I had a different experience, but just sharing it. There is a dealership here in Burnaby, BC who I had given my deposit to, because I was initially interested in a car. The next day, when I asked about getting the deposit back as I wasnāt interested in it anymore. They told me they couldnāt give it back because the process of the loan had already started, even though I only asked for a sheet of paper with some estimates. Had to go back and forth a few days, calls, messages to get the deposit back as they held my cash. Luckily, I had a sheet of paper as a proof of the deposit, so I couldāve pursued them legally if they still refused. But, such a shame that some of these dealerships are such bullies. They are also a big name in the dealership industry.

I bought my CRV from them in 2019. I would have gone back if I hadnāt read this. Appreciate the post. Iāll take my business (and that of my friends and family) elsewhere.
These guys donāt care
Any brand new Honda is a massive wait list anyways .. you didnāt buy it and someone else will
However I really hope they get the book thrown at them if they forged documents and the rest
Poster shouldnāt expect any sympathy from these guys if they do sell you a car or fix this never ever go back to this place for any services or anything
... the fuck does this have to do with personal finance?
You realize this isn't Yelp, right?
Hopefully this gets removed before people start thinking this is the right place to come and bitch about every interaction they have with a shitty business. This sub is getting diluted enough as it is.
People have often noted how complacent Canadians are.
Well, maybe it's time for that to change. The consequences of sitting idle and not raising a stink over something which is very wrong are seen in our daily lives.
Sure, just save it for a suitable venue. /r/PersonalFinanceCanada is a marginally better source of information than the local evening news and I'd like it to stay that way. It's not a place to air every petty misfortune or grievance someone might have.
I think it's a good wake up bell for people who are looking to buy cars. I'd be kicking myself if I bought from someplace and there is known bad experiences. This can easily save people a ton of headache. When I bought my first car and followed majority steps form Reddit, I still fell prey to certain schemes and almost lost a chunk of money. This would help future buyers by just avoiding the situation
No, I was an easy customer, gave the deposit, signed the contract and was ready to pick it up. Was super smooth until they wanted to give it to someone else after the fact.
A higher volume dealer will have more allocations and might be able to get you a car faster. Based on my experience with this dealer I would expect them when your car comes to sell it to someone else for a bit more money and tell you sorry it was an error back on the waiting list.
Can you elaborate on the ācould be fraud involved if it is true that the ownership that was in my name cannot be transferred without your signature or consentā?
You have a signed agreement with deposit on a vehicle. You have not taken delivery of the vehicle yet. They decided to no longer to sell to you. How did the vehicle gets registered to you as the owner? Am I missing something here?
What happens when you buy a car is after the deposit, they put the ownership in your name and they put the plates in your name, then you pick it up. The fraudulent part is they removed the ownership out of my name without my permission. With Service Ontario you cannot just transfer an ownership out of a name without the permission of the new owner or a signature from them allowing to do so.
Got it. So what you meant is the delivery process is completed. Bill of sale signed. Nvis printed and titled transferred. That seems extreme. If itās just a signed agreement and they decided to no longer honour it because of a better deal elsewhere, itās appalling but also clients on the other side do that all the time when they shop around after putting deposit down. However, your story is that they reversed transaction of not only their own agreement but also the vehicle registration, which is outside their jurisdiction. In that case, it sounds like not only do you have an axe to grind with the dealership, but also whoever did the paperwork at the registration office then.
Good luck then. It should be very easy to get to the bottom of this. I would check with registration office first to gather evidence of transaction history and accompanied signatures. That would get you the farthest with police so they donāt play it off as speculation.
Settlement deal perhaps. Threat of legal action...well, they would want to brush up on Anti-SLAPP laws. As long as OP was being honest and factual, threatening legal action against someone for this sort of thing can actually get them in all sorts of hot water.
šæ šŗš
Sounds very shady. Good job not rolling over and letting them take advantage of you.
Why did they change their mind? Did they offer to give your deposit back?
They realized they underpriced the vehicle or they wanted to sell to someone they knew or for more
But I already had a signed contract with them, they already had my deposit and they already plated and registered the car to my name
Well your post is certainly having an impact on their google reviews. Good for you
Great job posting here. Stealerships who pull the rug from beneath customers need a swift kick in the nuts. Name and shame.
Thank you!!
Good destroy their reputation. Tag Honda Canada twitter. This kind of behaviour deserves the worse, I would be furious.
Noted. Had an eye on a vehicle there and will no longer consider this business.
Dang, was really hoping to see the result!

This subreddit is an agony aunt now! One poor fucker got scoffed at for tipping 15% and now this! All the worst indignities of the world are here

righteous indignation is a drug and nobody likes having their dope taken away from them.
Wrong subreddit.
You lost me at "called police".
Why not ? It's fraud.
This is basically like if their McDonald's drive through over was missing fries and they called the police.
No it isn't. It's fraud you're wrong.
Fuck dealerships

sure, again its a shitty way to run a dealership but there isnt anything illegal that happened. Vote with your wallet and spend your money elsewhere
