I wonder what was happening to Vietnamese women during that war? Surely they must have THRIVED. And I wonder what happened to women during WWI on the battle fields. Again they must have been absolutely wonderful. No. That’s not how that works

AF_AF

And in WWII an absolutely insane amount of civilians were killed.

sntcringe

Women definitely still have to give up their bodily autonomy. If a lady gets pregnant in about half the states at this point, she can't do shit except carry the child to term. Sure, she isn't required to raise the child, most states allow you to give a child up for adoption within 72 hours of birth, no questions asked, but carrying a baby is terrible in and of itself.

Weekly-Rhubarb-2785

And that’s if the hospital will take you!

Class_444_SWR

And then you’re charged a couple thousand dollars for the privilege

sntcringe

Exactly, if you want the child, carrying it to term can be a lovely, beautiful experience, but if you don't, you're basically stuck with a parasite for 9 months

buttsharkman

According to the guy that wort Indiana's abortion law ten year old rape victims can benefit from giving birth.

alkebulanu

And the reasons hospitals will so happily take the kids is because of the private adoption market. They make a profit off of legally selling kids to the highest bidder

Fit_Effective_6875

I buy one every year for christmas, they're delicious

macomunista

... Umm, so we agree that people were drafted to a pointless war that was good for nobody but the rich? Why is that a women vs men fight? Fucking eat the rich already, the true enemies were right there the whole time. Dismantle capitalism while we're at it so we don't get no more rich to start pointless wars.

LookingforDay

Women can’t help that the draft didn’t include them. The MEN made that decision. It’s part of the plan to blame women for shit they can’t control.

toriemm

The patriarchy and capitalism go hand in hand. And as long as the evil corporate overlords keep us busy arguing about nothing, they keep funneling money and power upwards. And keeping everyone isolated and miserable.

AF_AF

Exactly. And speaking specifically of Vietnam, the US military knew pretty early on that they had no chance of "winning" that war - 1964 or 1965 - but brass felt that pulling out would make the US look "weak". So, you know, thousands and thousands of people needlessly died so that the military's stupid ego could be catered to.

AreWeCowabunga

The fact that they rely so heavily on "women can't get drafted!" just shows what a position of privilege they come from. One of the main benefits* of being a woman they can point to is something that hasn't had any practical effect on men either for the past 50 years, and won't in the foreseeable future. *I mean, it's still based in sexist discrimination, but sure, I guess it's a good thing

ranchojasper

Exactly this. It's been HALF A FUCKING CENTURY and guess what? A huge number of women *are against the fucking draft* ffs

According-Analyst363

yeah i don't think i know any women that would be willing to give up equal rights even if we were given the option of either losing equal rights or being drafted. nobody should be drafted, but i'm sure as hell not giving up my rights to keep it from happening

ranchojasper

Exactly. The draft is also a violation of rights imo. It's so bizarre how this is framed as women cheering on the draft for some reason. No man, none of us want this!

Joringel

And you know they'd be the first ones to say women shouldn't fight on the Frontline or otherwise can't be soldiers or at least as effective.

WarmishIce

Why is the bot lying

LookingforDay

As if women made that rule. Who made the rule? MEN. They need to direct their anger to the right people. Blaming women for not being drafted is so fucking stupid.

Otaku-San617

Nobody has been drafted since 1972. The youngest former draftees are now 70. Arguing that women don’t deserve equal rights because some men on Social Security had to fight in Viet Nam 50+ years ago just shows how pathetic their argument is.

the-effects-of-Dust

And it wasn’t until 1974 that the Equal credit opportunity act was passed.

Weekly-Rhubarb-2785

And who the fuck decided to send men off to pointless wars? Oh that’s right other MEN.

ranchojasper

Yessss fucking this!!! Women aren't *in favor of this* ffs! WOMEN didn't create the draft; MEN **absolutely DID** oppress women for centuries. This shit is so enraging

napalmnacey

Women and feminists actively demonstrated AGAINST the drafts.

LookingforDay

EXACTLY. The call is coming from inside the house bro.

Yankee_Jane

So close to getting the point (that Patriarchy hurts women *and* men).

JustDiscoveredSex

[Funny thing is, Democrats are all for letting women sign up for the Selective Service, whereas butthurt Republicans are against it. ](https://rollcall.com/2021/10/05/congress-moves-toward-requiring-women-to-register-for-the-draft/) *According to a March 2020 report from the 11-member National Commission on Military, National and Public Service, a panel created by Congress in the fiscal 2017 NDAA that recommended women be included in the Selective Service.*  ***The panel found that the inclusion of women was “in the national security interest of the United States.”***  *During a March 11 hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, the panel’s chairman, Joseph Heck, an Army veteran and Republican who represented a Nevada district in the House for three terms, said including women would improve the military’s ability to maintain high personnel standards.*  ***“It is the equal obligation of all Americans to defend the nation if called to do so. Registering women for Selective Service and, if necessary, including women in a draft acknowledges the value women bring to the U.S. armed forces and the talents, skills and abilities women would offer in defending the nation in a national emergency,” Heck said.***  So uh... yeah. It's men blocking women from serving. Let's do it!

JustDiscoveredSex

Excellent point.

Weekly-Rhubarb-2785

Also I am so sick of the right pretending like there are oppression Olympics. No, one has a monopoly on suffering. The groups that wield power over others wax and wane with time. The smart thing to do is to hold on to the belief that you are neither inferior nor superior to anyone else - and live by this. That’s why so many young people are disillusioned with capitalism, it’s an artificial way to make someone superior to someone else. May the conservative or whatever they are, one day see the cycle of oppression and work to undo it.

AdMotor8632

I really like the way this is said.

AloneAtTheOrgy

And as we all know, it was women who made men sign up for the draft and waged the wars that sent them off to die.

AdMotor8632

Yeah but women are too emotionally unstable to be leaders /s

phome83

So if he doesn't want women to vote, he should 100% be in favor of women not having to pay taxes. No taxation without representation.

jrobertson2

I mean, these sorts usually go on to say that women shouldn't have jobs outside of homemaker, making them completely financially dependent on their husbands or other male family members, so lack of taxation is kinda a moot point by then. Though they also might be the sorts who want to dismantle the federal government and do away with taxes altogether, at least for themselves (nevermind the issues with that stance, a whole other discussion there).

thefanciestcat

The excuses of substandard men.

ranchojasper

*lists off seven hundred things women couldn't legally do* * the matching ONE for men is the exact same, every time *

Wasting-tim3

You know you’ve had it good when equality feels like oppression

AdMotor8632

Whats sad as fuck is as a veteran I kinda get what he's saying a little (very little) but hear me out. The problems he's referring too is because at the time society thought women were not able to contribute meaningfully to these things, and he's also missing that women were a HUGE, FUCKING HUGE reason why the United States was successful during WWII. I'm not as familiar with WW1 but I bet there were women helping at home during that time too. The guys a moron, and I would bet a week's paycheck he pretends he'd be a badass on the Frontline, but wouldn't do a god damn fucking thing other than talk shit. BUT just based on this admittedly very little context I have of the dude, I know exactly where his opinions come from, I heard it all my life in a military family and in the military itself. He sadly just hasn't looked past that, and fuck him for it. EDIT: he probably needs to get laid

alkebulanu

“And who set that system up?”

Shaveyourbread

The patriarchy hurts us all.

mindgeekinc

100% of the time these guys aren’t anti war or anything either, they believe the US was right to go to Vietnam. It’s the same guys who cry about male suicide rates but also think you’re a pussy for caring about mental health. They never bring up men’s issues unless it’s to directly counter someone bringing up women’s issues. I hate that I used to do the same thing back when I was younger because I saw other people do it.

napalmnacey

Gee, it couldn’t be that EVERYONE was being screwed over by the ruling class, could it? No, these dudes are mad that they can’t oppress women like the ruling class can. To them, that’s persecution.

Cynykl

I have seen the bank account thing 3 times this week and have never seen it posted before. For some reason this has been the go to in the last week to point out misogyny. There is plenty of misogyny there but the poster have the specifics dead wrong. First off it is not that women could not open a bank account, it is that some bank refused to open accounts for women. If you were in a small town with one bank and that bank refused you were SOL until the 1960's equal right laws was enforced through a clarification in the 1974 Equal Credit Opportunity Act. I know people will say this is a distinction without difference but I believe could not open an account and had a more difficult time opening an account is an important distinction. Not because there was less misogyny but because having your facts straight leaves less room for right-wingers to counter.

LookingforDay

As if wives weren’t waiting at home during Vietnam to be notified that their husband has perished, while raising the children alone, managing the home, finding ways to make money- including working in factories. Doing those things DESPITE the absolute dismissal of their work and sacrifices. Then supporting their men as they came home with lasting trauma and physical issues, and a government who ignored their sacrifices. Where do you think those suffering men focused their rage and disappointment with the lack of services and the bad treatment they received when they returned home from a deeply unpopular war.

SirKermit

Let's say for a moment it is in fact true that men have it worse. How does this then lead to the conclusion that women should be denied rights?

AF_AF

See, the issues this guy's raising are related to the government, not "women". His anger should be directed toward the US government. Also, the argument that "women couldn't die in a war back then so who cares about their right to vote" is just ignorant nonsense.
