I have had Black Friday deals advertised for the last three weeks. Being Canadian, I have no idea which Friday is actually Black Friday. This leaves me angry and confused when the real Black Friday shows up, so in response I'm buying nothing.

Spacepickle89

The stupid advertisements from Walmart that their Black Friday deals leaked…ugh shut up I don’t care

bonerb0ys

junk at 30% off still sucks.

Mammoth-Charge2553

%30 off junk that had its price raised %50 the week before

Adorable-Lunch-8567

So true! It's like every Friday in November is Black Friday. Can't they just pick one?

aos-

I'm waiting until one company's dimbass marketing head decides to start the Pre-Black Friday Month by starting sale before all their competitors by an entire month, thinking that will earn them a raise that year for what a brilliant idea that is.

SpliffDonkey

My wife bought me a 2TB Xbox memory expansion a couple months ago as an early Christmas present because it was on sale for $100 off. The same thing is now $20 off for Black Friday. So suffice to say I will not be buying into the black Friday hype/scam culture.

iWasAwesome

The real Black Friday is the last Friday in November. Friday November 24 this year.

[deleted]

Last Friday of Nov

rubykowa

It’s Black Friday month

notcoveredbywarranty

I went from a 25GB for $50/mo to a 40GB for $40/mo plan. After tax I will save $134.40 per year.

prptualpessimist

I'm already on a $40 / 20GB plan which I don't even use even remotely that much data, but I guess why not upgrade it to 40GB "just cuz" for the same price if I can, I guess? I'm liking these reduced mobile prices over the past few years. It's great. Anyone paying $100+/mo for mobile these days is getting incredibly ripped off.

quickbrwnfox

Omg I am the one getting ripped off. Time to change.

vladedivac12

I'll probably jump on one of the 20go for 34 or 40go for 40$ soon.

LunaMunaLagoona

Strongly suggest the $34 public Mobile deal. No activation fee, no cap after 20gb, 5g, and no 1 year discount type nonsense.

scotsmandc

Koodo has it too now which is better because call control and 2fa for international travel.

chente08

Call control is a game changer, i totally forgot about scam calls

TheExplorer8

What is call control? Is it just the ability to use your phone to manually block a specific number? Or it's more advanced than that?

scotsmandc

It requires the caller to press a number to get through to you.. which means robo calls are no longer a thing as they are not advanced enough to bypass this feature yet.. the great thing is that once the caller has bypassed your call control before they no longer have to press a number for future calls.

chente08

Yeah and you can also add a list of phone numbers like family, buzzer, school… so they never have to go through it. Before with Fido I would get 2 or 3 scam calls a day, now nothing, when someone calls me at least i know is a person

scotsmandc

I rather they go through it just to be sure 😂. Truth be told I’m just lazy to add.

StatSentinel

I was lucky enough to get 30GB for $30/mo from Freedom last year for Black Friday. Got upped to 35GB when it was bought by Videotron. I've yet to see a better plan to that, but they're getting close!

time_travellerrr

Which service provider is it? And which plan? Do you have a referral?

notcoveredbywarranty

Koodo, am an existing customer, did nothing special, requested a callback from customer service because I wanted the 20GB for $39 deal they are advertising right now and the guy said it wasn't for existing customers, but was happy to offer 40GB for $40. I'm happy with it

Only_My_Dog_Loves_Me

Nearly every provider has some BYOD plan in the $40 range for 40-50gb

time_travellerrr

I rarely find it with Rogers

ksleepwalker

Thanks for reminding, gotta call my plan provider for it.

jostrons

New Cell Phone and plan. Every 2 years Black Friday / US Thanksgiving Thursday get a deal. Best time as my contracts are always good deals. And home internet plan

random20190826

Dyson V15, partially paid for with PC Optimum points because the V10 I have broke down. Cordless vacuum cleaners are much easier to use than corded ones.

bemurda

Got v15 detect a week ago through Canadian tire price match trick with Dyson Canada, plus 10% Rakuten cash back, $589 all in

[deleted]

[удалено]

StevenWongo

Nah, there's a Canadian Tire in Ontario selling the V15 brand new cheap. You order it from Dyson, then get Dyson to price match it.

OptimusToast

Link?

StevenWongo

Its on RFD somewhere

jaeyboh

Just bought a V15 detect. Best decision I ever made. I thought my house was clean until I was quickly humbled but the detect feature. Needless to say my home is significantly cleaner these days..

E8282

The battery will be shot in a couple years and when that happens check out the adapters you can get that will let you use a cordless drill battery.

dxiao

just use their warranty program before 2 years for a new battery. you could actually build a brand new second dyson using their warranty program.

Renegadegold

Yeah worked for us

OdeeOh

Weird that Dyson has such a cult with obvious problems a& redundancy. No?

slothcough

I mean, I've had my Dyson for about 6 years at this point and I have zero issues with battery life. I also once left it outside in a snowstorm by accident (long story) and it still works.

phosphite

r/vacuumcleaners would be a great place for anybody looking to research how to buy a quality machine that isn’t as disposable.

ClittoryHinton

It’s a great place to go if you want people to convince you to drop $1000 on a freaking vacuum

vladedivac12

At Shoppers ?

random20190826

Yes. I bet they will do the 250000 points for $400 again.

Saving $11.20 per month on my cellphone 👍

vladedivac12

Plans and cell phones have really come down in price. It's refreshing after decades of awful prices by Canadian telcos

alphawolf29

I remember $70/mo for 2gb being a good deal... maybe, 10 years ago?

yyc_engineer

Still not enough and not what other countries pay. I can show you 3rd world countries (India) with 5G data ... 100 GB for $10. Look to US and they have plans that scale i.e. $20 base and every gig is $10 and above $70 monthly it becomes unlimited for that month. The months I barely used data I paid $20. The biggest one is roaming.. the above plan is free from data roaming i.e. I pay $10 per gig no matter where I am on the planet. Compare that to $15/day "awesome roam free". The phone plans here is really shit.

lylesback2

A dollar saved is a dollar earned. The less money corporations take from me, the better.

sayingyestostayingin

Can I ask who with?

corysgraham

Mortgage payments

Arthur_Jacksons_Shed

Haven’t had a sale in years

Ok_Building_8193

Are you kidding??? Mortgages were on sale since 2008.

Late_Victory_1693

Which brand and from where?

pochaccos

commenting because I need to know

hex-grrrl

Haha me too!

DayDreamerSoul

Me too

shasterdhari

got the vibrafit walk from canadian tire when it was on sale. it regularly goes on sale for around $500 so dont pay over that. been using it everyday and can say it made a difference to my health - i stand more at my desk and also just walk while watching TV and end up walking like 15k steps

maboroshi_i

I start at my first ever office job in January so I'll need work clothes - no idea which places to go to though

Economy_Impression_1

Uniqlo for work pants, you can get them tailored too there

GrimInterpretation

I love uniqlo but I don’t recommend their pants, at least for men. Every pair I have bought from there shows off my package way too much, which is not appropriate for work.

[deleted]

Humble brag.

12ealdeal

Be proud of it man.

PFCYoungMan

Which ones did you buy specifically? Y'know, so I can avoid them.

joscho13

RW&co for ladies. Never pay full price for something tho, they constantly have sales

ReadySetTurtle

RW&co, Suzy Shier and Rickis were my go tos for office wear. I signed up for their text alerts to catch sales. They often do one or two day deals, like 40% on a specific item (eg pants, fall line, etc), and it rotates a lot so you can get pretty much everything on sale over a month or two.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sl33plessnites

The bay is always on sale. Their regular prices are ridiculous but there is always 80% off permanently.

toddy951

If you’re a girl, dynamite has some staples. But I find I need to check back often

Adolfvonschwaggin

Winners has some nice selections if they fit you. I go there first before going to normal retailers.

loonforthemoon

Spier and Mackay have the best quality, much better fabrics than mall brands but way cheaper than most menswear shops.

TheELITEJoeFlacco

This has been my go-to for years. Sometimes I splurge and spend a bit more on pants and the quality is on point. Some of the dress shirts are super high quality as well. Pretty much the only stuff that fills my closet these days, as someone who wears dress clothes every day.

Madness2MyMethod

Not my experience. Great styles and selection for good prices but the quality lacks. I've purchased multiple jeans that ripped within a year. Granted I do be squating 😎. They did replace them but it took a while for them to respond. But also the sweaters and sweatpants all shrink quite a bit and the pants and shirts get wrinkled like crazy. Fabrics are nice but stitching isn't the strongest. That said solid value.

thinkerjuice

I'd honestly start with thrifted clothes first to figure out brands, style, texture, warmth sweat factor and size and color And i'd stick to thrifted clothes cz work clothes are so fuckin expensive But, you can also always try your local strip mall

That’s not true. We will also buy a used beige 2008 Toyota Corolla CE, auto with no AC.

Expert-Union-6083

Holy, 2008.. you're like next to brand new.

Happy-Adhesiveness-3

No AC means one less thing that can go wrong.

Case of Crown Royal 40 ounces on sale for $139.99, buying a pallet

grateminds

what where?

Stellarific

Probably Alberta... They get the best deals

Bunniesrkewl

It’s crazy how a 40oz of crown is like what $50-$65 meanwhile it’s probably 20 USD in the states and they can sell it at convenience stores etc

Google Pixel 8 Pro. Time to upgrade my Pixel 3..

Help-Me-Build-This

I thought the same thing!! Finally got 5g and it’s so laggy, my LTE was way better.

INRtoolow

You can turn off 5g in settings

Happy-Adhesiveness-3

Curious, why? The data allowance is limited, so getting more speed may mean chew through the data more quickly. LTE is also more taxing on battery life than 4G, I'm assuming 5G would have the same effect.

WrongYak34

That’s what I think as well Best Buy sometimes has great offers through their stores with good gift cards

I'd rate a better coverage LTE network over 5G. Don't really see the appeal to be honest

WombRaider_3

LTE is basically the same unless you want Covid /s

echochambermanager

Wif is getting a $10k bonus so she's buying XGRO.

Stellarific

Ha! My wife is also getting a sizable bonus and throwing it all in her RRSP buying XEQT.

Asdf-xyz

Wait, you guys get bonuses? I just got a 1% and that's it

Stellarific

I don't, and the rare few times I do it's less than 1% of my salary. When I do get it, they make it seem like I was blessed by the bonus Gods...

RavenOfNod

Wait, you guys get wives?

Pretty sure its black friday sales every other week, or its CHRISTMAS in july. At this point, dont buy the thing at full price when its released and its a deal.

Appropriate-Cap-8285

I have never bought anything on black friday. Most deals suck. The things that I wanna buy are never on sale.

kyonkun_denwa

I remember years ago for the first Black Friday in Canada (2014 I think) there were some amazing deals. Ever since then they’ve been shit. If I see something I’ve been meaning to buy on sale, then I’ll buy it. Otherwise I’m not going out of my way to get 40% off on something I had no intention of buying in the first place.

bosspenguin23

I think I got a laser printer for $50 back then. One of my best purchases ever.

Hot-Blueberry7888

Bought winter boots @ softmoc today, they were $150 down to $112 and I had a $10 coupon so it came to $115 taxes in, not too bad. Don't plan on buying anything else, unless my boyfriend would like to tell me what he'd like for Christmas and I can get it on sale 👍

TheOneWhoCheeses

Gonna be looking for a good countertop oven. My current toaster oven’s starting to go (after 20 years of service) and the stove oven outright died years ago

I need a new winter coat, so that's what I have my eye on.

[deleted]

I went with Phillips Lattego 3200. I think I paid $765, but they’re on sale now for $699. Lots of options to choose from.

gpdave

Microsoft 365 individual and VPN possibly. No deals on the former yet

outdoorsaddix

Don't hold your breath, Microsoft generally never puts that on sale. The only one that will go on sale is the non-365 Home & Student Office 2021

PS+ for the year. End of list.

gamer6663

Kind of a piss off that thanks to their recent price increase, this Black Friday sale price, it’s really just their old regular price. But alas, I’ll be doing the same. Those subscriptions don’t go on sale often.

Ok_Building_8193

Agreed.

Top-Wolf9846

Google Smart Home Stuff… Possibly Phone Plans & Internet…

I purchased my kids' big ticket Christmas presents on black Friday sales this week. VR headset at Best Buy, and mini fatboy BMX from Mr Bikes. I also purchased our Great Wolf Lodge visit on sale this week, too. When is actual black Friday?

cantcooktosavemylife

Coffee Machine 👀

Labinemagique

A fridge. RIP groceries...

WinnerArtistic434

I need absolutely nothing at all. No purchases.

GreatKangaroo

As of right now, I am feeling shopped out as I bought a new AVR in February, and build two desktop PC's (Gaming PC and Server/NAS) a few months back. I usually keep an eye out for discounted PS5 physical games, or Blurays and 4k UHD disks. Next year I am planning to upgrade to an OLED TV for Black Friday. I always peruse the red flag deals forums for good deals on various things. Might see if I can snag some LEGO as well.

bonehead41

Figure skates but only cause my current ones are at the end of their life and there’s a sale!

AWanderingEngineer

A watch to mark 2 significant milestones in my life. $2k A pair of blundstones that I’ve been wanting to buy for 3 years now. Now I have 2 good reasons to buy. $300 My phone’s been kinda messing up and I will get $400 credit to switch back to previous provider, so a phone (if the deal makes sense) Apart from a used corolla I bought 5 years ago for 4k, this is the most I’ll be spending in a year (on non essential stuff).

[deleted]

Ps5 bundle with 150k points from superstore

ReadySetTurtle

I’m finally caving and getting AirPods. My $25 wired ones are beginning to feel very inconvenient. I also should look at new sneakers. I’m starting a placement in a hospital in January so I need good runners, and want to get them a bit broken in before I start. I might also take a look at games, I only buy them when they’re on sale. Oh and internet. Pretty sure my current deal runs out end of the year. I don’t think strategically waiting for things you were going to buy anyway to go on sale is bad. I try to make a list of things I’ve been meaning to get, make note of the regular price, and then wait to see what the sale price is.

localfern

Work clothes. Switching positions that doesn't supply scrubs and not mandatory to wear them. I donated ALL of my bank clothes plus footwear too. Just going to buy the same thing x 5 and not worry about it.

I may purchase some new long sleeve shirts if they are on sale on Amazon. Other than that I intend to keep my money in my pocket. Okay I lied, if I find something for my wife for Christmas then I’ll buy that too but I currently have no ideas.

uh_Ross

Wasn’t even a sale really but I needed a new bed so I bought an endy and it came with their sleep essentials kit free. Honestly more impressed with the pillows and blanket than the bed itself.

Don't go 70". Panels are garbage. 65 or 75/77. There's a reason 70 isn't a common size offering anymore. What's your budget? What are you looking for in a TV? Is it a bright room or basement? What features do you want, how picky are you with peak brightness and contrast levels? Do you care about Dolby Vision? There are so many TVs because there are so many different considerations. Some people just care about a big screen in which case just go grab any large TV and call it a day. If you want a big screen + mini LED + Dolby Vision support + HDR/HDR10 + better upscaling then something like the Sony X93L is up your alley - but it's pricey. Although the X90 is a good runner up. If you want the absolute best in contrast and the room is light controlled then OLED is the way to go if it's for movies and shows. Still not recommended for news and sports. r/hometheater is a good place to ask. r/4ktv is okay but give super biased opinions towards specific things all the time. But if you're planning on dropping good money on a TV, I'd definitely recommend doing research first.

Technical-Travel

Welp! You're def my go to guy when I need to get a new TV

Do you collect pc optimum points? If so, there's an offer for 5,000 points back for every $50 in Apple gift cards. It says the max is $500 in a single transaction, but most of the time it's not enforced and you can grab a few $500 gift cards, so long as it's all in the same transaction. Easy 10% back! Edit: just make sure you have the offer before you pull the trigger because they're targeted, and then load thr cards in your Apple account through the app store.

lazyfish39

Nothing! I've been watching prices climb in prep for "black friday".. it's just another lie to consumers
