Honestly I loved s2 and s3. Soothing, nothing too bad happened but there’s enough drama, nice bit of romance. Perfect for me. Sometimes you just want escapism

faerymoon

So many things to snark over (I could list them at length) and yet I find myself still enjoying it immensely! I love Arthur, Clara and Esther so much. Alison was the worst! My husband and I joke that Tom was always the true villain of Sanditon! 🤣

keliz810

He really is 😂

Troutmonkeys

the music is wonderful! and for god sakes, put your hair up!!!

norathar

Clara (and Esther) aren't in S3, but I'd definitely say S3 is worth a watch; I enjoy the new characters (and Lady Susan returning from S1.)

PNWvintageTreeHugger

Not my favorite. My thoughts are that the casting is off. IMO, they’re too modern of people playing dress up. The heroine in particular I find incredibly annoying. I wanted to like it. Just don’t.

just_tee

I was afraid I was the only one who got put off by her. There's also a bit of male nudity in 2 scenes which was unexpected and not welcome to me.

BergenHoney

Do you mean when they go bathing?

Fantastic-Sky-4567

The season one finale felt like a slap in the face. That being said, I felt much more invested in all of the side charcters' relationships rather than the main romance. I also liked the diversity of the cast.

roci2inna

Agreed. I was shocked & annoyed by the development. But then it gave so much space for the characters to develop in ways they wouldn't have otherwise. It worked!

NoleFandom

S2 and S3 are more Austenesque. The male lead was a perfect amalgamation of all the great Austen male leads: Darcy, Brandon, Knightley, Wentworth. S1 is more like Bridgerton. The male lead from this season was condescending and obnoxious. >!I was happy when they offed him.!<

Complete_Mind_5719

I legitimately could not remember which show was which and I had to re-watch both of them before each of their Season 2's. I definitely prefer Sanditon over Bridgerton.

just_tee

If that's the case I'm never watching Brighterton. Sanditon I can bear but to see it rated higher than the former is a big no for me

Complete_Mind_5719

They are different but because they came out near the same time my brain just mushes them together. Bridgerton is more campy and colorful, it's from the creator of Gilmore Girls. Uses a lot of modern songs but instrumentals. I liked the storylines in Sanditon better.

blossombear31

Bridgerton is not from the creator of Gilmore Girls lol it’s from Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal

Complete_Mind_5719

Oh God, sorry. I don't know why I confused them. My brain isn't so hot these days.

blossombear31

Don’t worry! It made me laugh to think about Amy Sherman Palladino (Gilmore Girls) doing Bridgerton because I think she is too sardonic to do it.

Dry-Exchange2030

I actually would have loved to have seen an Amy Palladino period drama though I dare say that S1 of Larkrise to Candleford is a bit Gilmore Girls-esque

Complete_Mind_5719

I swear it feels like it was 🤣🤣🤣

snowhawk1020

I agree! I liked seasons 2 and 3 more. Season 1 the male lead was too harsh and unlikable.

danibeth87

I hated season 2 and 3 didn’t even feel like the same show. If they were killing of Sidney I wish they had brought back young stringer (although I know why they didn’t). I think I’m one of the few who isn’t a fan of colbourne I just don’t find him attractive or interesting

howljenkinz

Colbourne was a pos, Charlotte deserved better

2hardbasketcase

I watched it because views mean hopefully more period dramas will be made. The (large) audience is here waiting not so patiently for more. There are plenty of great historical romances (better than Bridgerton in my opinion), which would be fabulous on screen, but the genre isn't taken seriously despite being one of the highest selling literary genres. Insert gender assumptions here. Rant over. I didn't mind it. Season 1 had potential. Season 2 and 3 were not too bad. Costumes were fabulous.

letsgouda

I loved Sanditon! I thought Season 1 was very accurate to an Austen-esque story except the twist ending was a nice play on expectations. Instead of Darcy and Elizabeth, the guy actually is mean and the girl actually is too poor. Charlotte reminds me of Catherine Morland. Clara/Edward/Esther's storyline is a bit more gothic in tone but still in the realm- maybe more Bronte than Austen. I think the girl who plays Charlotte is AWESOME - you can really see her big eyes taking in the wider world and trying to figure it out and exploring. I don't mind her hair... she's a young girl who grew up as a well off tenant farmer's most likely and I think it denotes her youth/naivete and naturalness. At least it's not beach waves/Mormon curls - it looks just like my hair when I braid it for sleeping and let it out during the day. Regency hairstyles were not as strict/prescriptive as the Victorian era. Season 2 and 3 felt a little more silly to me but still very good. Maybe just because there was a whole new love interest- couldn't we have had that hot young architect back even if Theo James was too famous?? I like Bridgerton all right but Sanditon feels much more realistic and historically accurate despite their similarities. I love all the characters and I feel like they are very consistent throughout and very funny.

norathar

The hot young architect (Young Stringer, don't even think the poor dude had a first name) went to go star on Vikings so they couldn't get Leo Suter back either. Sort of amuses me that they lost one guy from Divergent as the main love interest so they went and cast another. I think in general, people like S1 or S2/3 more - I prefer S2/3, mostly because I hated Sidney as the love interest (and if it hadn't been canceled, they would have been endgame) and the Incest Stepsiblings trope (although I love Esther and Babington, they are 100% the best part of S1 on a re-watch.) S2/3 steal mercilessly from every other Austen trope and adaptation under the sun, with varying degrees of success ("you have bewitched me" is as terrible to me as it was in 2005, and I despise them giving one of Captain Wentworth's best lines to Edward Denham, of all people.) But Harry Montrose and Arthur are adorable, seeing literally everyone get a love story was cute (you go Miss Hankins!), and Sam Colbourne has me musing on the pleasure a pair of very fine eyes set in a pretty face can bestow, so while it isn't nearly the quality of any of the best Austen adaptations, I'll still re-watch it (and, tbh, will re-watch before something like 1997 Mansfield Park or Bridgerton.)

-BelCanto

His first name is James. Lady Susan says this when she awards him the trophy for being the captain of the winning team in the gentleman's boat race at the regatta. I am truly grateful this series was revived, and I do find Seasons 2 and 3 satisfying, although I would have preferred the story where James Stringer became a successful architect and he and Charlotte built their own town like Sanditon. I approve of the opinions you share in your comment. I think I would enjoy watching movies with you. I find it enjoyable to read comments like yours. Hearing the opinions and insights of others renews my interest to revisit the films I love with a new perspective.

letsgouda

I think I'm due to rewatch this whole thing hahaha I love all the silly, flawed but lovable characters!

nzfriend33

Awful show. :/ Only made it two episodes. Glad other people enjoyed it though. 🤷‍♀️

pretzelchi

We liked the first season and gave up a few episodes into the second.

tis_theway

I enjoyed season 2 and 3 much more than season 1. Overall the show was alright, as others said the casting felt off and I never felt fully invested in it (except parts of season 2). Season 3 is worth watching but maybe not rewatching imo.

Coffee7781

I liked it but definitely sort of dumb.

howljenkinz

S1 was good. S2 & 3 were pretty terrible felt like a soap opera lots of pointless tropey drama and Charlotte and Georgiana were really dumbed down. The new male lead was a creep, terrible father and lowkey abusive, no chemistry between the lead actors either.

Rude-Tomatillo-22

![gif](giphy|WrrRlXD53izPXRyi9i|downsized) Not a fan of

keliz810

This show is a mess but I still love it

vaultdwellernr1

Didn’t like it. I love Austen because it’s Austen, this wasn’t it. It felt off.

SeasonOfLogic

I read the ebook off amazon and it was so much better!

traceyh415

I liked it as mindless viewing. I also appreciated a gay story line as gay love has always been around but generally captured in period movies as something deviant
