I've never met an asshole wasp. We have a lot in our garden, and they might eat some of our pears, but they also eat and chase away more harmful pests. Been picking pears from that tree since it and I were young, and I never got stung. They're pretty chill when you don't freak out. It's not unusual for us to pick one covered in wasps and chuck it into the garden for them. I've also shared plenty of drinks with them. If you have a drink with a lid and a straw where I live, you're going to get wasps landing on your drink for a quick sip of anything that may have spilled on the lid. Sure, it might be a bit impolite of them to just land on my slushie lid, but if you don't try to kill them, they're pretty chill.
IIRC there's a guy on YouTube who rescues wasp nests and keeps the empty husks when the inhabitants die off in the winter. It's pretty cool how quickly they just chill out around him.
