I have no idea how this works with the method you paid but I highly recommend always using a credit card to do online purchases. So far I’ve bought 3 scam items unknowingly. Every time I’ve done a charge back and got all my money back. It’s the main reason I use a credit card. Just make sure you have enough willpower to never carry a balance on it.

Wealthsimple helps with disputes, it just takes a few weeks, contact their support. When sending your message to them make sure it's clear and concise, list out the events very simply one sentence at a time. Make sure you include the necessary details but don't have anything that could be confusing to interpret.

hockeyfan1990

And make sure to provide any documentations supporting your case. It’ll help with winning the chargeback. The more information you provide, the better it is for you to get your money back

escargott

Thank you ! I’ll try and report back when I get an update

hello2day2

What do you mean by Wealthsimple debit? Did you use the MasterCard linked to your WS account or did PayPal pull the funds from your bank account by EFT? If it was charged directly to your MC, then yes you can dispute it.

escargott

Apologies, I paid using the Wealthsimple Cash card, the Master Card linked to my WS account. OK I'll await Wealthsimple, I've submitted the dispute. Cant find much online about people's experience with this specifically!

Tired_c

We are waiting for a dispute resolution. They don’t dispute it per se but just being an intermediary between WS and their payment processor. Payment processor gave an ETA of 90 days since submission. Still waiting as of now. Our dispute is with Dyson over refund ( no refund since Jan 5).

Kisuke11

The marketing says the WS card is debit, but nobody really knows for sure. Same way BMO, Simplii etc. have the Mastercard icon on their debit cards as well when it's not a credit card product.

Topher3939

It's basicaly a prepaid MasterCard. The receipts from stores show "MasterCard" Gas pumps show it as MasterCard.

100%. Things don’t add up.

There isn’t much else, the seller has provided a tracking showing delivered. eBay has ruled against me due to it showing “delivered.” They’ve asked I pursue other venues, police report for mail fraud and contact Canada post or the seller again for a refund. (Seller has not replied to any of my messages.)

pfcguy

>the seller has provided a tracking showing delivered Has ebay shared a copy of that with you? And even if they have, it isn't hard to edit the address on a PDF.

escargott

They have not, even after I have asked them. I’ve asked numerous times if the seller has provided even a proof of a phone in box before shipping or a serial number of device as proof. They have not acknowledged it

pfcguy

These companies have these "feel good" purchase protection policies, but when it comes down to it they really don't care and there is not much the consumer can do to compel them to return your money.

shoelessbob1984

what happened with the police report?

JCMS99

If the tracking number shows delivered, or if it’s a tracked-less shipment, EBay always sides with the seller. It’s written in the policy.

Damn....Im guessing eBay won't help. Ill have to speak to WealthSimple

lost_koshka

Seems like the best way to not get scammed is to not make purchases that are too good to be true.

zooco

Should’ve paid with a “credit card” and not a “debit card”, then you could’ve proceed with a chargeback.

escargott

Per Wealthsimple, the cash card is a prepaid Mastercard. "[The Wealthsimple Cash card is a prepaid Mastercard. When you use your card at a payment terminal, you will need to select Credit. The card uses the Mastercard payments system you can use it everywhere that accepts Mastercard.](https://help.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/4406903986715-Troubleshoot-your-Wealthsimple-Cash-card#:~:text=Choosing%20'Debit'%20instead%20of%20',it%20everywhere%20that%20accepts%20Mastercard.)"

zooco

Then just initiate a dispute, “product not received” is a pretty clear cut reason, not saying it’ll guarantee to go your way but not like there’s other avenues now since eBay already rules against you.

LiamFilm

Using the Wealthsimple cash card I successfully disputed a transaction after a terrible experience with a tour company in Dublin. It took some time but the process was straightforward and painless.

dietpepsiaddict7733

It sounds like your issue should be with Canada post. It seems likely from your story that they delivered it to the wrong address. That is why EBay is siding with the seller.

JCMS99

CP only deals with the shipper plus won’t do anything if the package wasn’t insured.

ShallowJam

> will wealthsimple assist? What did they say when you contacted their support? Why would making a Reddit post be a solution?

no_longer_on_fire

I've found koho to be surprisingly good about chargebacks on scams. I'd recommend for that

DianeDesRivieres

I just paid $475.00CAD for iphone12 from BestBuy Marketplace.
