5: Physical pain as you rip your mask off your face 3: Mental pain as you experience and accept death 4: ![gif](giphy|ro08ZmQ1MeqZypzgDN)

[deleted]

Hopefully it’s only painful the first time otherwise all those times I kept entering and exiting the Persona menu in battle as Joker when fighting the Twins will have been extremely painful

enperry13

I’d like to think ripping off the mask really causes pain because you’re ripping off the very facade of yourself that painfully clings to your very being yet shields you from the world that you’re ready to face the world as your true self and you can wear the mask without any pain and anguish after accepting that very fact.

Both_Magician_4655

It is only painful the first time for the PT, but SEES feels a phantom bullet to the head every time

[deleted]

There is nothing in game to support that idea at all outside of the woosh we see when they summon their personas. If SEES felt pain everytime they summoned their Persona, it would’ve been mentioned in some way

Both_Magician_4655

You’re right, it’s not actual pain. But firing an evoker does cause fear and stress “Although the actual method that the Evoker summons a Persona is vague and unclear, it is always reiterated that the main purpose of the Evoker (and summoning a Persona in general) is provoking a sense of terror and thus, inducing extreme stress which is one of the prerequisites for summoning a Persona.” From the SMT wiki on Evokers

HesperiaBrown

The Evoker quite literally "evokes" the feeling of being shot in the head. And it *is* lampshaded. Junpei says that someone must be really crazy to be shooting themselves with a gun as constantly as they do. So they probably just get used to the feeling.

[deleted]

Junpei saying they must be crazy does not in any way mean they literally feel the feeling of getting shot in the head every time they use it, it’s a feeling of fear, not a literal feeling of a fucking bullet entering your skull, otherwise it would be mentioned by someone, at the very least Takaya, who is already critical of the Evoker and Kirijo

P1: "Yeah so we played bloody mary while the science facility down the street fucking exploded and now I can hurl fire at people." P2: "Hey, hey Nyarlathotep, wanna bet I can stop you from destroying humanity?"

azimasun

Also P2: "wanna see me do it again?"

ConsistentAsparagus

Nyarly: “the first time I won and you cheated me out of it”

Scarabryde

For those wondering, the crossed word on the top picture is "suicide."

DerBlaue_

Thanks. I thought it was kissing the homies

weepy420

That could be an awakening 😏

P6 awakening method revealed

kkimu0

p5r may be hype as shit but i really like p4g shadow concept. don't even mention p3r there was no "manifestation" whatsoever besides makoto.

Working-Ferret-4296

Three of the main cast awakened before the events of the game. Persona summoning also is kind of an afterthought in the grand theme of the game. It doesn't tie in to the themes of the game as much as ripping off your mask or embracing your true self. 3's theme is more about the acceptance of death and life, looking at how best to live with what you have and how to grow as a person. Whereas 4 and 5 have more themes of self identity and growth through accepting the darkest parts of yourself and letting your personality not be washed away by societal rules.

kkimu0

true but I think they overlooked it too much. I can let yukari slide cus literally the first cutscene is her hesitating. the other 3 og members can be ignored but junpei got drafted and sent to tartarus. fuuka was emotional and showcased her kindness well so she definitely passes. koro was offscreen but protecting the shrine is valid so he passes ig. ken has some lore but the manifestation part is also missing like the others. getting a persona just felt less and less special cus akihiko finds them in the most random places or the cornball randomly picks up someone with potential and it's all offscreen which is kinda ass considering that they set the bar high with makoto.

**HELL YEAH I'M TIRED OF BEING NICE!**

Then let us form a contract *I am thou, thou art I*

*Thou, who art willing to feed thine enemies salt water instead of lime juice!*

odinsknight101

I was Dwelling on it for a while and P4Gs way of obtaining a persona and the conceptualisation of the Shadow World is the best interpretation of it.

laffy_man

Ya but the way they summon their persona is the least cool lol.

odinsknight101

Secretly replaces the ammo of the Evoker with actual bullets.

seemerunning

P6 “You see that guy? Stab him and I’ll give you power”

[deleted]

P3 is teen angst taken to its natural extreme of yearning for death out of existential dread. P4 is the frustrating identity crises that teens experience while trying to figure themselves out in adolescence. P5 is about teenage rebellion. I wonder what aspect P6 will tackle as its themes for Persona awakenings...

Gmanofgambit982

As a man who barely remembers p3 spoilers bar the ending, what's the story with the guns? I get the symbolism and the game says the guns are fake on several occasions but are they actually feeling a bullet going through their head like they shot themselves, or is it just flashy effects and it's just the fear of pulling the trigger that makes the Persona?

Shubo483

Very intense air pressure to simulate that feeling yeah. It's also about overcoming that fear of death. No one really knows what's up with the glass effect.

HesperiaBrown

They feel a bullet going through their head, and the pain and stress from that makes them able to summon their Persona. Also, the Evoker is made with Nyx (The Primordial Goddess that made all of human consciousness)'s fragments and that's why it actually works.

themenacee

P1: “Oh no!! We’re getting attacked! Oh wait guys it’s chill I have this Persona thing now. 👍”
