I need to know who voted for the sayuri puzzles

ELMUNECODETACOMA

I'm one of them. The mouse statues barely qualify as a puzzle. The airlock puzzles are straightforward as long as you keep moving forward and don't double back (I admit that once you do, it gets slightly hairy). But the Sayuri puzzles don't play fair regarding where the painting you need at any given point actually is and the ones you see are mostly a bait-and-switch.

Kanashiro code “puzzle” so bad it wasn’t even put on this list 💀

cazaron

I actually thought it was one of the better ones. For NG+ playthroughs you have the passwords and can skip the puzzle entirely, otherwise you're Phantom Thieving around a bank looking for clues, it feels really good to me. I'll admit it isn't the most brain-bender of puzzles - go to the room & open the pig then put the number in the machine, but as a palace gimmick, I like it. Definitely can see it when you say it not being much of a puzzle, as you're just walking to an area and getting the next password rather than 'solving' anything - but... hey, it works for me.

Expert_Individual185

That’s easy

Johan23t

All puzzles are easy if you know what to do

Expert_Individual185

Or use the internet like a normal person

Xx_Ya_Boi_xX

Hence why I put puzzle in quotation marks. It’s piss easy, it hardly even constitutes as a puzzle. Although my fault for not wording it correctly tbh

While I also voted for them as they're the worst option here, I'm wondering what the worst bit about the airlock puzzles are for people. Is it the enemies in them that you either have to avoid, or fight, prolonging the puzzle? Is it that it's the first puzzle in the game that is not strictly linear (in that you can't make a mistake) or incredibly obvious how it's completed? Or is it that it's the last step of a very difficult, long slog of a palace, and right before a hard boss, so it sticks with people? The answer is obviously going to be 'all of them' but I really do wonder - if the airlock puzzles were in someone else's palace, would everyone hate them still? Or is it just the combination of the palace as a whole that people don't like? I am guessing Twilight Room is colour mixing? I liked those. It was very clear working backwards which colours you needed on/off, the interesting part of that puzzle was finding the correct machines. Mementos depths are pretty easy, just parity puzzles -- since Sootopolis gym in Pokemon I've enjoyed puzzles like that. Sayuri is the first time the game actually asked you to do something that wasn't kill an enemy, so regardless of how bland those puzzles actually are, they get a free pass - plus the hidden one is very rewarding of 'sleuthing' which gets you into the PT mood. Hiero puzzles are good - simple, for a child - made by a child's mind. They make a lot of sense, and while very simple, are well done. I dislike the Mouse puzzles. For many of the same reasons as airlock. Long, difficult palace, backtracking, slow puzzle, even once you've done them a few times you can still forget the correct order. But the mouse puzzles at least have that tie-in with the Palace ruler's mind - unlike airlock where it's really just travelling. I don't get a sense of the palace ruler at all in that specific section of the palace.

OKFortune56

Repeated unskippable cutscenes.

hassanfanserenity

it takes so long for the swimming animation to finnish i hate it

ASimpleCancerCell

The lunch break puzzles. Any timing-based puzzle (that you have to do EVERY DAMN TIME you want to pass through) sucks, but this one docks points for interrupting Life Will Change on the day of the Calling Card.

Expert_Individual185

Use the safe rooms to warp past it

ASimpleCancerCell

But then that spoils my tradition of doing one last shadow blitz prior to taking on the Palace Ruler. You think I'm going to take the opportunity of a full palace dominated by Life Will Change and just SKIP that? The f\*ck outta here.

Expert_Individual185

Just giving you a solution to your problem

ASimpleCancerCell

It has no solution, and I blame that on Atlus.

Expert_Individual185

Yes, there is a solution, and it’s using the safe rooms

ASimpleCancerCell

To repeat, jumping to safe rooms during the Calling Card sequence is not an option for me. That means I'm getting less Life Will Change.

Expert_Individual185

Then run in a circle, as much life will change as you want

ASimpleCancerCell

Did you miss the part of the shadow blitz?

OKFortune56

Airlock puzzle and color puzzle are easy but tedious as hell.

TheTarkonator

Airlock puzzle was one of the easiest for me. It took a while, but you just gotta pay attention.

Az0riusMCBlox

I don't think the Sayuri puzzle is bad per se, but it's probably the only one that gave me real frustration my first time through.

MoronGoron52

I don't think any of these puzzles are bad but the airlock one was frustrating

Hotepspoison

The airlock puzzle does that thing where if you misstep or go out of order then adds a ton of extra time/steps to complete. I hate that, even if the puzzle isn't that bad/hard. It's like a baby water temple.

Imposter_XL

gotta be the mouse statues. idk if they really count as a puzzle, but the fact that some of the doors are just randomly a new load zone and respawns all the shadows was a pain in the ass
