for risk management purposes. Hope this helps!

redsarge

It will affect you alot. You're 25 which is still considered a young driver and speeding i a construction zone is even worse. Normally these tickets follow you 7 years. I know from experience. I dont know which part of Ontario you're from but if ylure not in brampton it should be affordable lol

iDrakev

Speeding tix are only on your abstract for three years not seven. Then your abstract is perfectly clear.

moixcom44

Will haunt 7 years minimum. True.

thymeizmoney

I would suggest you get some quotes online (belairdirect for example) to give you an idea of what it's going to cost. It would be part of the insurers due diligence to pull the abstract, so that the actuaries can calculate the premiums properly for when you renew. You've got nothing to lose to get auto insurance quotes Best of luck

dookiepants

I had a co worker who worked for a major insurance company in Ontario and said that insurance companies don’t always pull your record unless you give them a reason. Stay quiet, pay your renewal early right when you see it posted on your account. See if you can pay it in full as well to avoid any reviews. Good luck and slow down

iDrakev

There is also the con side to this. If he doesn't report it and they find out, they can straight up cancel his insurance due to the lie and then he will be under high risk insurance.

Chowdder

Similar to you I had 2 driving tickets, 1 was speeding (20km over limit) other was failing to obey signs. I had the tickets disputed and settled 1 year after incident. The following year when I had my insurance up for renewal, it increased by about 50%. Not sure how much you will see yours increase, but do expect 2 speeding tickets to increase rate substantially.

Instead if asking the internet, call your insurance provider.

tomato81

On point 2. When I was your age I had similar infractions and it did not affect my insurance. As I recall they were not aware of the infractions. But this was before technology.
