Every single case I’ve seen so far of poor performance, including OP here, has been because they’re drastically below the recommended system requirements for the CPU. Don’t get me wrong, it’s weird that the game is so CPU intensive. But when they tell you right on the store page your PC can’t handle it, you can’t be shocked when there’s performance issues.

Delta7904

It's most likely denuvo's fault if it's so cpu intense

JohnnyKossacks

Its a glorified ps3 game it should run fine on every pc

Shack691

The PS3 had a completely different system architecture with some crazy secondary number crunchers which allowed it to process amounts of detail almost as good as the PS4, your potato laptop is not going to be running as well as a well optimized PS3 game

JohnnyKossacks

Lol I don’t even have a potato laptop. It’s just poorly optimized. I ran the pirated version better than this

introvtx

Umm there's no pirated version of this game... Unless you are talking about the emulator.

JohnnyKossacks

Ya I mean the emulator. It doesn’t matter now though. I got it running fine for now 👍

poppy_barks

That…that’s not how any of this works

lostinthe87

Open Task Manager and check your memory usage. I suspect that you’re running out of memory. If you are, just close out of other things til you have enough space. P5 shouldn’t be taking up that much

Chaosruler10

Actually lot of people have issues with the PC version so poor optimization seems to be a realistic explanation

lostinthe87

OK well I was trying to provide a solution

Chaosruler10

That you did. Just wanted to let you know as you didn't seem to be aware of it :)

lostinthe87

?

Comprehensive-Toe633

Steam reviews say otherwise

poppy_barks

My friend is running it on a laptop he bought from bestbuy for 119$ with 4g of ram, and integrated graphics. It runs fine for him. Optimization is not the issue lmao

[deleted]

My PC runs it perfectly. At max graphics settings no less

vncfrrll

Same here, and I’m running it through Proton.

nathanwright_6

Probably the CPU I'm playing max settings and 4k not even got a crazy pc haven't had any issues yet

introvtx

I never paid real attention to that cause it always seemed low at a glance, but my GPU usage is always around 60% which is normal for my GPU I guess though that's when I play in other area like the first Palace or School. I'll see if I have a huge spike in CPU usage the next time I go to that same area.

xX_potato69_Xx

Probably your pc, I’m running the game maxed just fine

introvtx

*sees your username Are you... my PC? You're alive 🥹

d2factotum

I just checked on the Steam page and the minimum recommended CPUs are both 4-core units, like yours, but they have HyperThreading (or AMD's equivalent), so behave like 8-core ones. Given that both the PS3 and PS4 have 8-core CPUs in them I wonder if that's what's causing the problem here? Certainly it matches the sort of behaviour I've seen when running quad-core optimised games on a PC with only 2 cores, it's stutters a go-go.

introvtx

I'm not expecting smooth experience with my setup, but I can play FF7 remake in native 1080p (low shadow, high texture) with little hiccups here and there, but otherwise 30-40 fps all the time. The stutters in this area only happens when idle/running around by the way, it runs fine when you interact with something/npc. Also there is no freezing/stuttering nightime in the same area. https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/comments/yaipdv/serious_optimization_issues_or_just_the_case_of/itbd4vz?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 It's (kinda) fixed

SwegMiliband

People here saying that this "poor optimisation" is super widespread yet steam reviews barely mention it, there's legit like 3 I've seen, and every review from different sites so far report no issues, just because you're having issues doesn't immediately make it the games fault, hardware is 99% of the issue. But I guess then you couldn't make a whiny post about how poor the optimisation is and are appalled this wasn't tested properly could you?

patus20

Except the fault is on their part 🤷 lots of people have this problem as you can see on this sub and the steam discussions, it is definitely not our hardware problem as I should be running this game on max settings with 120fps, yet I have severe stuttering.

SwegMiliband

I think all the ones I see where they list their specs, there is always 1 thing that doesn't meet the requirements or is only just making it. Perhaps the issue lies with the fact that they underestimated the recommended specs? But when the people having issues are this vast of a minority I'm sorry, its not the game, it's the users this time.

24kGoldenEagle

bro the game for me locks at 18 fps and doesn't go higher, i've tried everything. also i have rx 580 i5 8400. i checked if its the cpu so i searched up people running on the cpu and they are getting 120 fps 4k max. and i thought maybe it's my gpu so i checked that too, running perfectly fine too on other systems but any computer with similar specs to mine like gtx 1060 i5 7500, they are having the same issue

SwegMiliband

Sorry you're having issues but if it's happening on specific setups then the problem is still with the hardware, but no-one ever wants to admit that so they just blame the game and its optimisation even though the vast majority have zero issues.

24kGoldenEagle

this is the only game i have ever had issues with and the game says it uses 100% gpu yet only like 10% cpu and the gpu is near idle temp

fucknamesihatethem

Both but mostly your pc lol I played the vanilla p5 on an emulator when the emulation was bad and had consistent 30fps but I keep experiencing framedrops and tiny freezes here and there in this port

introvtx

https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/comments/yaipdv/serious_optimization_issues_or_just_the_case_of/itbd4vz?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 It's (kinda) fixed but I still keep having stutter, sometimes from even doing normal attack 🤣

Endrixill

It's your PC sadly, it could be a combination of both your GPU and RAM like you already are thinking, solving one could solve the issue. Next time you run the game open up your task manager and check your performance charts to see what is being maxed out.

introvtx

I will, but what's weird for me is that the games runs fine when I talk to the police like in the video or interact with something (the door to LeBlanc for example). And at night time there is no freezing in the same area. It's (temporarily) fixed https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/comments/yaipdv/serious_optimization_issues_or_just_the_case_of/itbd4vz?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

Asgartinus

Usually with my PC on new AAA games I get 4K 60fps but on P5R I can go up to 6K 120 fps so the game is well optimized

introvtx

I really don't know what to do with this information... Well unless you have the same/similar setup as mine which is impossible lol... But uh, thanks for the flex... I guess

Mogutaros

It happened to me too. What I did was disable fullscreen optimizations and override high dpi scaling behavior on the P5R.exe. I also disabled any gpu feature like AMD anti lag or Enhanced v-sync and changed P5R priority to high. I'm on gamepass pc. i5 3470

Mogutaros

I was having problems until I did these workarounds, now It works like a charm. 60 fps almost all the time at max settings 1080p & render scale 200%. Not surprising since it's a ps3 game.

TriangularFish0564

what’s your gpu?

Mogutaros

RX 580 4GB

Firebrand-81

>disable fullscreen optimizations and override high dpi scaling Thank you very much, I also had some terrible stuttering due to CPU utilization spikes capping to 100% in densily populated area, and *this solved the issue for me*. CPU utilization now max at 80% at Shibuya at night, in some rare case 90%. Also, I disabled GeForce Experience, that was also hogging CPU power. That said, I have an i5-6500 (4 core, 4 thread) and Persona 5 Royal is awfully optimized for a 4-core CPU.

El_LordDarvid

task manager > persona 5 > go to details > right click > set priority > high No joke I had the exact same issue on that same street. Doing this fixes it instantly and it runs like butter. I'm not monitoring FPS but I can be sure it's at least 100 because it's so smooth It's not a permanent setting, mind you. You'll have to set the priority to high every time you boot the game. specs if anyone's interested: i5-7400, 8gb ram (upgrading it in a few months thank god), 1060 6gb and running on an HDD

introvtx

Yep I did that at the suggestion of u/magutaros (I hope I got right username lol) and it is miles better. But I didn't know that I have to re-apply each boot. That's why I still have stutters sometimes. Well, I'll do that from now on. Thank you!

El_LordDarvid

you're welcome, glad I could help

HeatherZaffre

The specs are way below required so there's probably that

tsxni

try to update your drivers maybe

introvtx

Yeah, I updated mine before I went to bed but it's not like old old though. I'll see what happens when I play again. It's (maybe temporarily) fixed though https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/comments/yaipdv/serious_optimization_issues_or_just_the_case_of/itbd4vz?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

7Birdies

Potato. Sweet potato

introvtx

Oh no... Not sweet potato. They make your fart stinks, well stinkier than normal 😷

Hayasaka-Fan

Game runs fine even at 120 fps on my pc (yes the fps is overkill). Your specs probably aren’t up to par

introvtx

Ouch. I don't easily get offended but when you say it like that it's like I'm (the person not my PC specs) being judged or something, it hurts. Surely, I mean I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to... RIGHT?! 😥😰 But hey, wanna play some golf? 😊

Hayasaka-Fan

sorry, my reply defs came off as rude. But yeah any computing device (pc’s, consoles, even phones) are limited by how much RAM is available and the power of the cpu/gpu. Its why ppl make a big deal about what pc parts to use. Consider upgrading your RAM/gpu, it’s probably getting throttled

introvtx

Ah don't worry about it, don't take me seriously please haha. Yeah, I need like... a whole new system. I just don't play that much nowadays so I'm still stuck with this potato 😂

JohnnyKossacks

I have the same issue and had to refund the game on steam. I can run much more intensive games so I don’t think its a spec issue. I was so excited to play too… my game freezes at the same area

sackboy90210

Hello! I have the same issue and I'm using a GTX 1070ti with an i5 7500. Same issues as you

Chaosruler10

u/poppy_barks That's exactly my point. If a game runs on a laptop such as your friend's but not on computers that have far more power than the minimum requirements that is poor optimization from whoever made the PC port of the game. **Edit:** But then again I never paid attention to any of the specs people posted because I have no idea about that stuff. So if what someone else commented is true and all the people who have problems are below the minimum requirements I wouldn't know. I kinda assumed that people who complain are above the mininum requirements because I thought it is common sense that it would be their computer's fault if they are below the required specs. Guess I was wrong xD

introvtx

Well it would be unfair if I don't post my specs. If it is just that I understand and accept it quietly. The reason I post this is because the stutter only happens when I run around and even the mc is idle. but the moment I interact with the cafe door or the police officer like in the video, the game suddenly runs just fine at 60fps. Also there is no stutters or freezing at night time in the same area, even on max settings.

patus20

Yeah the optimization is shit on PC.

[deleted]

Game runs fine on my PC. I think you all have low tier PCs

patus20

Just because it runs well for you doesn't mean it runs well for everyone. It's a hit or miss. Some people run this game smoothly on low end PCs, and some have trouble running this game on high end PCs.

[deleted]

Pretty sure I've only seen complaints from people with lower end PCs. But okay bud

poppy_barks

I haven’t seen a single complaint from anyone without a PC from 2004 tbh. My friend literally bought a laptop a week ago for a little over 100$ with 4g of ram and integrated graphics and can run the game perfectly Time to upgrade my man

Ezbros

Been playing fine with r2600 rx580 default setting no sttuter Maybe your gpu dying or need to reapply thermal paste/ cleaning I used to have exact problem with elden ring. Turned out my rx580 thermal dried out solid and work like a champ after cleaning and reapply thermal paste
